Joseph Kohler, loved job as history teacher
Joseph E. Kohler was so dedicated to teaching that he refused to become principal when offered that job at Bellevue High School.
Mr. Kohler, 76, of Fort Thomas died Monday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas.
He taught history at Bellevue for 34 years and late in his career was asked to become the school's principal. He declined, said his sister-in-law, Helen Kohler of Fort Thomas because "he just didn't want to be out of the classroom."
Mr. Kohler was a member of the board of regents that helped to establish Northern Kentucky University in 1968, she said.
He also was active in St. Anthony Church in Bellevue, where he was a eucharistic minister and a member of the parish and school councils.
He would help parishioners and his neighbors when they needed transportation to doctor's appointments and the grocery store.
"If somebody needed help, he would help them, " she said.
Survivors include a brother, John Kohler of Fort Thomas.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue.
A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.
Robert E. Allen, 74, of Independence, died Thursday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger. He was an employee of Northern Kentucky Orthopedics and a former chemist with Mallinckrodt Inc. in St. Louis. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park, was involved in the Stephen Ministry and Northern Kentucky Walk to Emmaus programs, and was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include daughters, Dawn Feichtmann of Las Vegas, Leeane Schulze of St. Charles, Mo., Dr. Mary Lynne Bennett of Fairmont, W.Va., and Elizabeth Allen of Erlanger; brothers, Rev. Lowell D. Allen of Chicago and Dr. William Allen of Columbia, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2551 Dixie Highway, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017; or the charity of the donor's choice. Jerry Rhodes Asbury, 59, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Mason County, died Sunday at University Hospital, Charlotte. He was an insurance agent and a member of National Association of Professional Agents and Germantown United Methodist Church and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Rhodes Asbury II of Augusta, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Mary Denise Asbury of Charlotte; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
William F. Borges, 61, of Bellevue, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was disabled, was a member of Bellemont Social Club and an Army veteran.
Survivors include daughters, Freda Borges of Owenton and Tanya Osbourn of Covington; a son, Joseph Borges of Owenton; a brother, Clifford Borges of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Mildred L. Camm, 81, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a medical technician with St. Luke Hospitals and a member of St. Andrews Church, Fort Thomas. A daughter, Diane Camm, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Camm of Alexandria; a son, Scott Camm of Monroe, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Susan F. Dringenburg, 81, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Saturday at Pikes Peak Hospice, Colorado Springs. She was a homemaker and a member of Hopeful Lutheran Church, Florence.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Sue Dringenburg of Colorado Springs; sons, Glenn Dringenburg of Boynton Beach, Fla., Rick Dringenburg of Pleasant Shade, Tenn., and Roy Dringenburg of Florence; a sister, Mary Sands of Sebring, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Virginia Lea Faselt, 73, of Latonia, died at 2:42 a.m. Sunday in her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Covington East, Taylor Mill.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Faselt; sons, John Edward Faselt of Brooksville, Fla., and Timothy Lee Faselt of Cincinnati; daughters, Jennifer Jean Thompson and Trina Louise Marsh, both of Latonia, Teresa Lorene Faselt of Kenton Vale and Tamara Lynn Farmer of Burlington; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Donald E. Hammons Jr., 43, of Crittenden, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a safety and environmental director with Sterling Materials, Verona.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Hammons; sons, Christopher J. Hammons of Morning View and Benjamin T. Hammons of Williamstown; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Fariello of Crittenden; a stepson, Stephen Fariello of Crittenden; his parents, Barbara L. Bender Hammons and Donald E. Hammons Sr. of Covington; a brother, Douglas E. Hammons of West Point, Utah; and grandmother, Louise Bender of Covington.

Gertrude Vallandingham Jones, 93, of Warsaw, died Monday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a saleswoman with Coppins Department Store, Covington, a former secretary with Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. in Cincinnati and a member of Crittenden Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry G. Jones of Williamstown; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Ruth L. Moloney, 83, of Augusta, died Sunday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a retired beautician and homemaker, and a member of St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Her husband, James W. Moloney, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hedges of Augusta; a son, David Moloney of Augusta; a brother, Tommy Sharp of Butler; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta. Steven Alan Newman, 48, of Villa Hills, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a truck driver with Team Worldwide Trucking Co.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Newman; a stepson, Wayne Pittsley Jr. of Middleboro, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Audrey F. Thurston of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Kay Specht of Duncan, Okla.; and two step-grandchildren.

Faye M. Gann Noble, 65, of Fort Mitchell, died Sunday at her home.
She was a sales agent with AAA Auto Club.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd D. Noble of London; sons, Scott A. Noble of Fort Wright and Gary L. Noble of Covington; her mother, Dorothy Sercy of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Brenda Lays and Phyllis Loaiza, both of Columbus, and Alva Duke of Nashville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Ewing Saunders, 84, of Maysville, died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday at his home. He was a farmer, attended Faith Assembly of God in Maysville and was an Army veteran of World War II. Wives, Bertha Wilson Saunders, Juanita Rich Saunders and Betty Jordon Saunders, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Fay Saunders; sons, Wade Saunders, Delmar Saunders and Clarence Saunders, all of Maysville, Jerry Saunders of Sanford, N.C., James Saunders of Morehead and John Saunders of Detroit; stepsons, Joe McIntosh of Georgetown, Ohio, and Ellery Hines of Aberdeen, Ohio; daughters, Patty Bingham of Corbin, Beulah Maloney of Beattyville, Shirley Scott of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Nancy Saunders of Detroit; 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

George Matthew Swinford, 77, of Erlanger, died Sunday at his home.

Kenneth Wigglesworth, 74, of Union, died at noon Monday at his home.
He was a retired welder with Interlake Steel, Newport, and a Navy veteran. His first wife, Jeanette Schultz Wigglesworth, and second wife, Lora Hopkins Wigglesworth, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Tina Forsyth of Union and Deborah Dow of Verona; sons, Kenneth Wigglesworth of Chicago, Brad Wigglesworth of Williamstown, Jeffrey Marler of Independence, Gregory Hopkins and Roscoe Hopkins, both of Elsmere; a sister, Dollie Schzlenlord of Florence; a brother, Harry Wigglesworth of Crittenden; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Janet M. "Dee Dee" Wilkins, 58, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was an employee of the Kroger Co. in Covington, and a member of First Baptist Church, Dayton.
Survivors include sisters, Deborah Fry of Covington and Nancy Spivey of Bellevue.
