Former Pendleton English teacher Sandra Cookendorfer, devoted mom

Sandra Clinger Cookendorfer spent a decade teaching English at Pendleton County High School, then later dedicated her energies to raising children.

Mrs. Cookendorfer, 54, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at her parents' residence.

She taught high school English from 1968 to 1978 before retiring.

"She was a very quiet, private person," said her mother, Doris Clinger. "The family was her main interest."

Mrs. Cookendorfer enjoyed traveling, reading and listening to music.

She was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Wade Cookendorfer of Alexandria; a daughter, Suzanne Holland of Alexandria; her parents, Dr. William and Mrs. Clinger of Falmouth; a sister, Karen Pelfrey of Edgewood; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056; or American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Anna E. Barhorst, 98, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Monday at Hillebrand Nursing Center, Cheviot, Ohio.

Her husband, Edward Barhorst, and a daughter, Ethel Gutting, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Walter Barhorst of Cincinnati; daughters, Jean Kessler and Marilyn Michels, both of Cincinnati; 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Cincinnati.

Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Harry Meyer and Geiser Funeral Home, Cincinnati.

Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to Our Daily Bread, P. O. Box 14862, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250.

Mary G. Benedict, 89, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

She was retired from the Cincinnati Auto Seat Cover Co. Her husband, Clay Thomas Benedict, died in 1989.

Survivors include a nephew, Chester Mutters of Florence; a niece, Shirley Zimmerman of Florence; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Bruce William Courtney, 54, of Falmouth, died Monday at his residence.

He was retired from Dravo Lime and was an Army veteran.

He was a member of Trinity Southern Baptist Church, Falmouth, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include daughters, Alicia Moore, Vonetta Courtney and Wendy Covert, all of Falmouth; sisters, Geneva Hutchison, Elizabeth Alma Hamilton, Joyce Lowrey, Donna Lonaker and Barbara Cannon, all of Falmouth; brothers, Willard Courtney and Joe Courtney, both of Falmouth, and Ricky Courtney of Danville; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to Hardin-Browning VFW Post No. 109, Montjoy Street, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Melvin Dennie, 76, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Mike Duff, 50, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.

He worked for the Cynthiana Sanitation Department.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Fogle Duff; sons, Michael Duff of Cynthiana and Mike William Duff of Paris; a daughter, Michelle Duff of Cynthiana; brothers, Billy Dean Duff, Elvis Duff and Cooley Duff, all of Texas, Benny Duff and Lester Duff, both of Hazard, and Dora Jean Duff; and sisters, Betty Sue Duff of Hazard, Lillie Bell Duff and Della May Duff, both of Texas, and Hester James of Middletown, Ohio.

Services will be at 2 p.m Thursday at Engles-Perry County Chapel, Hazard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, and from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Engles-Perry County Chapel, Hazard.

Burial will be in Duff Family Cemetery, Hazard.

Merwin Grayson, 84, of Ft. Mitchell, died at 12:04 a.m. today at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Winston Earl Hamilton, 56, of Cincinnati, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at Gardenview Nursing Home, Cincinnati.

He was a disabled heavy-equipment operator and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include sons, Kenneth Hamilton and Robert Hamilton; a daughter, Michelle Hamilton of Phoenix; his father, Everett Hamilton, Jr. of Falmouth; a brother, Ralph Eddie Hamilton of Southgate; and two half-brothers, Dale Wayne Hamilton and Robert Lee Hamilton, both of Covington.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Ellene Johnson, 36, of Covington, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Garrard Street Health Care Center, Covington.

Survivors include her mother, Laura Matney of Frankfort; sisters, Mary Cook, Elizabeth Matney and Betty Wideman, all of Frankfort; and brothers, Donald McFarland of Union City, Tenn., and Charles Matney of Frankfort.

Graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.

Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Gregory Daute Austin Reese, 1 month, 24 days, of Elsmere, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Survivors include his mother, Denise Reese of Elsmere; sisters, Brez-Ann Reese and Shahana Reese, both at home; and his grandmother, Verna Fenhoff of Newport.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Charles Robert "Bob" Williamson, 80, of Sanders, died Monday at his residence from injuries sustained in a tractor accident on Monday. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Williamson; daughters, Ann McDonald and Debora Cullion, both of Sanders; a son, David Williamson of Sanders; brothers, James Williamson of Tacoma, Wash., and Paul Williamson of Warsaw; sisters, Hallie Ervin and Catherine Adams, both of Warsaw; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carlton-Lowder Fu neral Home, Warsaw.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Gallatin County Life Squad, c/o Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Main Street, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Joseph Witt, 71, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
