Nicholas Iacobucci, owned Newport night clubs

Nicholas "Nick" Anthony Iacobucci owned nightclubs in Newport from the 1950s through the 1990s -- and especially relished the early years when clubs bustled with customers.

"In those days, we were busy all night. You had to let two people out to let two people in, " he recalled in a 1991 interview with The Kentucky Post.

Mr. Iacobucci, 90, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

He owned the Bourbon Street, LaMadames and Talk of the Town night clubs in Newport.

"He was one of the last of the old-style club operators, " said Mr. Iacobucci's wife of 45 years, Betty Ziegler Iacobucci. "He brought the best out-of-town strippers to his clubs."

"Nightclubs were his life, " said Mr. Iacobucci's daughter, Niko Iacobucci of Fort Thomas. "He loved to operate clubs and loved to hang out with the people who came to them."

Mr. Iacobucci began operating the Bourbon Street in the late 1950s, LaMadames in the early 1960s and the Talk of the Town in the early 1970s.

The Newport club scene began changing in 1982, when the Newport City Commission adopted an ordinance that required dancers to wear pasties and G-strings at clubs that sold alcohol.

For Mr. Iacobucci, the end of nude dancing at clubs where liquor was sold meant the end of an era of a free-wheeling nightlife crowd.

"This town could be another New Orleans if they knew how. But if the city don't want it, you can't do it, " he lamented to The Kentucky Post in 1991, near the end of his career.

Mr. Iacobucci was an especially kind-hearted man who made generous donations to charities and was devoted to his daughter, said his wife.

"Niko meant everything in the world to him, " she said.

He also loved his dogs. "He always had poodles and Yorkies, but now we just have mutts, " said his daughter.
