Elizabeth McCleese
1921-2003
Elizabeth McGlone McCleese, 81, of South Shore, died Saturday, Nov. 15, at her home.
Mrs. McCleese was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Greenup County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert McCleese.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Burial will be in Granny Thomas cemetery in Garrison.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dies at Long Hospital
Lemuel McClurg, age 68 years and one day, a resident of this place since 1917, died Sunday morning at 9:20 o’clock at the Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis and following the amputation of his right hand several days previous. He suffered severe injuries on August 20 when an automobile driven by his son-in-law, Samuel Royce of Muncie and one driven by Henry Garner, of near New Castle, were in a collision at a crossroad west of New Castle.
Surviving him are the widow, two sons and eight daughters, Joseph McClurg, of near Rushville, Mrs. Hattie Porter of this place, Mrs. Miranda Eddington, west of here, Mrs. Mary Royce and Mrs. Malinda Hayes of Muncie, Marcus, Ethel, Bessie, Georgia and Gladys at home; one brother Abalson of Maysville, Ky.; one sister, Amanda Pell, Rushville and fourteen grandchildren.
The deceased came to this county nearly eleven years ago. He had been an industrious resident and was employed at the paper mill the greater part of this time.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Wesleyan Methodist Church of which he was a member. Rev. Walter C. Morris, pastor, was in charge, assisted by Thomas Addison. A quartet composed of Mrs. Fred McCorkle, Mrs. David Ray, Mrs. Walter Morris and Thurman Addison gave three selections and Mrs. McCorkle and Mrs. Ray sang as a duet. Burial was in the Carthage Cemetery, north of town. W. O. Moore was funeral director.

In Loving Memory--Just a word or two in memory and loving tribute to Mrs. Melvina McCormick of Triplett, Rowan County Kentucky, who passed to the spirit world January 12, 1926, at the age of 71 years.
She was sincere Christian character, always mindful of her Creator and the needs of friends at all times thankful for her blessings and with deep reverence attended worship and church duties. She leaves beside her husband William McCormick, a family of six children, Mrs. Julia Ishen of Lewis County; Mrs. Sadie Brown of Triplett, Rowan County; Jack, Zenis, Luke and Leonard, sons all living at home.
She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. W. H. Hamilton of Fitch, Mrs. Jane Sloan of Rowan County, and Mrs. A. J. Stamper of Olive Hill; four brothers, J. K. P. Enix of Missouri, J. B. Enix of Oklahoma, M. W and T. J. Enix of Green Forest, Arkansas.
She sang this song just before she went to her future home...Down at the cross where my Savior died. Down where for cleansing from sin I cried. There to my heart was the blood was applied. Glory to His name...her family and friends miss her and will not soon forget her.

Mrs. Amanda McFarland
Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Justice McFarland, 82, of Firebrick, Ky., who died Tuesday, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Firebrick Baptist church. Burial will be at Firebrick.
Mrs. McFarland was born in 1856. She was married
to Phais McFarland on Sept. 9, 1874, and 11 children were born to them. Her husband and a son Lee preceded her in death.
Surviving are these children: John of Brushart, George of Portsmouth, James of Detroit, Marshall of New Boston, Matthias of South Webster, Linville, Sanford and Mrs. Fada Logan of Firebrick, Mrs. Stella Logan of Jackson and Mrs. Lottie Logan of Wellston. She also leaves 46 grandchildren.

McFarland
Harold E. McFarland, 61, of Cocoa Fla., formerly of Portsmouth, died Sunday at Scioto Memorial Hospital.
A native of Scioto County, he was a retired employee of Empire-Detroit Steel Corp. and a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Weghorst McFarland; five daughters, Linda Sowards of Portsmouth, Rosemary Cook, Karen Redoutey and Debbie Mullins, all of Wheelersburg; a stepson, Donald Weghorst of Cocoa; two stepdaughters, Ester Downey of Portsmouth and Karin Campbell of McDermott; five brothers, Charles Brown of Mansfield, Allen McFarland of Taylor, Mich., Willard McFarland of Portsmouth, Robert McFarland of McDermott, and Marshall McFarland of Cleveland; a sister, Georgia Logan of Mansfield; six grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
Funeral service is to be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pennington-Bishop Funeral Home in New Boston, with the Rev. John Benson and the Rev. David Campbell officiating. Interment is to be in Memorial Burial Park with Military graveside rites by James Dickey Post, American Legion.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today.

McFarland
New Boston - James McFarland, 88 of 3983 Gallia St. died Sunday at Mercy Hospital.
He was a native of Greenup County, Ky., an Army veteran of World War I and attended New Boston First Church of God.
Surviving are two brothers, Linville of Canton and Sanford, 811, Findlay St. Portsmouth, a sister, Mrs. Lottie Holsinger of Sciotoville, Rt. 4 and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. William Hamilton is to conduct services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pennington Funeral Home here, with burial in Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight. The family is to receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

James McFarland, 68, night watchman
James A. McFarland, 68, of Portsmouth, a former Firebrick (Ky.) resident, died Wednesday, May 18, 1994, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Born Oct. 19, 1925, in New Boston, a son of the late Linville and Ada Daniels McFarland, he was a night watchman for the former Portsmouth Docking Company of Portsmouth.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mae Vanhoose McFarland, Oct. 12, 1980, he is survived by a stepson, Johnny Vanhoose of West Portsmouth; a brother, Clifford McFarland of Portsmouth; a sister Viola McClurg of Portsmouth; and four step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Firebrick Cemetery, with the Rev. Wilford Maddix officiating.
Friends may call at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and form 9 a.m. until the services Saturday.

Robert McFarland, 71
Robert McFarland, 71, of McDermott, died Monday, Sept. 22 1997, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Born Jan. 21, 1926, in Scioto County, a son of the late Marshall and Nancy Logan McFarland, he was a former employee of the former Empire-Detroit Steel Corporation and the village of New Boston.
Surviving are three brothers, Allen McFarland of Dearborn, Mich., Marshall McFarland of Cleveland and Willard McFarland of Portsmouth; a sister, Georgia Logan of Homestead, Fla.; and a half brother, Charles Brown of Lexington, Ky.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Harold McFarland.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pennington-Bishop Funeral Home in New Boston, with Robert Temple, minister, officiating, and interment in Memorial Burial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Chas McGaffey
Jessie Ann Haney was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, Jan. 25, 1863 and departed this life at her home in Keosauqua, Dec. 28, 1924.
She was united in marriage to Charles H. McGaffey Sept. 14, 1879, and to this union were born four children: Stanley L. of Des Moines; Minnie J. of Keosauqua, W. Craig of Omaha, Neb, ; and Nellie Mm. who is traveling in Florida and could not be located in time. She also leaves five brothers and sisters.
McGaffey united with the M. E. Church at the age of twenty. She was a member of the Rebekahs for a number of years, and an ardent church and lodge worker until late years, when failing health would not permit. She was a patient sufferer and trusted fully in god, and expressed her desire often to be at rest.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by her pastor Rev P.S. Apfel.
The family wishes to express their thanks to neighbors and friends for kindness and sympathy and beautiful floral offerings in their bereavement.

William McGraw
William E. "Bill" McGraw, 65, of Fairborn, was guided to Heaven by the angels on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, from Hospice of Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Delia Shover McGraw; two brothers, Jake and Harry; and three sisters, Josephine McGraw Blaine, Sharon McGraw, and infant McGraw.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn Coyle McGraw; son Billy and wife Tonia; daughter Kim and husband Doug Hutchinson; stepson, Billy Joe Barnes; stepdaughter, Jo Ann Cox; grandchildren, Zach and Shelby McGraw, Tyler and Ali Hutchinson; brothers, Alfred (Jackie) McGraw of Portsmouth; Lee (Frances) McGraw of Portsmouth; sisters, Mae (Frank) Burke of Sardinia, Georgie Snyder of N. C. Louella Coyle of Portsmouth, Carol Cummings of Portsmouth, Kay (Ray) Snyder of Frankfort, Brenda (Roger) Jones of Portsmouth, Connie (Harold) Bise of Wheelersburg and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bill was a faithful member and board member of the Spaulding Road Church of God. He was a graduate of East High School in Portsmouth. Bill retired from Chrysler Corporation after many years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at the Spaulding Road Church of God, 1658 Spaulding Road, Dayton. Pastor Larry Thomas officiating. Interment in Byron Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, until the time of service. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Dayton for their loving care and kindness during Bill’s illness. Services are under the direction of Tobias Funeral Home in Dayton.

Thomas M. McNeal
Greenup, July 3-Thomas M. McNeal, 76, died at 4:30 p.m., today at his home near Smith Branch. He was a veteran of the Spanish American War.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy McNeal; four children, Mrs. Florence Wooten of Rushtown, Theodore McNeal of Smith Branch, Mrs. Matilda Campbell of Portsmouth and Mrs. Covey Harris of Three Mile; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The body is at the Riggs-Sammons Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

Preceded: husband, Jack E. Meadows in 1996. Survived: brothers, Ivan Zornes, Delbert Zornes, Claude Clough and Earl Clough, sisters, Sybil Fultz, Eva Mae Fowler, Freda Fultz and Virginia Hilderbrand, several nieces and nephews.
Burial: June 20, 1998 in the Zornes Carver Cemetery, Carter City, Carter Co, KY.
