John Sam Smith
Funeral services for John Sam Smith, 75, of 1320 Calvert’s Lane, West Portsmouth, are to be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Holiness Church in West Portsmouth where he was a member.
Smith Died Saturday at Portsmouth General Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1888, at Leatherwood, Ky., he was a son of the John M. and Laura Jimison Smith.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Smith; a son Manuel Smith of Orangeville, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Eunice Hackworth of Otway Rt. 2; a brother, Denbo Smith of Frankfort, Ohio; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His parents, first wife, a daughter, a brother, and a sister preceded him in death.
Rev. Charles Hale is to officiate, and burial is to be in Parsons cemetery at Leatherwood under the direction of Morton Funeral Home of South Shore.

Joshua Smith, 74,
Retired Railroader, Claimed By Death
Joshua Smith, 74, a retired blacksmith helper for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Co. died at 1 p.m. last Tuesday at his home in Raceland after an extended illness.
Mr. Smith was born June 18, 1888 in Greenup, a son of the late Benjamin and Rebecca Van Bibber Smith. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sophia Smith, a daughter, Mrs. Frances Lorraine Jones of Gouverneur, N. Y., and one brother Charles Smith of West Russell.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Evans Funeral Home at Raceland by the Rev. Charles Holt. Burial was in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Laura Smith
Mrs. Larua Amanda Smith, 94, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of a son, Denbo Smith of Brushart, Greenup co.
Besides the son at whose home she passed away she leaves two other sons, Everett E. of Lucasville and John S. of Portsmouth. Seven children preceded her in death and her husband, John M. Smith died 17 years ago.
She leaves 18 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian Church.
Last rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Christian church at Brushart. Interment will be in Parson cemetery under direction of Morton funeral home.

Flatwoods Woman, Lovena Smith, 82, Taken In Death
Mrs. Louvena Smith, 82, died Sunday at the home of Matthew Brown, of Flatwoods.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 22, 1881, at Flatwoods, the daughter of the late David R. and Caroline Brown England. She was a member of the Penecostal Holiness Tabernacle.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Freeman Willet, Pleasure Ridge Park; three sons Norman, Robert and Hobert Smith, all of Raceland; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother Chris England of Russell and two sisters, Mrs. Edna Griffith and Mrs. Elizabeth Colegrove, both of Flatwoods.
Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday at the Evans Funeral Home. Burial was in Rude Cemetery.

Smith
Lucasville – Mrs. Lucy Smith, 92, of Lucasville Rt. 4, died at 1:15 a.m. today in Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth.
She was a native of Elliott County, Ky. Her husband Everett Smith died in 1960.
Survivors include two sons, Walker Smith of Lucasville Rt. 4 and Frank Smith of John St., Portsmouth; four daughters, Mrs. Ethel Greene of Portsmouth, Mrs. Minnie Clark of Oxford, Mrs. Pearl Walker, 804 John St., Portsmouth and Mrs. Nettie Smith of Trenton; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Community Bible Church of Lucasville, of which he was member, with Rev. Paul Hagen officiating. Burial is to be in Lucasville Cemetery.
Friends may call at McKinley Funeral Home here after 7 tonight, after 2 p.m. Tuesday and until 1 p.m. Wednesday, when the body is to be moved to the church.

Funeral Services Held Friday For Malinda J. Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Malinda Jane Smith, of Raceland, were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Smith residence on Pond Run.
Mrs. Smith, the widow of James N. Smith, died at her home Tuesday at 9 a.m., following a lengthy illness. She was 74.
Rev. Jack Downs officiated at the services. Burial was in Palmer cemetery in Flatwoods.
Surviving are eight children. They are: Clancy Smith, Flatwoods; Mrs. J. W. Tune, Raceland; Mrs. Lettie Manning, Owensboro, Ky.; James Smith, at home; Charles Smith, San Antonio, Tex.; Mrs. Clifford Mosher, Six Lakes, Mich.; and Henry Smith, Miami, Fla.
A sister, Mrs. Alpha Smith of West Russell, also survives.
Pallbearers were Paul J. Smith, Paul Smith, George Smith, Bill Little, Norman Smith and James Manning.

Marce Smith
1919-2003
Marce Smith, 84, of Leatherwood Road, Garrison, went to be with the Lord Monday, April 21, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Leatherwood, Ky., a son of the late Lewis and Mandy K. Burns Smith.
He was a retired farmer, was a member of Carter City Church of Christ, was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Man First Award, the Combat Medical Badge First Award and an Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years and 11 months, Esther Imel Smith; two sons, Marce Michael Smith of Leatherwood and Danny Smith of Whitesburg, Ky.; one daughter, Sherry Ann Caudill of Smith Branch Road, Greenup; one brother, Paul Smith of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; one sister, Anna Madden of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Melissa Madden, Macaela Worthington, Mitch L. Smith, Marcy Stapleton, Candy Craft, Danielle Buckler, and Tommy T. Buckler; three step-grandchildren, Allison Fleming, Amber Caudill, and Autumn Caudill; six great-grandchildren, Bryce Madden, Chelsey Vaughn, Cody Vaughn, Austin Craft, Ethan Craft, Island Tackett; and one step great-grandchild, Nicholas Wayne Fleming.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Brady Smith, George Smith, Therman Smith, Herman Smith, and Riley Smith; five sisters, Mary Ann Sloas, Clarice Holland, Hannah Ashe, Loraine Motley and Sally Sparks.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by James Potter, minister. Burial will be in Logan cemetery on Zion Ridge, Garrison.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight and one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Military graveside service will be conducted by James L. Flannery American Legion Post 276 of South Shore, Ky.

Mrs. Maud M. Smith
Mrs. Maud M. Smith, 83, of 1316 Summit Street, died Thursday at 8:35 PM at Smith-Everett Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born July 26, 1873, in Greenup County, the daughter of George W. and Alethea Tanner Gammon. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are three daughters Mrs. Ray Richey, 1351 Fifth Street, W. Portsmouth, Oh., Mrs. George List 1617 Highland Avenue, and Beatrice Taylor of Miami Beach, Fla., six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith had been a member of the Central Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 PM at Daehler Funeral Home. Paul Neal, minister, will officiate. Burial will be at Siloam Cemetery.

Smith
Greenup, Ky. – Morris Jefferson Smith, 80, of Greenup, a former resident of Big Leatherwood, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland after a brief illness.
Smith was an Army veteran of World War I, a retired farmer and a member of Brushart Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Green Smith; three sons, Millard (M.J.) Smith of Lloyd, Carl Smith of Load and Jack Smith of Garrison Rt. 2; five daughters, Mrs. Hazel Musser of Sciotoville, Mrs. Elizabeth Baker, Mrs. Louise Bradley of York; a brother Louis Smith of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Billups of Troy, Ohio and Mrs. Margaret Bennett of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Funeral services are to be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bruchart Christian Church on Big Leatherwood. Interment is to be in Logan cemetery at Zion Ridge under direction of J. B. Wright Funeral Home in Greenup.

Mrs. John Smith
Mrs. Nora Mae Smith, 64, of 1320 Calvert’s Lane, West Portsmouth, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, at Smith-Everett Hospital after being a patient five days.
Born Oct. 14, 1895, at Brushart Ky., she was a daughter of John D. and Eliza Fisher Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, two sisters and a brother.
Surviving are her husband, John (Sam) Smith; a daughter, Mrs. Eunice Hackworth of McDermott Rt. 1, a son Manuel Smith of South Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Cooper, 1546 ½ Third Street and Mrs. Alma Wooten of Minford; a brother Harmie Parsons of Antigo, Wis; eight grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Mrs. Smith was a member of God’s Holiness Chapel Church at West Portsmouth.
Funeral services art to be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Morton’s funeral home in New Boston, with Rev. Charles Hale officiating. Burial is to be in Parsons cemetery at Brushart.
