Lola Mae Davis, devoted her life to teaching
The 89-year-old Williamstown native, who died Monday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown, retired after teaching for about 25 years with the Mount Healthy public schools.
She also taught in the Grant County schools.
She taught Sunday school in the Baptist churches at Williamstown, Mount Healthy and Dry Ridge, where she lived at various times in her life.
She also taught Sunday school classes after church at local nursing homes, Parkview Manor and Grant Manor.
As a member of Literacy for America, she taught adults how to read, sometimes in her own home.
She was a very intelligent person who did a lot of learning, said her longtime friend, Martha Miller of Moores Hill, Ind.
After graduating from Williamstown High School, Miss Davis earned a business degree at Curtis Commercial College in Covington. She worked for the Gibson Greeting Card Co. in Cincinnati, where she met Miller, for about six years.
When Miller married
and left the company, Miss Davis also left and worked in a bank in Northern Kentucky. But she soon tired of that, and went back to school.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree and a master of arts degree at Georgetown University. She later studied at Xavier University, the University of Cincinnati and Miami University in Oxford, as well as taking extension courses from Campbellsville University.
When she lived in Mount Healthy, she drove home on weekends to cook for her sister, Hazel Davis Acree, who had Parkinson's Disease. Acree died in 1973.
Miss Davis contracted Alzheimer's disease, and lived in Grant Manor for about five years before her death. She was 89.
She was "a very Christian person, period, " her friend said.
"She was a good person, and done so much good for the community and the churches, " Miller said.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Imogene Foltz, 73, of Crescent Springs, died Sunday at her home. She was the president and owner of Swan Lands Properties and a member of the Crescent Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Crescent Springs Baptist Church. Her husband, Stanley Foltz, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Butch Foltz of Crescent Springs, Calvin Foltz of Knightdale, N.C., and Randy Foltz of Erlanger; daughters, Diane Braun, Dolores Foltz and Doris Griffith, all of Crescent Springs, and Donna Foltz of Villa Hills; brothers, Lewis Davis and Robert Davis, both of West Virginia; sisters, Christine Schultz of Cincinnati, Norma Lawrence of Alexandria, Va., and Loretta Jahnke of Stanford, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Crescent Springs Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Diane Alice Gravett, 50, of Campton, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at her home. She was a secretary with Cincinnati Bell Telephone.
Survivors include a son, John Gravett of Florence, and a brother, James Schmitt of Brooksville.
Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Fort Thomas. Porter and Son Funeral Home, Campton, is handling arrangements.
Arkie Mae Jones, 71, of Walton, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope Church of God, Independence. Her husband, C.M. Jones, died in 2000. Children, Ricky Jones, Omalie Cox and Vicky Jones, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Jones of Walton; daughters, Sharon Evans of Alexandria and Reda Powers of Lake Worth, Fla.; brothers, Glenn Mullins of Detroit and Thomas Mullins of Pineville; sisters, Shirley Puff of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Nancy Judd of Graham, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.
Betty L. Moermond, 71, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with St. Luke Hospitals and Highland Hills Baptist Church. Her husband, Jack Moermond, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Mark Moermond of Cleveland and Kevin Moermond of Independence; a daughter, Donna Morgan of Highland Heights; a sister, Deloris Kennedy of Wilder; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Richard B. Straub, 43, of Lakeside Park, died Sunday at his home. He was disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Cheri Straub; a son, Richard Straub of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Alisha Straub of Lakeside Park; sisters, Roxanne Vonstroh and Michelle Straub, both of Newport, and Sonya Patrick of Latonia; brothers, Michael Straub and Greg Campbell, both of Newport, and Bruce Straub of California; and five grandchildren.

John Fred Sturdivant, 54, of Norwood, Ohio, died Thursday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was an insulation installer and M&D; Insulation, a member of Harlan County VFW Post No. 1178 and an Army veteran.
Survivors include a son, Shawn Sturdivant of Newport; a daughter, Temple Roark of Norwood; brothers, Charles Sturdivant of Tucson, Ariz., Ralph Sturdivant and Clifford Sturdivant, both of Florence, and Jerry Sturdivant of Morning View; a sister, Nancy Heilman of Latonia; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

David L. Wilson, 66, of Dunnellon, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Sunday, April 3, in Ocala, Fla. He was an employee of Spitz Propane Gas Co. and an Army veteran.
Survivors include a son, Tim Wilson of Harrogate, England; a daughter, Toni Carle of Park Hills; his stepmother, Mary Wilson of Florence; brothers, Bill Wilson of Florence and Dick Wilson of Hebron; sisters, Carol Haven of Petersburg and Darlene Moon of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
