Dr. William Clinger, served Falmouth

From volunteering as a Boy Scout leader to running for Falmouth City Council, Dr. William Clinger never flinched when asked to give to his community.

"He was very civic-minded, and he enjoyed being around people a lot," said his wife, Doris Davis Clinger.

Dr. Clinger, 80, of Falmouth, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

A native Cincinnatian, he moved to Falmouth and was a optometrist in practice for 33 years.

He served eight years on City Council in the 1950s and 1960s and was former chairman and a 12-year member of the Pendleton County Public Library Board.

He was a past commander of American Legion Hardin-Browning Post No. 109, a Boy Scout leader and a past president of Pendleton Country Club, which he worked to found.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. A daughter, Sandra Cookendorfer, died March 31.

In his spare time, Dr. Clinger enjoyed playing tennis, going to movies and the opera and seeing shows in Cincinnati.

Other survivors include a daughter, Karen Pelfrey of Edgewood; a sister, Ellen Atkinson of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056; Trinity Baptist Church, Fifth St. and Park Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071; or Pendleton County Public Library, 228 Main St., Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Albert Gooch, 86, of Ludlow, died Sunday at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center, Jefferson County, Tenn. He was a retired baker with Latonia Bakery and a member of Ludlow Christian Church and 570th Engineering Club of the U.S. Army. His wife, Bernice Gooch, died in 1989.

Survivors include stepbrothers, Kenneth Edwards of Fairfield Glades, Tenn., and Harold Edwards of Kentucky; and a niece, Louise Ballard of Knoxville, Tenn., who took care of Mr. Gooch in his later years.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Jean Marie Hauser, 73, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:56 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Gilbert Hauser, died in 1983.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Youger of Cincinnati; sons, Gilbert Hauser of Fort Thomas, Steve Hauser of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Michael Hauser of Cincinnati; a brother, Robert Byrne of Bellevue; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Robert Eugene King, 58, of Owenton, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was retired from Phillips Driscopipe in Williamstown, and was a member of Owenton Nazarene Church.

Survivors include a son, Mark King of Waltersboro, S.C.; a brother, William "Buddy" King of Owenton; sisters, Elsie Dollar of Elwood, Ind., and Rosie Kemper of Williamstown; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Emedy L. Marcotte, 92, of Latonia, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia.

He was a retired Army master sergeant and served in World War II. He was a retired employee of the Taft Environmental Protection Center in Cincinnati. He was a member of the Elsmere VFW. He also was a 32nd degree Mason at the Masonic Lodge F&AM in Louisville.

Survivors include a daughter, Fran Vallandingham of Fort Wright; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be there from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Dee Foster McCormick, 73, of Brooksville, died Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a landscaper and a member of Powersville Christian Church, Brooksville.

Survivors include his wife, Lona Smith McCormick; daughters, Barbara Aulick, Bonnie McCormick and Brenda McCormick, all of Brooksville; sons, Johnny McCormick and David McCormick, both of Brooksville; sisters, Roberta Dryden of Columbiaville, Mich., Lena Greene of Flemingsburg and Laura Stapleton of Connersville; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Powersville Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials are suggested to Powersville Christian Church, Route 3, Brooksville, Ky. 41004; or American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Alvin Morgan, 62, of Ludlow, died at 7:26 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Survivors include sons, Mark Morgan, Gary Morgan, Rick Morgan, and Larry Morgan, all of Ludlow, Alvin Morgan and Randy Morgan, both of Connecticut, Roger Morgan, Phillip Morgan and Bobby Morgan, all of Cincinnati; daughters, Debra Morgan and Patty Morgan, both of Cincinnati, and JoAnn Morgan of Maine; brothers, Harold Morgan of Covington, Carl Morgan and Russell Morgan, both of Cincinnati, and Willy Morgan of Illinois; sisters, Millie Raines of Bellevue and Mildred Morgan of Norwood, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. C&C Mortuary Service, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Evelyn May Owens, 76, of Erlanger, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker, and a member of VFW and American Legion auxiliaries. Her husband, Leroy Owens, died in 1991.

Survivors include two nieces, Beverly Schutte and Patricia Schutte, both of Northern Kentucky.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Mausoleum Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Joseph Anthony Raniero, 84, of Southgate, died at 2:18 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired machinist with Lodge & Shipley Co., Cincinnati, and a member of United Steel Workers of America AFL-CIO Local No. 4099 in Cincinnati. He was a member of Fort Thomas Business Men's Club and St. Vincent DePaul Holy Name Society, and was a member of the Ohio Marching Military, Ola Khan Gotto and Highlandaires Senior bands.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Nyman Raniero; a daughter, Beth Yutze; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent DePaul Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Prayers will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Muriel Schulkers, 77, of Dayton, died at 4 a.m. July 20 at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a retired clerk with National Underwriters, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Anthony Church, Bellevue; Butterfield Senior Center in Cincinnati and Covington Senior Citizens. A son, Gary Schulkers, died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail Rachford of Southgate.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Church. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church, 320 Poplar St., Bellevue, Ky. 41073. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is in charge.

Susan Marie Scott, 66, of Williamstown, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Sedric Scott; daughters, Tina Dunn of Williamstown and Sandy Ryan of Verona; a son, Stephen Scott of Bowling Green; a brother, Gordon Myers of Birch Run, Mich.; sisters, Rose Marie Blakely of Fort Mitchell and Sylvia Rosenacker of Florence; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

William Straus, 73, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Highland Heights, died Friday at his home. Arrangements are pending at Alexandria Funeral Home.

Pandora Harris Thorsen, 86, of Fort Wright, died at 8:19 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice, Covington.

She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Ludlow. Her husband, James D. Thorsen Sr., died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, James D. Thorsen Jr. of Suffolk, Va.; a daughter, Winifred Ann Plimpton of Fort Wright; a brother, David Harris of Lumberton, N.C.; a sister, Myrtle Riddle of Rock Hill, S.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Acacia Cemetery, Pendleton, N.Y. Memorials are suggested to Wesley United Methodist Church, 319 Oak St., Ludlow, Ky. 41016.

Charlotte Anne McAnly Vater, 55, of Puerto Rico, formerly of Alexandria, died July 21 in Puerto Rico. She was a missionary.

Survivors include her husband, Noble David Vater; a son, Noble David Vater II of Puerto Rico; daughters, Cynthia Adamo of Parsippany, N.J., Rebecca Vater of Edison, N.J., and Sharon Vater of Edmonton, N.J.; brothers, Cloyd McAnly and Curtis McAnly, both of West Chester, Ohio; sisters, Carolyn Ingram of Texas and Cheryl Tewart of Camden, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Services were Wednesday in Puerto Rico. Burial also was in Puerto Rico. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.
