Geneva Meyer, devoted to kids, church
Geneva Meyer of Covington loved children. She worked at a nursery at her church and as an assistant teacher at a childhood center.
"She had a special place in her heart for little kids," said her husband, Chester C. Meyer of Covington. "She just loved doing anything she could for them to make them happy."
Mrs. Meyer, 44, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was an assistant teacher with James Biggs Early Childhood Center, and a member of East Side Church of the Nazarene, Covington. There, she was a board member, nursery director, steward and a leader of the Ladies Fellow ship.
Mrs. Meyer collected hanging baskets and enjoyed working in her flower beds.
Mr. Meyer said his wife was a strong woman.
"She was the glue that held the family together," Mr. Meyer said. "Three years ago, we lost our oldest son and she held us together through that. She was special and we will miss her."
Their son, Clayton Meyer, died in 1995.
Other survivors include a son, Mark Edward Meyer of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and brothers, Stanley Steward and Ray Steward, both of Covington, and Sammy Steward of Burlington.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at East Side Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Clayton Meyer Scholarship Fund, 800 Martins berg Road, Mt. Vernon, Ohio 43050.
Frank Backer, 85, of Covington, died at 2:53 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a retired truck driver and mechanic. His wife, Carol Backer, died June 4.
Survivors include sons, David Backer of Polk City, Iowa, and Dan Backer of Runnnells, Iowa; daughters, Barbara Zeeks of Ryland Heights and Shirley McKinney of Covington; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Des Moines, Iowa. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Norma J. Turner Coomer, 50, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a secretary with Cinergy Corp., Cincinnati, and a member of New Heart Christ Fellowship Church, Taylor Mill. She also was a Brighton Center volunteer.
Survivors include her husband, Dudley Coomer; a son, James Keith Hall of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Lisa Bramel of Newport; her father, James Turner of Newport; and a brother, James Turner of Elmwood Place, Ohio.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Myrtle "Peggy" Smith Deitmaring, 77, of Verona, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. Her husband, Roger Deitmaring, died in 1984. Services were this morning at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
Tommy Earlywine, 21, of Mt. Olivet, died Wednesday in an auto accident near Milford in Bracken County.
Survivors include his parents, Jesse Glenn and Carolyn Overbey Earlywine; a brother, Shawn Earlywine of Mt. Olivet; sisters, Dannita Fryman and Melissa Turner, both of Mt. Olivet; and grandparents, Stewart Overbey and Marie McKee, both of Mt. Olivet.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mt. Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Francis Lawless, 68, of Florence, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Donald William Robbins, 81, of Crestview Hills, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a member of Hilltoppers.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Robbins; sons, Gary Robbins of Lakeside Park, Ken Robbins of Duluth, Ga., Donald Robbins of Ft. Mitchell and Dick Robbins of Cincinnati; a daughter, Suzanne Tegge of Louisville; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
James Edward Roy, 72, of Danville, died Sunday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington.
He was a partner in Danville Wholesale Co., an administrator for McDowell Home Health Care in Danville, and a past president of the Danville Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Dale Alligood Roy; a son, Jimmy Dale Roy of Ft. Thomas; a daughter, Robyn McAfee of Danville; a sister, Emma Lou Dunn of Visalia, Calif.; six grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church, Danville. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.

Elizabeth L. Trammell, 81, of Batavia, Ohio, formerly of Latonia, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Health Care Center, Cincinnati.
She was a retired box maker, and a member of American Association of Retired Persons and Latonia Pentecostal Church. Her husband, Fred Trammell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include stepdaughters, Mary Trammell of Tampa, Fla., and Anita Foreman of Louisville; and a sister, Helen Eastern of Somerset.
Services will be at noon Friday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Everett Lee Wolfe, 82, of Augusta, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired self-employed handyman.
Survivors include a brother, Ralph Edward Wolfe of Florence; and sisters, Nora Mae Wolfe of Ft. Mitchell and Anna Margaret McKinney of Villa Hills.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Walton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.
