Earl 'Bud' Franks, 'quite a character'
Earl A. "Bud" Franks believed God would drive his life in the right direction -- in business, in his family and even on the interstate.
Mr. Franks, 80, of Florence, died Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence.
"He was quite a character, " said his daughter, Angie Billiter, of Richwood.
Billiter said she and her 10 brothers and sisters used to tease her dad because he drove fast on the interstate.
"He would drive with his rosary in one hand, and if traffic was moving too slow, he would whip into the berm on either side and pass cars, " she said.
Billiter said his serious side showed through in his dedication to his children and wife, Dorothy Franks, St. Paul Church in Florence and the family business he founded, Earl Franks Sons & Daughters in Covington.
The family flooring business is on Madison Avenue.
Billiter said she is proud of the support her father showed to his four daughters, especially when he added the term "daughters" to his business name. Two daughters, including Billiter, and six sons work for the family business.
Mr. Franks also was a former member of St. Henry Church in Elsmere, a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society at St. Henry, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
