Charles "Dutch' Millbaugh, carpenter
Charles H. "Dutch" Millbaugh helped sculpt the local skyline.
The Independence carpenter helped build Riverfront Stadium (now Cinergy Field), the Brent Spence Bridge, the Procter & Gamble building and the W.C. Beckjord power plant in New Richmond, Ohio.
"He liked being outdoors and he was a hard worker," said a daughter, Ethel Messer of Union.
"He came from a hard-working German family, and he was talented at it. He didn't have but a fourth-grade education, but he could read a blueprint as good as anybody else."
Mr. Millbaugh died Monday night at the Florence Park Care Center. He was 85 years old.
Mr. Millbaugh was born and reared in Woodsfield, Ohio.
He was noted for the private homes he helped build in Northern Kentucky.
"He did the plumbing and the concrete - he could do everything," said Mrs. Messer.
After he joined Cincinnati Carpenter Union Local No. 2., Mr. Millbaugh helped build local landmarks. He retired about 30 years ago, then managed Edroy Court Apartments in Cincinnati. He was a member of the Independence Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting deer.
"He liked horses," Mrs. Messer said. "He wasn't a betting man, but he loved a good horse race and a beautiful horse.
"He was very outgoing and friendly. He always made people feel good about themselves."
Mr. Millbaugh's wife, Martha Stadig Millbaugh, died in 1984.
Other survivors include sons Charles E. Millbaugh of Independence and David Millbaugh of Mishawaka, Ind.; a daughter, Vickie Barnes of Wilder; a stepdaughter, Margaret King of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home in Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery in Taylor Mill.
Madie Yetta Toby Bailey, 69, of Covington, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Marge Goodhew of Yakima, Wash., and Rita Nichols of Baltimore; a brother, David Toby of Cincinnati; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Jim T. Carr, 70, of Covington, died at 12:20 p.m. Monday at his home. He was a former glass installer with A&A; Auto Glass Co., Cincinnati; an associate pastor of Free Pentecostal Church, Covington; and a member of American Legion Post No. 57 in Old Orchard, Maine. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Combs Carr; a son, Sam Carr of Covington; sisters, Henrietta Burke of Cincinnati and Geraldine Morhard of Philadelphia; brothers, John Carr of Falmouth, Paul Carr of Anaheim, Calif., and David Carr of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.
Mary V. Clifton, 82, of Covington, died Monday at her home. She was a retired seamstress. A daughter, Martha Nelson, died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Bess Vance of Marco Island, Fla.; brothers, M. A. Palmer and Frank Palmer, both of Benoit, Miss., and Clifton Palmer of Cleveland, Miss.; sisters, Claudia Clifton and Ruby Jennings, both of Benoit, Miss., Vera Barlow of Jackson, Miss., and Kate Filer of Louisville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.
James T. Crowder, 69, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
William Jackson Fryman, 90, of Germantown, died Tuesday at Maysville Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer and a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Germantown. His wife, Emma Colyer Fryman, died in 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Young of Germantown; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
Martha Helphinstine, 66, of Harrison, Ohio, formerly of Bellevue, died Tuesday at her daughter's home in Harrison, Ohio. She was a homemaker and a grocery clerk with B&R; Carryout, Cincinnati, and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrison.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Rimroth of Harrison, Ohio; sons, Ralph Trump and John Trump, both of Cincinnati; a sister, Donna M. Telles of Cincinnati; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Scot Hutchinson, 40, of Covington, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home after an extended illness. He was a clerk with the Internal Revenue Service.
Survivors include his parents, Marvin and LaVeren Hutchinson of Crescent Springs; and a brother, Neal Hutchinson of Ft. Thomas.

Dave Jones, 37, of Covington, died at 3:54 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a construction worker.
Survivors include his parents, Lawrence Jones of Covington and Faye Smith of Dayton; a daughter, Felicia Jones of Crescent Springs; brothers, Ron Jones of Cincinnati, Jim Jones of Dayton, Lawrence Bradford and Joseph Jones, both of Covington; and sisters, Laura Jones of Dayton, Ohio, Joy Dreyling, Diane Sietz, Stephanie Jones, Shannon Jones and Sara Jones, all of Cincinnati.

Steve Klug, 44, of Park Hills, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday at his home. He was a self-employed electrician and a member of Covington Turners.
Survivors include a son, Andrew Klug of Cincinnati; his mother, Irene Finke Klug of Park Hills; sisters, Janet Blank of Perry Park, Nancy Deglow of Boone County, Karen Riegler of Union and Cindy Hieneke of Alexandria; brothers, Ronald Klug of Cincinnati, Jerald Klug and Timothy Klug, both of Independence, and Ken Klug of Ludlow.

Doris Ann Knight, 68, of Florence, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Elsmere Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Brink of Greenwich, Conn., and Debbie Carnes of Florence; and one grandchild.

Robert W. Mann Sr., 78, of Mt. Olivet, died Monday at his home. He was a retired farmer and a member of Piqua Christian Church, where he was a former deacon and elder. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include sons, Robert W. Mann Jr. of Mt. Olivet, Matthew Mann of Lexington and Mark Mann of Henderson; daughters, Susan Caldwell of Lexington, Jeanne Ellis of Mt. Olivet, Lisa Lemons of Versailles, Patty Sims of Morehead and Heidi R. Mann of Lexington; sisters, Alice Miller and Bessalee Robinson, both of Robertson County; and nine grandchildren.

George E. Miller, 60, of Owenton, died at Sunday at his home. He was a retired custodian from the Owen County Courthouse.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Dunn Miller; a daughter, Jennifer L. Miller of Owenton; sons, George A. Miller and Johnny Miller, both of Owenton; his father, George A. "Whitey" Miller of Ft. Mitchell; sisters, Shirley Hartfiel of Crescent Springs, Carol Ann Schaefer of Edgewood and Donna Lee Bruener of Foster; brothers, Jerry Miller of Scott County and Jakey Miller; and four grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Rogers Funeral Home, Owenton. Burial was in Corinth Cemetery.
Peter Martin Mitchell, 73, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired salesman with Quality Security, Florence, a member of American Legion Post No. 11 in Newport, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Darlea "Dee" Bolton Mitchell; daughters, Cindy Janszen of Cincinnati, Debra Johnson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Peggy Hale of West Chester, Ohio; brothers, Patrick Mitchell of Cincinnati, Eddie Mitchell of Rockfort County Mayo, Ireland, and Johnny Mitchell of North Wales; sisters, Kathlene Reuter and Rose Dolan, both of Cincinnati, and Margaret McDermott of Knock, Ireland; and four grandchildren.

Kermit Ross, 64, of Cincinnati, formerly of Newport, was found dead at his home Saturday. He was a retired postal clerk.
Survivors include four daughters; brothers, Lawrence and Edwin Ross, both of Cincinnati; and sisters, Earlene Ross of Cincinnati and Mildred Kemp of Newport.

Alvin Keith Wilson, 32, of Newport, died at 11:10 p.m Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a graphic arts printer. Survivors include a sister, Sonja Langer of Bellevue; and a brother, Byron Wilson of Cincinnati.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Cremation will be at Cincinnati Cremation Co.
