Devoted mother Emogene Bayer, long served Fort Thomas schools and PTA
Emogene Ruth Gould Bridges Bayer, a long-time PTA president at Ruth Moyer Elementary School and secretary to the principal at Highland High School in Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
She was 79.
Mrs. Bayer had four children in the Fort Thomas school system and believed she had an obligation to actively ensure that they and others received the best education, said a daughter, Pamela Rosenbaum of Alexandria.
"She started out in PTAs and was president of the PTA every time one of us was in school," Ms. Rosenbaum said. "She just thought it was necessary. Someone had to do it."
Mrs. Bayer grew up an only child on a farm in Brown County, Ohio. In 1928, her family moved to Fort Thomas. She graduated from Highlands High School in 1937 and married

She met her second husband, Frank Bayer of Cincinnati, at the hospital. He was an accountant, hired to audit the hospital's financial records.
They married
in 1962. Mrs. Bayer moved with her husband to Cincinnati, where she lived for 30 years, until his death in 1993. She then moved to Cold Spring. In her spare time, Mrs. Bayer enjoyed doing needlepoint and reading.
"She was always optimistic, and she always had a smile on her face," her daughter said.
"That's what people loved about her."
