Emma Burleigh, 100, a "grand lady'

Emma Bertha Wittgen Burleigh, mother of William R. Burleigh, president and chief executive officer of the E.W. Scripps Co., died Saturday.

A native of Evansville, Ind., Mrs. Burleigh celebrated her 100th birthday Feb. 11 at her home in Rabbit Hash, where she resided with her son.

"She was possessed of a mind and spirit of far-ranging interests."
