Dorothy Lawson, kindergarten teacher

While Dorothy Lawson was out dining or shopping, many people would approach her and introduce themselves.

"They would say, "Mrs. Lawson, you were my kindergarten teacher,' " said her husband, Norman Lawson. "She was well-remembered. She loved kindergarten. She loved children."

Mrs. Lawson, 83, of Fort Thomas, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a retired kindergarten teacher at Ruth Moyer Elementary School in Fort Thomas, where she taught for 21 years.

"She was a superb teacher," Mr. Lawson said.

Mrs. Lawson also was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Thomas. She was the church's first female deacon.

She was a past president of the Arts and Scholarship group of Fort Thomas Women's Club and a past secretary of the Lady Volunteers of Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.

"She was a very active club woman," Mr. Lawson said. "She was a very active person in any kind of charity drive."

Mrs. Lawson and her husband also enjoyed traveling. They traveled to 50 states and more than 30 countries, Mr. Lawson said.

Mrs. Lawson, a great cook, also loved hosting dinners, her husband said.

"She was just a wonderful girl."

Other survivors include her sons, Norman W. Lawson Jr. of Frankfort and Michael S. Lawson of Dayton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Thomas Generation and Endowment Fund, 220 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Sherry Smith Ashby, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at University Medical Center in Tucson.

Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger.

Douglas L. Buckler, 72, of Burlington, died at 9:01 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired manager with Delta Air Lines and a member of the Delta Air Lines Retired Employees group.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hicks Buckler; sons, Terry L. Buckler of Hebron, Jerry Buckler of Union and Mike Buckler of Florence; daughters, Sherry Buckler of Erlanger, Carol Buckler of Burlington and Jana Smith of Walton; his mother, Irene Buckler of Florence; brothers, Russell Buckler of Orlando and Orville Buckler of Petersburg; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Audrey Carty, 64, of Covington, died at 12:03 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a receptionist at the hospital.

Survivors include a son, Ronald R. Eubanks of Bromley; daughters, Melonie Faller of Covington and Laura Hamby of Independence; and a brother, Herman Faulconer Jr. of Erlanger; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation began there at 11 a.m. today. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Norma Elizabeth Chapman, 74, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Pendleton County.

Survivors include a son, Robert Chapman of Florence; a daughter, Paula Dunaway of Falmouth; sisters, Georgia Bonar and Martha Butcher, both of Falmouth; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to the Jennifer Butcher Scholarship Fund, in care of Pendleton County High School, Highway 27, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Mary Chipps, 67, of Edgewood, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Mary Craddock, 67, of Demossville, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown.

Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.

Joan A. Day, 60, of Fort Myers, Fla., died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Carlos Day; and sons, Tony Day of Jamestown, Ohio, Patrick Day of Fort Myers and Michael Day of Naples, Fla.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

William H. Dettor Sr., 85, of Covington, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired maintenance worker with Union Central Life Co., Cincinnati, a security guard with Shriners Burns Institute in Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Dettor was a member of First United Methodist Church in Covington; Golden Rule Lodge No. 345 F&AM Indra Consistory Scottish Rite; Latonia American Legion Post No. 203; Pohlmann- Linnemann VFW Post No. 1484 on Park Hills; Latonia Senior Citizen Share and Care; and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a past patron of Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star; a past watchman of Shepherds White Shrine of Jerusalem Council No. 10; a past associate grand guardian of the Kentucky Job's Daughters; and a past royal patron of the Order of Amaranth.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn H. Edwards Dettor; a son, William H. Dettor of Erlanger; a daughter, Joyce Baker of Covington; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at First United Methodist Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Betty Rose Groger, 62, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Richard C. Groger of Elsmere; daughters, Deborah Eaton of Elsmere and Karen Gentry of Sparta; a son, Richard W. Groger of Elsmere; sisters, Dottie Aylor and Judy Harper, both of Florence, and Annie Shinkle of Burlington; brothers, Harvey Kimmich of Hebron and John Kimmich of Louisville; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

James Charlie Grubbs, 77, of Dry Ridge, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at his home of cancer. He was a retired valve assemblyman with William Powell Valve Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Elliston Baptist Church, Grant County. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Disabled American Veterans and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Hutton Grubbs; sons, James S. Grubbs of Walton, Buford Grubbs and Anthony L. Grubbs, both of Dry Ridge; daughters, Debra Webster and Jo Ann Grubbs, both of Dry Ridge, and Karen Murphy of Crittenden; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Elliston Baptist Church, Williamstown, Ky. 41097; or the charity of the donor's choice.

Francis Elzworth "Lee-Lebus" Linville, 66, of Maysville, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired farmer, a member of Kentontown Christian Church, and an Army veteran of the Korean War. A daughter, Beverly Gene Linville, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Cunningham Linville; sons, Arthur Linville of Flemingsburg and James Linville of Maysville; daughters, Brenda Reed, Janetta Mitchell and Carrie Powell, all of Maysville; a brother, Charles Linville of Highland Heights; sisters, Sara Mastin of Mount Olivet and Anna French of Tollesboro; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Edward Losey, 67, of Elsmere, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Emma Grace Robinson, 78, of Florence, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center, Burlington. She was a receptionist with the David J. Joseph Co. scrap steel business and a member of Beaver Lick Baptist Church, Union.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Robinson; a son, Robert G. Robinson of Englewood, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042; or Beaver Lick Baptist Church, 11460 Highway 42, Union, Ky. 41091.

Charles H. Ronnebaum, 77, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.

He was an engineer with Rusk Heating and Air Conditioning Co., Covington.

His wife, Adeline C. Grimm Ronnebaum, died in 1985.

Survivors include daughters, Virginia C. Knipper of Edgewood, Margaret S. Lacey of Cincinnati, and Norma J. Burgan, Mary Ann Baker, Diane L. Ronnebaum, Anita I. Cundiff and Linda R. Ronnebaum, all of Covington; sons, Robert C. Ronnebaum of Hazard and Paul H. Ronnebaum of Cincinnati; 32 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Robert Ray Thomas, 77, of New Liberty, died Tuesday at University Medical Center, Lexington.

He was a deacon at New Liberty Second Baptist Church and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Livers Thomas; a son, Bobby Glen Thomas of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Geraldine Sanders of Owenton, Diane Thomas of Cincinnati and Albertine Lillard of Frankfort; a brother, Leroy "Snookie" Thomas of New Liberty; a sister, Mary Kay Carter of Hamilton, Ohio; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Liberty Second Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to New Liberty Second Baptist Church, New Liberty, Ky. 40355.

Steve Tunning, 70, of Florence, died at 3 a.m. today at his home. Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger.
