Rev. David Heil, former Episcopal pastor
The Rev. David Heil exchanged his typewriter for a clerical collar.
He spent 19 years as a newspaper reporter before making a mid-life change and became an Episcopal church priest.
Among churches Rev. Heil served was St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Thomas, where he was pastor for 15 years, between 1968 and 1983.
Rev. Heil, 79, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served aboard the SS Thomas B. Robertson, a liberty ship taken over by the Navy that was a ferry control ship for the invasion of Normandy.
"He made a promise to God during the invasion that if he came through it, he would become a priest, " said Mr. Heil's wife of 57 years, Teresa "Terry" Heil. "The promise haunted him, and it was a slow process. But he kept his promise.
"He was such a loving person. He cared for people, he really did. He was very outgoing, with a wonderful sense of humor and a lot of love for people."
Rev. Heil joined the Normandy Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He spent 19 years as a newspaper reporter with the Moundsville, W.Va., Echo; Wheeling, W.Va., News-Register and Intelligencer; Palm Beach, Fla., Post-Times; Miami Herald and the Lexington Herald-Leader.
He attended the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Lexington and was ordained a priest on Dec. 29, 1961.
In the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington, Rev. Heil served many years on the Standing Committee of the diocese and was clerical deputy of the Episcopal Church's general convention in 1979 and 1981.
He was named an honorary canon of the Diocese of Lexington and was awarded the Legion of Merit medal for diocesan service.
In 1981, his seminary awarded him an honorary doctorate of divinity degree.
Other survivors include a son, David Heil of Cameron, W.Va.; a daughter, Marti Heil-Carney of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Southgate.

Norma E. Bleser, 66, of Wilder, died at 10:08 a.m. Wednesday in her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Corpus Christi Social Club, Brighton Center Seniors and Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary, and was a past president of St. Francis Mothers Club.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Bleser; sons, Kevin Bleser of Covington and Keith Bleser of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughters, Karen Spangler of Cincinnati and Kim Lawler of Dayton; and 11 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Gertrude Lenham Henson, 86, of Erlanger, died Feb. 27 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia and Order of the Easter Star, Bradford Lodge in Independence. She was a former Girl Scouts leader, president of the Walton Homemakers, and president of the New Haven Elementary and Boone County Schools PTAs.
She also played with the Northern Kentucky Symphony, and was choir director at three area churches. She was an organist with Walton Christian Church and organist with Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
She also was secretary with Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Her husband, Harry Henson, died in 1995.
Survivors include daughters, Ceryle Burk of Justin, Texas, Rachel Partin of Newport and Nicole Henson of Covington; and seven great-grandsons.
Services were Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Anna Louise Wisbey Hill, 79, of Batavia, Ohio, formerly of Elsmere, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Clermont.

Ann M. Kleinman, 103, of Edgewood, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella and the St. Mary's Women's Guild. Her husband, Raymond R. Kleinman, died in 1958.
Survivors include daughters, Lois A. Flach and Mary R. Kleinman, both of Edgewood; a sister, Marcella Smith of Edgewood; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Jean Koretos, 89, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Gus Koretos, died in 1982.
Survivors include daughters, Darlyne Koretos of Fort Thomas and JoAnn Papanek of Wilmette, Ill.; a brother, Bill Fefes of Los Angeles; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gladys Liebermann, 95, of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice unit, Covington.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Community Christian Church, Fort Wright. She was a past president of the Booth Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Fifth District School PTA and Covington Weekday School of Religion, and a member of the Hilltoppers Senior Citizen Club. Her husband, Norbert Liebermann, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Monhollen of Crittenden; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Sunday. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Thelma P. McHargue, 86, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Her husband, Eugene S. McHargue, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Moellman of Alexandria, Jean Schultz of Villa Hills, Denise Kuprionis of Loveland, Ohio, and Diane Dressman of Erlanger; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thomas P. Murray Jr., 55, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a custodian with St. Agnes School, Fort Wright, and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Murray; a daughter, Autumn E. Murray of Dry Ridge; sons, Shawn M. Murray of San Francisco and Brandon W. Murray of Honeyville, Utah; sisters, Sheila Murray, Mary Theresa Weingartner and Eileen Pickens, all of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright, followed by a reception in the church undercroft.

Lesley Patricia Pettit, 56, of Lexington, formerly of Crescent Springs, died Wednesday at her home.

Timmy H. Phillips, 47, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at Harrison County Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 109.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Phillips; a son, Timmy Phillips of Cynthiana; a daughter, Monica Mounts of Ridgecrest, Calif.; his parents, Ron Phillips of Logan, N.M., and Betty Phillips McGaha of Falmouth; brothers, Todd Phillips of Independence and Leslie McGaha of Richmond; a sister, Ronda Barker of Falmouth; and two grandchildren.

James Rose, 81, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Batavia Nursing Home, Batavia, Ohio.
He was a retired farmer, a member of Leesburg Christian church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Frances Fryman Rose; daughters, Doris McCown of Cynthiana and Patricia Linville of Carlisle; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

He was an insulator with Henkel Corp. and a member of United Steel Workers Union and Latonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Moses Spaw; sisters, Jackie Farmer of Baltimore, Milly Arnold of Sidney, Ohio, and Linda Elstun and Bridget Junker, both of Florence; and brothers, Hal Spaw of Erlanger and James Spaw of California.

David Lawrence Stanley, 49, of Burlington, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a former machinist with General Electric and a former employee of Cincinnati Milacron.
