Isora Mae Townsend, loved church, garden
Isora Mae Townsend had the prettiest flowers in the neighborhood.
The Covington resident spent hours almost every day lovingly tending to her yard, which was filled with flowers of all kinds, said a son, John W. Townsend of Covington.
"Mom had a green thumb," he said. "She knew about any type of flowers.
"If I ever got in trouble with my flowers, I'd ask her and she'd know what to do. Her whole yard was just full of flowers."
Ms. Townsend, 77, died at 2:58 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
She grew up in Menifee County.
Her husband, Romulus Townsend, preceded her in death.
The couple moved to Covington so Mr. Townsend could find a job.
He worked for Avery Drilling Machine Co. while she raised five children at their Covington home.
When she wasn't tending to her children or her flowers, she enjoyed singing in the choir at East Side Church of the Nazarene in Covington.
She was a choir member for more than 18 years.
"Her church was everything to her," her son said.
"Her church and her flowers and her yard. She just loved the outdoors.
She was the type that just went and went and went."
Other survivors include another son, Jerome Townsend of Covington; daughters, Evelyn Fields of Delhi, Ohio, and Dollie Burton of Highland Heights; a sister, Minnie Powell of Maysville; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at East Side Church of the Nazarene, Covington.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Russell G. Chenot, 69, of Highland Heights, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired ink manufacturer for Inmont and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Norris Chenot; sons, Rick Chenot of Ft. Thomas, Steve Chenot of Newport, Rusty Chenot of Bellevue, Tim Chenot of Florence and Dennis Chenot of Dayton; a daughter, Debbie Bricking of Bellevue; a brother, Charles Chenot of Newport; a sister, Mary Ruff of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Sarah Rebecca Detherage, 49 days, of Brooksville, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her parents, George Kendall Detherage Jr. and Polly Ann Sharp of Brooksville; grandparents, Eddie and Penny Hedgecock and Connie Bryant, all of Brooksville, George and Beverly Detherage of Lawrenceburg and Mike Sharp of Cincinnati; and great-grandparents, Eugene and Dora Hay of Minerva, George and Eloise Detherage of Lawrenceburg, and Christine Fields and Phyllis Sharp, both of Brooksville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Velma Ballew Folden, 49, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a pipe fitter for the Procter & Gamble Company, Cincinnati.
Survivors include sons, Richard Folden Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Brian Folden of Cincinnati; daughters, Anita Folden and Rhonda Folden, both of Cincinnati; her mother, Olevia Ballew Clay of Richmond; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Concord Baptist Church, Richmond.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Richmond.
Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
John Wallace "Jack" Geaslen, 67, of Detroit, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died June 15 in Stow, Ohio, after a short battle with cancer.
He was a self-employed commercial artist in the Detroit area.
Survivors include daughters, Jeanne Martie of Kent, Ohio, Jennifer Geaslen of Brunswick, Ohio, and Julie Dayton of Washington; a son, David Dayton of Washington; sisters, Peggy Kohl of Villa Hills and Kathy Geaslen of Macon, Ga.; and three grandchildren.
Private burial services will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
The body was cremated at Akron, Ohio, Crematory.
Adams and Mason Memorial Chapel, Akron, handled arrangements.
Gertrude Schneider Lorenz, 76, of Ft. Thomas, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker, head of the Bereavement Ministry at St. Thomas Church, Ft. Thomas, a member of St. Anne Convent Associates and a volunteer at ECHO.
Her husband, Robert H. Lorenz, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Peggy Eilerman and Terri Manning, both of Ft. Thomas, Jean Listerman of Alexandria and Janet Wegert of Ft. Worth, Texas; and sons, Robert N. Lorenz and John N. Lorenz, both of Ft. Thomas, Stephen J. Lorenz of Ft. Wright, Edward J. Lorenz of Dry Ridge, David A. Lorenz of Bowie, Md., and Jerome J. Lorenz of Tavernier, Fla., a sister, Sister Mary Noelita, SND, of Park Hills; and 30 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church, Ft. Thomas.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, with prayers there at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.
