Richard Ping, loved family, woodworking
Richard Eugene Ping was a quiet man who enjoyed woodworking and being with his family.
Mr. Ping grew up in Somerset but spent most of his later years in Northern Kentucky.
He built everything from cabinets to homes, said a brother, John "Jack" Ping of Somerset.
"He was a good person. He was soft-spoken and a good father," Mr. Ping said of his brother.
Mr. Ping, 73, of Cold Spring, died Monday at his home after an extended illness.
He was a retired assembler with General Electric, a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ping enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball and also rooted for the Cincinnati Reds.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, his brother said.
"He was a hard-working fella," Jack Ping said.
Other survivors include his wife, Wanda Howard Ping; sons, Richard A. Ping of Alexandria, Dennis Ping of Union, Gary Ping of Cold Spring and Jeffrey Ping of Union; daughters, Marsha Hennesey of Pembroke Pine, Fla., Donna Oldendick of Florence, Connie Polley of Fort Thomas and Cindy Cady of Alexandria; brothers, Joseph Ping, William Ping and Forrest Ping, all of Somerset, and Ray Ping of New Bedford, Mass.; sisters, Netha Bloemer of Leesburg, Fla., Ruth Tulley of Cold Spring and Cecilia Maxey of Covington; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buena Vista Baptist Church.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pulaski Funeral Home, Somerset.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post No. 38.
Morgan Paige Bays, the daughter of Larry and Pamela Stacy Bays of Fort Mitchell, was stillborn at 10:28 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Other survivors include a brother, Zachary Bays, at home; grandparents, Ron and Jan Stacy of Fort Mitchell, Larry Bays of Union and Linda Bays of Walton; and great-grandparents, John and Myrtle Bays of Burlington.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.
Paul Gerde, 68, of Covington, died at 9:45 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington.
Minnie B. Jones, 87, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was an employee of Dixie Dry Goods.
Her husband, Orville Jones, died in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Orville Jones Jr. of Burlington; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Ann O. Kendrick, 82, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Louis Kendrick, died in 1974.
Survivors include a son, Mike Kendrick of Erlanger; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Mrs. Kendrick donated her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Nora J. Newman, 94, of Fort Thomas, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday at Carmel Manor nursing home in Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, William Newman, died in 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hanneken of Villa Hills; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was this morning at Carmel Manor.
Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Clara Oberhelman, 89, of Florence, died Sunday at Woodspoint Geriatric Center in Florence.
She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Community Church of the Nazarene.
Her husband, William C. Oberhelman, died in 1977.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Oberhelman of Florence; a daughter, Diane Rich of Walton; sisters, Pearl Coger and Ruth Rohe, both of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Burial was in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati.
