Dr. William J. Temple, innovator

Dr. William J. Temple will be remembered at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South as an innovator and pioneer.

"He began the family practice residency program. It was the first building on the south campus," said Dr. Richard Allnutt, who also was involved with the program.

Dr. Temple, 80, of Ft. Wright, died early Sunday at St. Charles Care Center, Ft. Wright.

A pediatrician on the staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Dr. Temple retired from active practice about 14 years ago, Dr. Allnutt said.

"He was a dedicated, wonderful pediatrician. He was loved by his patients," Dr. Allnutt said.

Dr. Temple began the pediatrics internship program at St. Elizabeth, and it later evolved into the family practice residency program.

Dr. Temple's wife, Hilda Pratt Temple, said he had an interest in medicine from his early years. He was an Army doctor in World War II.

Dr. Temple's unit entered Dachau concentration camp shortly after it was liberated, Mrs. Temple said.

Dr. Temple like to hunt and fish and to play golf at Ft. Mitchell Country Club, where he was a former member.

Dr. Temple was a member of the American Medical Association; American Academy of Pediatrics; AOA honorary medical fraternity, and the Phi Chi medical fraternity.

Besides his wife, other survivors include a sister, Mary Robinson of Lafayette, La.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; or St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Ft. Wright, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Roger Joseph Bowlin, 35, of Petersburg, died Thursday of a single gunshot to his chest. Two men forced their way into the trailer where he lived and shot him during a confrontation, Boone County police said.

Bowlin was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include sons, Joe Bowlin of Glencoe and Justin Bowlin of Taylor Mill; his mother, Laura Hunt of Crescent Springs; sisters, Cindi Lyons of Erlanger, Tracy Hill of Beechgrove, Ind., Kim Esposito of Latonia and Pamela Bowlin of Richmond, Ind.; brothers, Mike Bowlin of Indianapolis and Rick Bowlin of Florence; his grandmother, Ophelia Josephine Chapman of Walton; and one grandchild.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Hilda Schuetz Conrad, 94, of Newport, died Saturday at her home. She was a retired caregiver, having served for many years as a nursing assistant in Cincinnati. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church, Newport, where she was a member of the Altar Society and St. Cecilia-St. John Society. Her husband, Wilbur Conrad, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Schuetz Chandler of Covington.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Falmouth. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery, Falmouth.

Kathryn Binder Gilvin, 74, of Altamonte Springs, Fla., formerly of Independence, died Friday at her home. She was a bookkeeper and office manager for Gilvin's Service Center in Altamonte Springs.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond W. Gilvin; a son, David R. Gilvin of Altamonte Springs; daughters, Janet G. Bilz of Independence and Debbie K. Stephens of Altamonte Springs; a sister, Jean Cooper of Williamstown; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Comforter, 595 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Fla. 32714.

James Green, 79, of Owenton, died Friday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton.

Survivors include a sister, Edith Ellis of Beechwood; and brothers, Kirby T. Green of Owenton and Noah Green of Georgetown.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery.

Mary Margaret Hoffer, 88, of Ft. Wright, died Saturday at St. Charles Care Center in Ft. Wright.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Ft. Wright, Ky. 41011.

Edward "Jack" Hunter, 82, of Corinth, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a retired farmer, an employee of Georgetown Cable Co. and a member of Lusby Mill Baptist Church, Corinth.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel Pauline Hunter; sons, Sammie Lee Hunter of Jonesboro, Ga., Edward Hunter Jr. of New Columbus, Douglas T. Hunter of Jonesville and Roger Dale Hunter of Owenton; brothers, J. B. Hunter and Garland Ray Hunter, both of Jonesboro, Ga., and Richard Hunter of Lexington; sisters, Loretta Epperson of Corinth, Mildred Bond and Dorothy Rose, both of Lexington, and Lena Wickham of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Corinth.

Karama Callahan Hurley, 83, of Ft. Mitchell, died at 6 p.m. Saturday at her home. She was a self-employed hairdresser and sold herbs and natural products from her home. Her husband, Joseph Hurley, died in 1993.

Survivors include a sister, Ruby Newman of Bainbridge, Tenn.

Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, West Covington. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Hazel Mae Klaas, 87, of Alexandria, died Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was an inspector with McGregor Sports, Cincinnati, and a member of First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Her husband, Sylvester Klaas, died in 1993.

Survivors include sons, Paul Klaas of Melbourne and Donald Klaas of Mason, Ohio; daughters, Barbara Zeis of Alexandria and Frances Afflerbach of Summerfield, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 104 Washington St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.

Wilma Pfanstiel Lunsford, 82, of Walton, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospital Grant County, Williamstown. She was a homemaker and attended Goshen Christian Church in Piner.

Survivors include her husband, Basil Lunsford; daughters, Linda Gadd of Walton and Donna Courtney of Crittenden; a son, Wayne Lunsford of Morning View; a sister, Eva Gillespie of Vero Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Cleveland W. "Tennie" Lynn, 83, of Owenton, died Saturday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. He was a retired farmer and a member of Owenton First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Nix Lynn; a son, Jim Lynn of Owenton; a daughter, Pat Beverly of Owenton; sisters, Mayme Kelley and Mildred Lynn, both of Owenton; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church Organ Fund, North Main Street, Owenton, Ky. 40359.

Mary Alice Mitts, 82, of Louisville, formerly of Owen County, died Saturday at Caritas Medical Center in Louisville. She was a retired nurse and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Owenton.

Survivors include daughters, Nellie Towles of Louisville and Judy Langenbach of Cincinnati; sisters, Mabel Trinkle of Crittenden, Loretta West of Spring Lake, N.C., and Mildred Heib of California; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Ft. Wright, Ky. 41011.

Charles E. Myers Jr., 56, of Latonia, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a sales representative with L&N; Railroad, a member of Latonia Social Club and an Army veteran.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Myers of Gainesville, Ga.; a daughter, Michelle Duncan of Tampa, Fla.; his mother, Wanda Lee Myers of Latonia; a brother, Robert Myers of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Dixie Copenhaver of Green Township, Ohio; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to local American Legion posts.

Monica Fausz Nelson, 83, of Latonia, died at 7:20 a.m. Saturday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a homemaker. Her first husband, William Fausz, died in 1959. Her second husband, Kenneth Nelson, died in 1973. A son, Melvin Fausz, died in 1948.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Fausz of Edgewood; a brother, Gordon Cartwright of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Valanda Dumas of Wilton, Calif.; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Rosedale Manor Activity Fund, 4250 Glenn Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015.

Mildred Robinson, 70, of Southgate, died at 8 a.m. Saturday at her home. She was a homemaker. A brother, Hershell Kerr, died in March.

Survivors include her husband, Everett Robinson; a son, Scott Robinson of Independence; daughters, Karen O'Connor of Ft. Thomas and Sandy Riedinger of Cold Spring; a brother, Raymond Kerr of Independence; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Irene Hitt Rudy, 83, of Flemingsburg, formerly of Slip Up in Mason County, died at 1:35 p.m. Sunday at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Mays Lick. A son, Raymond "Tommy" Rudy, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Joe Rudy of Prestonsburg and Ronny Rudy of Mays Lick; daughters, Pamela Gullett of Prestonsburg and Patti Getz of Ewing; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.

Dorotha A. Ruf, 78, of Covington, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. She was an inspector for General Electric, Cincinnati, and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Covington.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Ruf; daughters, Linda Stahl and Shelia Steuart, both of Covington, and Judith Sizemore of Olathe, Kan.; a brother, Kermit Adkins of Hamlin, W.Va.; sisters, Emeline Kretching of Phoenix and Flawn Fletcher of East Liverpool, Ohio; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, and at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
