Glenda L. Riley, 64, urged loving beauty, living life

Just before Glenda L. Riley of Dayton died, she had these words for her family:

"Take the time to enjoy all the beauty of the world and all it has to offer," she wrote in a diary. "Look at the beauty of a rainbow after the storm, the songs from the birds and the sweet fragrance from the flowers.

"Life is great. Just love it and live it."

Mrs. Riley was a musician, writer and artist. But she said her greatest accomplishment was raising 11 children with her husband, John E. Riley Sr.

"I ask that my family hold on to the memories and to love each other," she wrote.

Mrs. Riley died Wednesday evening at the Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was 64 years old.

Mrs. Riley was a homemaker and a member of the Relief Society at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lakeside Park.

She attended regularly until her health failed, but her faith never faltered.

"I don't believe in death," she wrote in her diary. I'm not going anywhere. It's just that this old body has become an awful place for my spirit to dwell."

Mrs. Riley played the violin and the piano. She enjoyed painting, drawing and creative writing. She penned poetry and short stories.

Mrs. Riley was interested in genealogy and traced her family roots to Germany, Ireland and England.

She had discovered she was a fourth cousin to Edgar Allen Poe and was a distant niece of Confederate Gen. Robert E Lee.

Besides her husband, survivors include sons, Jeffrey A. Wright of Taylor Mill, Phillip E. Wright of Verona, George Riley of Bellevue, and John Riley Jr. and Ron Riley, both of Dayton; daughters, Joy Elaine Robinson, Regina Fenton and Kathleen Walton, all of Dayton, Judith L. Schmidt of Independence, Maureen E. Haynes of London and Teresa Copley of North Little Rock, Ark.; 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lakeside Park.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger, and from 10 a.m until the time of services Monday at the church.

Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery in Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Kenneth Elsworth Armstrong Sr., 54, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He worked for Jake Sweeney Pontiac, Florence.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Thompson Armstrong; sons, Sean W. Armstrong and Kenneth E. Armstrong Jr., both of Burlington; a daughter, Shelly Armstrong of Elsmere; his parents, Clyde and Laura Armstrong of Walton; brothers, Cecil W. Armstrong of Henderson and Harold T. Armstrong of Burlington; a sister, Wilma M. Elmore of Walton; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Harold "Beck" Beckham, 73, of Williamstown, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired fuel oil driver with Royce Adams Oil Co., Williamstown. He was a member of Grant Lodge No. 85 F&AM, Williamstown; Williamstown Order of the Eastern Star No. 301; and Williamstown Christian Church.

His wife, Helen Eibeck Beckham, died in 1997.

Survivors include sons, Teddy Beckham of Williamstown and Tony Beckham of Nicholasville; daughters, Tammy Beckham of Williamstown and Tina Salyers of Fort Riley, Kan.; his mother, Toy Wright Beckham of Williamstown; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014, or Williamstown Christian Church, 318 N. Main St., Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Wanetta Clause, 76, of Burlington, died at 5:35 p.m. Friday at her residence.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Judy Gambert, 71, of Sherrill, N.Y., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at her residence. Her husband, Wilbert C. Gambert, died in 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Vicki L. Busch of Sherrill, N.Y.; and a brother, William T. Parker of Burleson, Texas.

Memorial services and burial will be at a later date in Louisville. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.

Malecki Funeral Home, Sherrill, N.Y., is handling arrangements.

Marcella Marie Glenn, 89, of Bellevue, died at 6:05 a.m. Friday at her residence.

She was a retired kitchen aide for Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.

Her husband, Bernard J. Glenn, died in 1964.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcella M. Glenn of Bellevue; a brother, Bernard Christen of Bellevue; and sisters, Margaret Yetter of Fort Thomas and Dorothy Christen of Dayton.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Louise Halvorson, 66, of Fort Mitchell, died at 8:41 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Stanley W. Loger, 71, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

He was a retired truck driver and a shuttle bus driver at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

He was a Navy veteran and a member of Sherman Baptist Church, Grant County.

Survivors include sons, Tom Loger of Paullina, Iowa, William Loger of Spencer, Iowa, and Mark Loger of Omaha, Neb.; daughters, Pam Loats of Wisconsin and Tonya Anderson of Alta, Iowa; a sister, Lois Engle of Newell, Iowa; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Jeanette Rigg Pierce, 75, of Falmouth, died Thursday at her home.

She was a retired teacher for Pendleton County schools and a member of Morgan Christian Church, Pendleton County.

Her husband, Samuel E. Pierce, died in June.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Evelyn White of Cincinnati; a son, Edwin D. Pierce of Frisco, Texas; sisters, Jerry Wyatt of Morgan, Norine McNeil of Manchester, Ohio, Brenda Adams of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Glenda Higdon of Daytona, Fla.; one grandchild and two step- grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Morgan Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Morgan Christian Church, Route 2, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Lucy M. Reeder, 76, of Louisville, formerly of Covington, died at 10:12 p.m. Monday at Vencor Hospital, Louisville.

She was a homemaker.

Services will be at noon Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Lillie B. Richardson, 80, of Bellevue, died at 2 p.m. Thursday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati.

She was a retired nurse's aide for Spears Hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dayton, where she was also a former Sunday school teacher.

Her husband, Samuel R. Richardson, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons, Samuel R. Richardson Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., Howard Richardson of Cold Spring, Kenneth A. Richardson of Dayton and William P. Richardson of North Fort Myers, Fla.; daughters, Ruth A. Richardson of Bellevue, Mary L. Bryson of Fort Thomas and Janet F. Sanzenbacker of Bellevue; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Dayton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Dayton, 501 Dayton Ave., Dayton, Ky. 41074.

Donald Madison Roberts Sr., 36, of Crestview Hills, died at 9 a.m. Thursday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

He was a laborer for various factories in Greater Cincinnati.

Survivors include sons, Donald M. Roberts Jr. and Robert Roberts, both of Covington; daughters, Tamara Roberts and Jessica Roberts, both of Covington; a sister, Deborah Wright of Erlanger; a stepbrother, Robert Morrison of Gallatin County; a grandmother, Thelma Roberts of Covington; and his fiancee, Dianne Ricken of Crestview Hills.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Vance Tomlinson, 85, of Depauw, Ind., formerly of Williamstown, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Indian Creek Health and Rehab Center, Corydon, Ind.

He was a retired employee for Irby Construction Co., Jackson, Miss., and an Army veteran of World War II.

His wife, Dorothy Hensley Tomlinson, died in 1996. A son, Edgar Lee Tomlinson, died in 1968. Survivors include sons, Pete Tomlinson of Port Allen, La., and Robert Tomlinson of Mauckport, Ind.; a brother, Jack Tomlinson of Barstow, Calif.; and a sister, Ophelia Cothern of Holly Springs, Miss.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.
