Kenneth Reed, 66, loved teaching science
Kenneth P. Reed loved teaching science so much that he even did it at home.
The chemistry professor and industrial hygienist would do little experiments around the house with his three daughters, said daughter Susan Reed Butsch of Gahanna, Ohio.
"Teaching is who he was, " she said. "It wasn't just his job."
Mr. Reed, 66, of Edgewood, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
His daughter said he was the kind of guy everyone wanted to be like -- kind, smart and well-rounded.
He was active in the community as a member of St. Pius X Church in Edgewood and a past president of the Covington Rotary Club.
Mr. Reed had a wide array of other interests, including spending time with his grandchildren, studying World War II history, and reading books, especially science fiction novels and works by author Tom Clancey.
"He was knowledgeable, " his daughter said. "If he said something, you knew it was true."
He also loved the outdoors and was a member of the Kenton Game and Fish Club, she said. He liked to golf, fish and shoot.
He was an industrial hygienist with SRW Environmental Inc., Milford, Ohio, a chemistry professor at Thomas More College, and an independent environmental consultant.
In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife, Carol Luken Reed; daughters, Dr. Ann Reed Macke of Villa Hills and Pamela Reed Miller of Florence; a brother, Gary G. Reed of Newport; and 10 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Church. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Bennie F. Adams, 67, of Glencoe, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired caster with J.W. Harris Co., Cincinnati. His two wives, Maryland Caldwell Adams and Edna June Gayhart Adams, preceded him in death. A son, Bennie Juan Adams, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Bill Richerson of Critttenden, Tim Richerson of Carrollton and Jeff Adams of Glencoe; daughters, Martha Sebring of Sparta, Dana Welleh and Susan Senger, both of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Myra Jeanette Hickman Barnette, 65, of Amelia, Ohio, died Tuesday at Mercy St. Theresa Center, Cincinnati. She was a teacher and a member of St. John Anglican Church, Dayton.
Survivors include her husband, William Barnette; a daughter, Virginia Anne Coffey of Gaithersburg, Md.; sons, James Gordon Wright of Antioch, Tenn., Jeffrey Lee Wright of Pegram, Tenn., and Kenneth Thomas Wright of Cadiz; a stepson, William Peter Barnette of Louisville; a stepsister, Judy Thomas Brayboy of Cadiz; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Audrey Hope Cross Barnes, 80, of Demossville, died Monday at her home. She was a retired bus driver with Kenton County Schools and a member of Morning View United Methodist Church. Her husband, Robert Dale Cross, died in 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Tanya Hazel Sorrell and Tamara Hope Gilvin, both of Demossville; a sister, Billie Bridges of Morning View; and five grandchildren.

Elmer Baumann, 86, of Unity Township, Pa., formerly of Newport, died March 31 at Latrobe, Pa., Area Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Adrena Baumann; daughters, Sandy Baumann of Adren Dee Cook; a son, Thomas Baumann; brothers, Wilbur Baumann of Wilder, Joseph Baumann of Zephyrhills, Fla., Edward Baumann of Loveland, Ohio, Howard Baumann of Robins, Ga., and Leonard Baumann of Alexandria; sisters, Rita Stone of Florence, Betty Verst of Highland Heights and Marian Rust of California; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Charlotte "June" Eckstine, 85, of Cold Spring, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Eckstine; daughters, Sharon Howard of Austele, Ga., and Linda Sonderman of Edgewood; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Crystal M. Eversole, 24, of Covington, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.

Alice E. Feldman, 92, of Newport, died at 11:15 p.m. Sunday at Highland Heights Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Henry Feldman, died in 1956.

Alberta King Gaunce, 89, of Bourbon County, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Lair Methodist Church, Bourbon County. Her husband, Walter Marshall Gaunce, a son, Charles Clay Gaunce, and a daughter, Dorothy Jean Fryman, all preceded her in death.

James W. Hall, 77, of Highland Heights, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired foreman with J.H. Rudolph Co. and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Lilly Mae, died in 1994.

Frances Taylor Hensley, 89, of Norwood, Ohio, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, Norwood. Her first husband, Raymond Hensley, and second husband, Buford Howard, both preceded her in death. A daughter, Alice Bishop, also preceded her in death.

June Lunsford Jones Kuper, 82, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired dietary supervisor with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. Her husband, Otto Kuper, preceded her in death.

William Wesley Mahorney, 89, of Burlington, died at 8:18 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired parts salesman with Cress's Tractor Supply and a former member of Hebron Masonic Lodge No. 757. His wife, Ella Mae Cave Mahorney, died in 2003. A son, John Mahorney, died in 1995.

Jay Hugh Moses, 81, of Latonia, died at 7:53 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired machine adjuster with Equitable Bag Co., Florence, and a member of Ashland Avenue First Church of God, Latonia. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
