Joseph John Paolucci, loved restoring cars

Joseph John "Joe" Paolucci learned to drive at age 16 in a 1955 DeSoto that made an indelible impression on him.

His lifelong hobby was restoring and showing off old cars, particularly 1955 Chrysler Corp. vehicles.

"He loved old cars, belonged to car clubs and enjoyed exhibiting cars at conventions, " said his wife of 38 years, Phyllis Sue Tye Paolucci.

Mr. Paolucci, 58, of Walton, died Monday of cancer at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Three of Mr. Paolucci's cars -- a pink and white 1955 DeSoto, a black 1955 Dodge and a black and rose 1955 Dodge station wagon -- will be driven in his funeral procession.

Restoring cars was a painstaking process that Mr. Paolucci relished.

It took him seven years to restore one car and eight years to restore another.

"One car he restored he had found in a field with a tree growing up through the bumper, " said Mrs. Paolucci.

Mr. Paolucci was a founding member of the National DeSoto Club and also belonged to the Walter P. Chrysler Club and the Cincinnati Special Interest Automobile Club.

He worked in the office business machine industry and most recently was a service manager for Del Business Products in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

He was a member of St. Benedict Church in Covington and All Saints Church in Walton, belonged to the Catholic Order of Forresters and was a charter member of the Boone Lake Fishing Club.

Other survivors include two sons, Joseph John Paolucci III of Southgate and Thomas Preston Paolucci of Wilder; a daughter, Jennifer Marie Denkins of Manchester; two brothers, Jerry Paolucci of Florence and Thomas Paolucci of Richwood; a sister, Jeanne Dunaway of Burlington; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Entombment will be at St. Stephen Mausoleum in Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Florence, Ky. 41042; or American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.

William J. Adams, 57, of Newport, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was disabled.

Survivors include his mother, Nannie Griffith of Newport; a brother, Ronnie Adams of Newport; and sisters, Barbara Tipton of Alexandria, Joanne Curington of Cincinnati, Jeanette Fields and Lisa Adams, both of Newport, Priscilla Adams of Elsmere, Marcella Faulkner of Dayton and Judy Adams of Florence.

Services will be at noon Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the funeral home, 822 York St., Newport, Ky. 41071.

JoAnn Anderson, 56, of Hamilton, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died Friday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Angela Anderson of Hamilton; a son, Joe Anderson of Fairfield, Ohio; brothers, James T. Walls Jr. of Fort Myers, Fla., Bobby Walls of Covington and Billy Walls of Elsmere; sisters, Sue Taylor of Fort Myers, Beverly Hayes of Ironton, Ohio, Penny Baker and Jenny Napier, both of Newport; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Pauline Bowling, 70, of Crittenden, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Carlos Bowling, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Lionel Bowling of Crittenden and Greg Bowling of Florence; daughters, Thelma Cooper of Falmouth and Sherry Dillinger of Dry Ridge; brothers, John Mayes, Earl Mayes and Lucian Mayes, all of Booneville, Billy Mayes of Jackson and Willard Mayes of Newport; sisters, Debbie Stump, June Holiday and Nancy Sebastian, all of Booneville; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Indian Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Booneville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Burial will be in Indian Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Indian Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, in care of Sheila Thomas, HC64, Box 643, Booneville, Ky. 41314.

Lori Garrett Combs, 43, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at University Medical Center, Lexington. She was a homemaker and attended Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia.

Survivors include sons, Dustin Combs of Edgewood and Cory P. Lawson of Crittenden; her other, Barbara J. Garrett of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Robin Jones and Diane Larson, both of Taylor Mill, and Darlene Yuellig of Hillsboro, Ohio; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Lori Garrett Combs Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 15104, Covington, Ky. 41015.

Mose Combs, 62, of Newport, died Monday at his home.

He was a retired factory worker with Formica Corp., Cincinnati.

Survivors include daughters, Sheila Merrill of Mason, Ohio, and Gelyne Combs of the state of California; a son, Gary Combs of Newport; his mother, Polly Combs of Talbert; brothers, Sam Combs, Alex Combs Jr. and Bert T. Combs, all of Newport, Johnny Combs of Covington and Jeff Combs of Butler; sisters, Arminda Raleigh and America Combs, both of Newport; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Additional services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Turners Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, Talbert. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Talbert.

Milton J. Gillespie, 72, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Mary "Emily" Wilson Jasper, 65, of Covington, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Church, Covington.

A son, Jerry Centers, died in 1997.

Survivors include her husband, David J. Jasper; sons, Terry Centers of Crittenden and David Jasper of Villa Hills; sisters, Audra Dunn of Campton, Jan Sizemore of Newport and Linda Finch of Insko; a brother, Johnny Prater of Lexington; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Davis Lee Jones, 77, of Augusta, died Sunday at his home.

He was a federal agriculture inspector, a member of Triumph Christian Church and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn "Toby" Dennis Jones; sons, David W. Jones of Knoxville, Tenn., and Dennis L. Jones of Reading, Ohio; a sister, Pauline Mullikin of Walton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.

Janie King, 30, of Dry Ridge, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

She was a homemaker and a member of Beechgrove Baptist Church, Independence.

Survivors include her husband, Phil King; sons, Bobby King and Tylor King, both at home; a daughter, Harley King, at home; her parents, Michael McVey of Cold Spring and Kathy Capps of Alexandria; and brothers, Michael McVey and John Capps, both of Dry Ridge, and Jerry Capps of Mason.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Opal V. Lindsay, 80, of Latonia, died Tuesday at Highland Heights Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Floyd Lindsay, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Hunt of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Larry D. Lindsay of Silver Grove; a stepdaughter, Glenna Sue Lindsay of Walton; stepsons, Bill Lindsay of Alexandria and Eddie Lindsay of Newport; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Effie Lee Paden, 83, of Newport, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of American Legion Post No. 11 Auxiliary, Newport.

Her husband, James Paden, died in 1973.

Survivors include daughters, Linda McGaha and Joyce Paden, both of Newport; sons, James W. Paden of Tampa, Fla., Richard R. Paden and Greg Paden, both of Newport, and Donald E. Paden of Elsmere; a sister, Frances Colston of Latonia; a brother, Raymond Anderson of Florence; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Arthur S. Rayhle, 62, of Union, died Monday at his home.

He was owner of SAR Image Concepts in Burlington and a former secretary and commodore of the Northern Kentucky Boat Club, Bellevue. He was a member of Florence Elks Lodge No. 314.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki L. Morgan Rayhle; a son, Steven A. Rayhle of St. Cloud, Fla.; a stepson, Julius Claypool of Covington; a daughter, Cheryl L. Eckelman of Milford, Ohio; his father and stepmother, Arthur H. and Bertha Rayhle of Alexandria; and mother, Jane Rayhle; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Florence Elks Lodge No. 314, 7704 Dixie Highway, Florence, Ky. 41042.

George Slayback, 77, of Union, died Monday at his home. He was a mechanic with Brophy Chevron, Florence.

His wife, Charlane Slayback, died in 2002.

Survivors include sons, George Slayback Jr. of Elsmere, Jeffrey Slayback of Union and David Abdon of Erlanger; and daughters, Jodi Bravard of Erlanger and Sherry Paul of Walton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720; or American Heart Association, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, Ky. 40202.

Richard Otto Wegert, 82, of Cold Spring, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati.

He was a salesman with Storey Machinery and a member of Disabled American Veterans, the Retired Officers Association, Greater Cincinnati POW's, the 459th Bomb Group Association, St. Joseph Seniors, Knights of Columbus Dejaco Council and Kersten O'Day VFW Post No. 2899, Dayton.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Wegert; sons, David Wegert of Highland Heights, Richard Wegert of Fort Thomas and Steven Wegert of Keller, Texas; a brother, Wilbert Wegert of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.

Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Veterans Administration Nursing Home, 1000 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075; or St. Joseph Church, 4011 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.
