Richard Schaub, 30-year Navy veteran
Asked what she would remember most about Richard C. Schaub, his daughter-in-law said, "How much he loved me."
"He wasn't real demonstrative, " Susan Crockett said. "But I knew it. I could see it. He was there for me when I needed him.
"He was a wonderful grandfather. He made my daughter toe the line, " said Crockett, of Covington.
Mr. Schaub, 71, who died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospital South, Edgewood, grew up in Dayton and graduated from high school there in 1950.
He joined the Navy and became a chief communications technician. He served for 30 years, during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Scotland, Japan, Panama, Germany and the South Pacific.
He had an anchor tattooed on one arm, and "mom and dad" tattooed on the other, his daughter-in-law said.
After he retired, he became a dispatcher for the Campbell County Police Department, until he retired in 1993.
He lived in Fort Thomas after his return from Navy duty, then moved to Southgate. For the past 18 months, he lived with his daughter-in-law in Covington.
Mr. Schaub was a past president of the Fleet Reserve Association Meade Branch, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Kersten O'Day Post 2899 in Dayton and American Legion Post No. 153.
He also belonged to many senior citizens groups, including the Silver Grove Belles and Bows.
He didn't have any hobbies, his daughter-in-law said, but he was an excellent cook -- mostly meat and potatoes dishes.
His wife, Jeannette Schaub, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Richard Schaub of Middleton, Tenn., and Philip Schaub of Maryland; a daughter, Vickie Richards of Maryland; stepsons, Herb Crockett of Wilder and Howard Crockett of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Georgiann Schrepfer of Florence, Connie Beiting of Fort Thomas and Starlene Kaeppel of Arizona; a sister, Ruth Schaub of Burlington; five grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial, Taylor Mill.
Bruce Edward Bonner, 66, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital South, Edgewood.
He was a pipefitter.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Bonner; sons, Michael Willis of Elsmere and Roderick Willis of Covington; a daughter, Deborah Hall of Elsmere; a brother, Robert Bonner of Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters, Lillian Johnson of Elsmere, Margie Finnell of Florence, Anna Hoskins of Cincinnati and Jane Cheatham of Radcliff; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mary E. Smith Cemetery, Elsmere.
Ovie Earl Ellison, 97, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at Villaspring Health Care Center, Erlanger.
He was a district foreman retired from Union Light Heat & Power and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church. His wife, Emma Lee Ellison, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Emery Earl Ellison of Avon Park, Fla., Larry R. Ellison of Port Orange, Fla. and James D. Ellison of Independence; daughters, Juanita Stephens and Joane Cook, both of Florence; a stepsister, Goldie Lawson of Cynthiana; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Short Creek Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Velma B. Green, 77, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice, Covington.
She was a retired insurance rater from Royal Globe Insurance, Cincinnati and a member of First Church of God, Latonia.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Green; a daughter, Paula New of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

Hazel Carolyn Meyer, 60, of Brooksville, died Thursday at her residence.
She was a homemaker and a member of Salem Wesleyan Church, Johnsville.
Survivors include brothers, Leonard Meyer of Winchester and Chester Meyer of Covington; and a sister, Marlene Frances St. Clair of Covington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.

Mary Parker Mulei, 56, of Covington, died Monday at her residence.
She was a telephone operator for the Answering Exchange.
Survivors include a son, Louis J. Mulei of Cincinnati; daughters, Rosemary Isbel of Covington and Molly Ghosthores of Cincinnati; her mother, Edna Moran Parker of Covington; a brother, Phillip Parker of California; sisters, Patricia Parker of Covington and Kay Coyle of Park Hills; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Augustine Church, Covington.
Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
William Anthony "Tony" Otter, 21, of Owenton, died Tuesday in a drowning at Thomas Lake, Owenton.
He was a member of Ghent Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, William "Bill" and Patricia Otter Jones of New Liberty; a daughter, Brianna Otter; a brother, Kenny Otter of New Liberty; and a sister, Annissa Otter of New Liberty.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ghent Second Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Main Street location, Owenton, and at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Elizabeth "Jewell" Pope, 51, of Erlanger, died Monday at her residence.
She was disabled. A daughter, Amanda Pope, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her mother, Margaret Tomlinson of Erlanger; a son, Ron Pelfry of Erlanger; daughters, Stephanie Serra and Ashley Pope, both of Falmouth; a brother, Randy Tomlinson of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Sharon McCracken and Dianna Naugle, both of Erlanger; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Central Church of Nazarene, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Friday.

She was a homemaker, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member and Sunday school teacher at Hopeful Lutheran Church, Florence.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hopeful Lutheran Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, and at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence.

Howard Ervin West, 75, of Brooksville, died Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Hospital, Maysville.
He was a farmer. Sons, Danny West and Stevie West, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Ricky West of Brooksville; daughters, Betty Schmitt and Beverly Workman, both of Brooksville, Dolly Moore and Alice West, both of Mount Olivet, and Phyllis Tipton of Moraine, Ohio; a sister, Ruth Campbell of Orlando Fla.; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Brooksville.

Randall Brian Wuilleumier, 41, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital South, Edgewood.
He was disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Wuilleumier; a son, Ryan Wuilleumier; a daughter, Amber Wuilleumier; his father, Rudolph Wuilleumier of Richmond; his mother, Rosemarie Wuilleumier of Dallas, Texas; his grandmother, Elizabeth Schulte of Erlanger; and a brother, Russell Wuilleumier of Newport.
