Walton cook Eva Waters, aided others
Eva Noe Waters loved to cook. And when no one was around to enjoy her tasty delicacies, she simply went out and found somebody.
"I can remember her cooking food in big military pots," said Mrs. Waters' daughter, Betty Hensley, of Walton.
"She would always take food to sick and elderly people, and a lot of times she would feed the entire neighborhood."
Mrs. Waters, 79, of Walton, died Thursday at her home. Her husband, Earl Waters, died in 1970.
Mrs. Waters used her love of cooking to extend a warm sense of benevolence to everyone she was around.
During the '70s she worked in restaurants for about 12 years and when she retired, committed herself to local charities.
"If anyone in our neighborhood was sick she would cook something up and go stay with them.
"Sometimes she would spend a week with them," her daughter said.
"I think part of the reason she liked cooking was to be around people. She was just one of the kindest people you could ever meet."
Mrs. Waters also served as a Girl Scout leader because she wanted to give guidance to young girls in the community. Mrs. Waters was a member of the Johnson-McElroy American Legion Auxiliary, the Walton Firemen's Auxiliary and was active in school organizations while her children were young.
