Charles Lantry, left mark in real estate, community
Charles W. Lantry, longtime real estate broker and Ludlow businessman, died at 3 a.m. Thursday at his Ludlow home. He was 76.
Mr. Lantry and partner Henry Howe started Howe-Lantry Real Estate in 1958. In the 1970s, Mr. Lantry took over the company and moved it to Ludlow when his partner retired.
Mr. Lantry built a reputation for scrupulous honesty. "People used to say he could have made a lot more money if he wasn't so honest," said his son, Jerry Lantry of Ft. Thomas. "He was always honest and fair to anybody he ever dealt with."
Mr. Lantry was a past president of the Kenton-Boone Board of Realtors, which is known today as the Northern Kentucky Board of Realtors.
He and his wife, Deloras Dickman Lantry, raised their family of nine children in Ludlow. He taught them the importance of family and of community, his son said.
Mr. Lantry was a former member of the Ludlow Rotary Club, past president of the Ludlow Business Association, and a member of Ludlow Vets, where he was past chaplain and secretary. Until recently he served on the Ludlow Zoning Commission.
He was past president of the reunion committee of the 359th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army and a member of Mother of God Church in Covington.
"He was a hard worker," said his daughter,
Joan Lanham of Ludlow. "He had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh. And he could tell some great stories."
He was a baseball fan who split his loyalty between the Cincinnati Reds and his sons and grandsons. "He would come out to watch us play. He always looked forward to Friday nights," Jerry Lantry said.
As he neared retirement, he closed Lantry Real Estate and joined Jim Huff Realty in Ft. Mitchell. He developed Parkinson's Disease about seven years ago and later retired. He remained active in family and city projects and continued to do home appraisals, his son said.
Mr. Lantry developed chest pains during the past week, his son said.
He also leaves sons Ron Lantry, Rick Lantry, Tom Lantry and Tim Lantry, all of Ludlow, and Bill Lantry of Covington; daughters, Karen Collins and Lisa Lantry, both of Ludlow; brothers, Jim Lantry of Blue Ash, Ohio, and Roy Lantry of DeLand, Fla.; and 15 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
Dorothy Alston, 74, of Georgetown, died Wednesday at Georgetown Community Hospital. She was a retired registered nurse and formerly worked at Dayton State Hospital, Arizona State Hospital, and Fairborn Nursing Home in Ohio.
Survivors include a brother, Floyd "George" Lonkard of Corinth; sisters, Rose Turner of Corinth and Ada Howard of Harriman, Tenn.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery.
Kenneth E. "Gene" Belew, 74, of Demossville, died Thursday at his home. He formerly was a construction worker for Richter Concrete in Cincinnati. He also was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Pendleton County and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mildred Bowen Belew; a son, Terry Belew of Mooresville, N. C.; daughters, Donna Melhorn of Walton and Peggy Belew of Crescent Springs; sisters, Doris Malone of Mt. Washington, Ohio, and Ruth Feldhaus of Florence; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Route 1, Box 157AA, Demossville, Ky., 41033.
David Allen Creech Jr., 17, of Dayton, died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an auto accident on Donaldson Highway in Erlanger. He was a junior at Fifth District School in Covington and a former student at Newport Central Catholic High School.
Survivors include his mother, Carol Williams Creech of Dayton; his father, David Allen Creech, Sr. of Covington; a brother, Jason Creech at home; a sister, Katie Creech of Bellevue; and grandparents, Alfred Dallas Creech and Frances Creech of Bellevue, and Carolyn Williams of Ft. Thomas.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. Visita tion will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. David Dean Eddins, 48, of Florence, died Tuesday at his residence. He was a supervisor for Cincinnati Bell Information Systems. He also was a member of Greenview Baptist Church, the Flying Aces in Alexandria and the Kenton County Game and Fish Club.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dean Eddins; a daughter, Anna Eddins Palmer of Walton; a son, James W. Eddins of Independence; brothers, Jeff Eddins of Dry Ridge and William Eddins of Independence; sisters, Patricia Locke of Walton and Mary Gaines of Dry Ridge; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Kenneth Keys, 78, of Newport, Tenn., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Baptist Hospital, Newport, Tenn.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
Lilah "Pat" Suber Kneal, 83, of Erlanger, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Senior Citizens of Erlanger. Her husband, Walter W. Kneal, died in 1991.
Survivors include daughters, Myrna Kae Kneal of Villa Hills, Joyce Kennerly of Louisville, Mary Ellen Herthel of Erlanger and Nancy Waller West of West Chester, Ohio; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
William L. "Willie" Kremer, 82, of Melbourne, died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired truck driver for Fries Brothers, Cincinnati. He also was a member of St. Joseph Church, Camp Springs; St. Joseph Senior Hilltoppers; Happy 100 of Alexandria; AARP of Alexandria; and Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph Court No. 1725.
His first wife, Vera C. Kremer, died in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Hartig Kremer; sons, Harry Kremer of Newport, Ronald Kremer of Tampa, Fla., and Kenneth Kremer of Camp Springs; a daughter, Mary Catherine Kramer of Camp Springs; stepdaughters, Wanda Sendelbach and Gerri Schultz, both of Camp Springs, and Shirley Studer of Cold Spring; a brother, Edward J. Kremer of Melbourne; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nine step grandchildren.

Howard H. Lehkamp, 92, of Highland Heights, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired chief transportation agent for the B&O; and C&O; Railroads. He also was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Ft. Thomas, and a former member of the Ft. Thomas Men's Club. His wife, Garnet E. Carter Lehkamp, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Lehkamp of Ft. Thomas; a daughter, Lois Schneider of Southgate; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate. Visitation will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. George H. Schroder, 73, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday at Mercy Anderson Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired warehouse supervisor.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Schroder of Highland Heights; and a half-brother, Robert Trentman of Cincinnati.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angels Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at T.P. White and Sons Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wilder.
John C. Smith, 58, of Covington, died Thursday at his residence.

Alma G. Washnock, 89, of Dillsboro, Ind., died Wednesday at Dillsboro Manor.
Survivors include sons, Ralph Washnock of Florida, Colin Washnock of Florence, Ind., Gary Washnock of Cincinnati, Vernon Washnock of Moores Hill, Ind., and Leslie Washnock of Brookville, Ind.; daughters, Ruth Boone of Cincinnati, Wilma Gillespie of Aurora, Ind., Jean Luke of Dillsboro, Ind., and Pam Conley of Milan, Ind.; sisters, Mabel Lustenberg of Burlington and Rosalyn Stergen of Cleves, Ohio; 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. EDT Saturday at Humphrey-Taylor-Detmer Funeral Home, Rising Sun, Ind. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rising Sun New Cemetery.
