Gentry Aubrey, 24, promising law student

A promising life was cut short Saturday when Gentry Aubrey died following a car crash on the Brent Spence Bridge.

The 24-year-old Covington resident was returning home from a party early Saturday morning with his fiance, Chrissy Dunn of Fort Thomas, when he stopped to avoid hitting a car that had stalled in front of him.

Then a third car rear-ended his car. When Mr. Aubrey got out to investigate, he was hit by another car. He died of his injuries at University Hospital.

Mr. Aubrey lived in Lexington until he was 14. He went to elementary school in Nicholasville, where his mother, Connie Lefaivre, was principal.

When he was in 10th grade, the family moved to Burlington, and he attended Conner High School. He played basketball there and graduated with honors, said his stepfather, Peter Lefaivre.

A true-blue Wildcat fan, he attended the University of Kentucky and graduated cum laude with departmental honors in business.

During his summers off from college, he ran his own one-man window-washing business for Northern Kentucky homes, which he called Winning Ticket Window Washing.

He received a full scholarship to the Salmon P. Chase Law School at Northern Kentucky University, his stepfather said, and he was in his second year of law school. He was the vice president of the school's law fraternity.

He also worked 10 to 20 hours a week as a law clerk for the Cincinnati firm of Waite, Schneider, Bayless and Chesley.

Attorney Stan Chesley called Aubrey a wonderful young man with a great deal of promise, "the kind of person who would always volunteer to help."

Aubrey hoped to work as an attorney, possibly in the sports realm, his stepfather said.

Along with his fiance, he served as co-captain of Chase's moot court team, and had just finished preparing a 15-page brief to defend in national competition.

"The happiest time of our boy's life was the past 18 months, " his stepfather said. "He just grew up and became this wonderful young man who still had these childlike qualities of being so kind and thoughtful."

Everyone called him the perfect son, his stepfather said.

Survivors in addition to his mother and stepfather include his father, David Aubrey of Lexington; two stepbrothers; a stepsister; grandparents, Robert and Lois Silvanik of Louisville and Mrs. John Aubrey of Minot, N.D.; and step-grandparents, Francis and Marjorie Lefaivre of Calgary, Canada.
