Glenn Edens, loved to help
Glenn Edens loved to help people.
"He was so honest, considerate and thoughtful," said his wife, Carneal Edens.
"He was always concerned about his family and others."
Mr. Edens, 84, of Walton, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a former teacher who had taught agriculture classes at Simon Kenton High School in Independence and Hebron High School. He also was a former administrator for Powell Valve Co., Cincinnati.
Mr. Edens was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Walton, and the Scottish Rite, Covington.
Mr. Edens and his wife were married
for more than 56 years.
"He was a wonderful one," Mrs. Edens said. "No one could have been a better husband."
Other survivors include a brother, Kenneth Edens of Somerville, Tenn.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Wilson County Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, Tenn.
William B. Toran, professor
William B. Toran, professor emeritus of journalism at Ohio State University, died Tuesday at the university's medical center in Columbus, Ohio. He was 81.
The Newport native retired from teaching in 1986, then returned to volunteer as the adviser to the student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
He received a master's degree from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Mr. Toran was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; three children; and four grandchildren. Services will take place Tuesday at the First Unitarian Universalist Church.
Paul B. Butts, 75, of Falmouth, died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler.
He was a retired carnival worker.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Hope McGuire of Florence.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in Turner Ridge Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Dillard L. Duvall, 72, of Owenton, died at 5:14 p.m. Thursday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton.
He was a farmer and a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.
Survivors include sisters, Grace Cook of New Albany, Ind., and Hattie L. Holder, Irma Anderson and Lois Towles, all of Glencoe, and brothers, Clinton Duvall and Marvin Duvall, both of Frankfort, Jay Duvall of Stamping Ground and Bill Duvall of Sparta.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Willis England, 88, of Latonia, died at 6:58 a.m. July 12 at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a retired mechanic for Robke Chevrolet, Covington.
His wife, Yula Sosvy England, died in 1994.
Survivors include brothers, George England of Taylor Mill and James England of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Cora Ross Hester, 73, of Dayton, died at 4:05 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
She operated a small nursing home at her residence.
Her husband, Plezant "Plez" Hester, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Margaret Verdin of Hamilton, Ohio, and Barbara Ann Simons of Dayton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Brooksville.

Wanda Fay Powell, 64, of Covington, died 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at Community Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She was a nurse's aide with St. John Nursing Home, Covington.
Survivors include sons, Tim Adams of Cincinnati and Terry Adams and Tedd Adams, both of Covington; brothers, Victor Tibbs and Lester Tibbs, both of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Eula Norman, Cynthia Chiffin and Kathy Miller, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary McAllister of Lucas, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Mary Lou Pribble, 66, of Ft. Wright, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Derenda Webb, 86, of Elsmere, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mary Franklin of Elsmere.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. James AME Church, Covington.
Survivors include a son, Edward Jerome Cunningham of Bedford, Texas; daughters, Mary Franklin of Elsmere and Norma Jean Sroufe of Cincinnati; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barnes Temple AME Church, Elsmere.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will be in Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere.
