Joseph Early, father, former council member
Joseph Early was a retired electrician, a dedicated father and husband and a former Dayton City Council member.
Mr. Early, 68, died Thursday at his home in Dayton.
Besides tending to his own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Mr. Early volunteered to help with youth events and had served as president of the Dayton Park Board.
"He always took a special interest in the parks because of the children," said a daughter, Peggy Sparks of Dayton.
Each year he lent his electrical expertise to wire the sound for Music Fest, a youth sports league fund-raiser in Dayton.
Mr. Early also directed a drum and bugle corps called the Little Bucs and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 212, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include his wife, Emma Early; a son, Terrell Renaker of Taylor Mill; daughters, Sharon Murphy and Kathy McIntyre of Dayton; sisters, Dorothy Ferrell of Boca Raton, Fla., Mary Jo Ferrell of Dayton, Monica Hoff of West Chester, Ohio, and Margaret Byrum of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Thomas Early of Boca Raton, Fla.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Bernard Church, Dayton.

Roy B. Atha, 68, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.
Bernice Caudill, 74, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sisters, Doris Watts and Maxine Kelly, both of Alexandria, and Rudell Dunigan of Waterford, Mich.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home, with visitation from 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Gladys M. Lindeman, 94, of Newport, died Thursday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Elsmere Baptist Church and the Daughters of America Kenton Council No. 9.
Her husband, Arthur J. Lindeman, died Feb. 4. Survivors include sons, Glen Lindeman of Asheville, N.C., and Larry Lindeman of Erlanger; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elsmere Baptist Church, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Velma Potts, 78, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at Green Valley Health Care Center in Carrollton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Carrollton Christian Church.
Her husband, Allen C. Potts, died in 1990. Survivors include a son, James Potts of Florence; a stepdaughter, Donna Hurt of Carrollton; sisters, Hazel Ball and Norma Coghill of Carrollton; a brother, Stanley Potts of Phoenix; nine step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Edna Marie Bender Rich, 100, of Morning View, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
James J. Scherder, 45, of Independence, died Wednesday at his home.
He was a driver with Hartwig Transit Inc., Cincinnati, and a Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Terry L. Underwood Scherder; a daughter, Mary Margaret Scherder of Independence; a son, James J. Scherder Jr. of Independence; a stepson, Richard Jewell of Warsaw; sisters, Joanne Cobble of Independence and Alberta Bays of Morning View; a brother, Robert L. Scherder of Independence.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecilia Church, Independence, with visitation from 5 to 9 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Independence.
Carmela Rose Stofle, 75, of Walton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, of injuries suffered in an auto accident.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Edward Lee Stofle, preceded her in death. Survivors include sons, Craig Russell of Taylor Mill and Frank Stofle of Walton; sisters, Rosie Menopace and Mary Jones of Uhrichsville, Ohio, Agie Marpert of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at noon Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
Hoyett Kimbrell Walling, 93, of Winchester, died Wednesday at her home.
She was a homemaker, a retired grocery-store owner and a member of Becknerville Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Stegemoller of Winchester, and seven grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Scobee Funeral Home, Winchester.
Burial was in Kennon Cemetery, Powell County.
