Portsmouth Times, Thursday, Sept. 23, 1971
Burt Shover
Services for Burt Shover, 70, a former Portsmouth resident who died Tuesday in Springfield were to be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Pine Grove Church in Lucasville.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Logan of New Boston, Mrs. Belia McGraw of Portsmouth and Mrs. Edith Bower of Detroit Mich.; his stepmother Mrs. Julia Shover of Portsmouth and a brother, Earnest Shover of Portsmouth.
Services were directed by Littleton Funeral Home of Spingfield, assisted by McKinley Funeral Home. Burial was in Hager Cemetery.

Portsmouth Times, Monday, May 20, 1945
Edward Martin Shover
Death at 7:30 a.m. Sunday claimed Edward Martin Shover of Friendship. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Grooms with whom he had been living the last two months. Mrs. Shover had been seriously ill since Christmas.
A retired Wheeling Steel Corp. employe, he was retired 12 years ago because of illness. He was a stationary fireman at Portsmouth works.
Mrs. Shover was born March 3, 1888, in Greenup co., a son of Benjamin Franklin and Francis Ellen Davis Shover. He moved with his parents to Friendship at the age of 2 and lived there since with the exception of 13 years when he resided in New Boston.
On May 9, 1909, he was married to Julia Evva Cannaday, who preceded him in Death Aug, 26, 1928.
Surviving are seven children: Mrs. Grooms at whose home he died, Edward Luther Shover of New Carlisle, Mrs. Mary Louise Monk and Mrs. Ruby Darlene Coburn of Portsmouth, Raymond Herbert who is a patient at Percy Jones hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., after having served in the European district, Mrs. Lula Bernice Thompson of Dayton and Mrs. Mamie Gladys Braughra of Baltimore; a brother, William Franklin Shover of Friendship and 11 grandchildren. Four children are deceased.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Methodist church of which the deceased was a member. Albert White of Stockdale, a friend of the family will officiate. Burial will be in the Friendship cemetery. The body is at the funeral home, where it will remain until the funeral hour.

Portsmouth Daily Time, Saturday, Oct. 24, 1914
Miss Ella Shofer
Miss Ella Shofer, aged 19 years, a daughter of William Shofer, a steelworker, died at the family home in Stewartville Friday night of black diptheria. She had been ill for ten days. Besides her father she is survived by several sisters and brothers. The remains will be taken to Kentucky for burial Sunday.

Mrs. Frances Shover
Mrs. Frances Ellen Shover of Friendship who died Saturday in Mercy hospital at the age of 83, will be buried Tuesday in Friendship Methodist cemetery. Preceding internment under direction of Emrick funeral home, Rev. William F. Clay will officiate at the funeral at 2:30 p.m. in Friendship Methodist church.
The widow of Benjamin F. Shover, the octogenarian was born June 22, 1861. She was a member of the Friendship Church of Christ.
Surviving are two sons, Edward and William F. of Friendship; two brothers, William Davis of New Boston and John Davis of Portsmouth and three sisters, Mrs. Effie Hughes of Columbus, Mrs. Mary Campbell of Latham and Mrs. Lyra Davis of Valley View.

Iva I. Shover, 101, of Bradley, died Saturday (Dec. 18, 1993) at Riverside Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. until the time of funeral service, 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Hertz-Thoma Chapel. Brother David Dickerson will conduct the service. Burial will be at Bonfield Cemetery. Memorials to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was born Dec. 12, 1892 at Bonfield.
She was the daughter of William and Lilly Belle Davis Schutters. She was married in 1912 in Kankakee to Clarence Watson. He died. She was married May 1, 1918 to Joseph Shover in Crown Point, Ind. He died in 1943. She had worked for the Turk Furniture Store and had been an aide at the Casper Nursing Home. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Bourbonnais.
She was an avid gardner and also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law: Melvin and Luella Watson, Bradley; Clyde Shover, Fairbanks, Alaska; Victor Shover, Aurora; Maurice and Mildred Shover, Buckingham; and one daughter, Florence LaReau of Bradley. She had 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren. Nine step-children, four sisters, one brother and one grandchild preceded her in death.

Portsmouth Daily Times, Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1927
Mrs. Pearl Shover
Mrs. Pearl Shover, 30, of 4345, Rhodes avenue, who had been in poor health the past year, died at her home in New Boston about 8:30 Wednesday morning.
Those who survive besides her husband, William Shover, are five children, Dorothy Mae, Ada Vernice, Carl, Howard and Geneva.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon from the New Boston First Christian church. Interment will follow in Greenlawn cemetery.

Portsmouth Times, Saturday, Feb. 4, 1939
William Shover
William Shover, 75, of Shearer’s Hollow, passed away at 9 a.m. Friday at his home. He was born May 24, 1863.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Shover, and nine children: William Shover Jr. of Rome, Fielden Shover, Mrs. Roy Shoemaker of Sciotoville, Alfred Shover of Shearer’s Hollow, Mrs. James Logan, Mrs. Jake McGraw, Mrs. George Mayfield of North Moreland, Ernest and Bert Shover at home. He also leaves 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Eight children preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Brethren church, with Rev. Wolfe in charge. Burial will be in Memorial park cemetery, under the direction of Daehler’s. The body is at the residence.

Portsmouth Times, Monday, Aug. 27, 1945
William Shover Jr.
William Shover Jr. 52, of Portsmouth rt. 1 was found dead early today at his home on Hill rd.
Coroner Virgil E. Fowler blamed a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; two sons, Carl of Portsmouth, and Howard of Knoxville, Tenn.; three daughters Mrs. Dorothy Whitley of Hamilton, Mrs. Bernice Canter of Baltimore and Mrs. Jean Keyser at home, and six grandchildren.
The body is at Lynn funeral home pending funeral arrangements.

Portsmouth Times, Saturday, July 6, 1968
William F. Shover
Funeral services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Pond Run Baptist Church for William F. Shover, 70, of Pond Run Rd. Stout Star Route.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital Friday, shortly after suffering a heart attack while working on a farm near his home.
A native of Nile Township, Shover was an farmer and retired employe of Detroit Steel Corp. Portsmouth Division. A member of the Untied Steel Workers Union, he had been married to the former Sarah Monk, who died in 1946.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Catherine Evans of Friendship and Mrs. Helen Craft of Greenup, Ky., and four grandchildren.
Rev. Estel Hopkins is to officiate at the services with burial in McKendree Cemetery, near Buena Vista, under direction of Emrick Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the Shover residence.

Portsmouth Daily Times, November 6, 2000
Agnes Sizemore, 98
Agnes R. Sizemore, 98, a former Stockdale resident, died Saturday, at Heartland of Portsmouth.
She was born Oct. 16, 1902, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Alan and Guley Moore Yates. She was a former employee of Drew Shoe Company and had attended First Presbyterian Church of Portsmouth for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Sizemore in 1982. Surviving are one daughter, Marilee D. Sizemore of Heartland of Portsmouth; one brother, Donald Yates of Sciotoville; Three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Michael Sizemore; and nine brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford.

Greenup News, Monday, Feb. 4, 1980
Amy Sizemore
South Shore – Mrs. Amy Sizemore, 68, of South Shore, died Friday, Jan, 25, at the Southern Hills Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio.
A native of Greenup County, Mrs. Sizemore was the daughter of the late Lewis and Verna Musick Skeens. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Sizemore, in 1977.
Survivors include six brother, Jake Skeens of Maloneton, John W. Skeens and Joe Skeens of Load, Henry Skeens of Lura, Ohio, James Skeens of Farmington, Iowa, Warner Skeens of Troy, Ohio; a half-brother, Henry Kegley Jr. of Delaware, Ohio; three step-brothers, Carl Kegley of Tollesboro, Paul Kegley of Greenup, Stanley Kegley of Troy, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Addie Collins of Wilmington, Ohio; two step-sisters, Mrs. Mattie Sizemore of Wyandott, Mich. And Mrs. Jessie Brighamm of Mt. Clemons, Mich.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 27 at the Roberson Funeral Home.

Greenup News, Monday, Nov. 28, 1983
Carl Sizemore
Morehead – Carl E. Sizemore, 74, Morehead, formerly of Greenup, died Sunday, Nov. 20, in Life Care Center in Morehead following a long illness.
Mr. Sizemore was born June 9, 1909, a son of the late Stokely and Sarah Logan Sizemore. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Sizemore in 1971.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Soldier Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Tina Steigall Stevens Sizemore, a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Skeens of Load, three stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Barker of Morehead, Mrs. Gay Hargett of Olive Hill and Mrs. Maxine Hendrickson of Vandalia, Ohio, a son Larry Tackett of Load, two stepsons, James Stevens of Dayton, Ohio, and Jerry Stevens of West Alexandria, Ohio, a brother Ferris Sizemore of Pontiac, Mich., a sister, Mrs. Alma Rohrig of Versailles, Ind., and 22 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday Nov. 23, at the Riggs Funeral Home by the Rev. Henderson Morris. Burial will be in Nichols cemetery at Load.

Greenup News, Thursday, Nov. 6, 1975
Joe Sizemore
Joe Sizemore, 91, Alcorn Road, Greenup, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Sizemore was born March 22, 1884, in Prestonsburg, a son of the late Richard and Polly Jane Salisbury Sizemore. He was a retired farmer. His wife, Mrs. Emily Gibson Sizemore died in 1971.
Surviving are four sons, Richard, Edgar, and William Goble Sizemore all of Greenup, and Ned Sizemore of Upper Sandusky, O., and a daughter Mrs. Ernina Cales of Greenup.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Riggs Funeral Home in Greenup by the Rev. Willard Cooper. Burial was in the Sizemore cemetery at Alcorn Road.
