Donna L. Beard, 56, a loving grandmother
Donna L. Bryan Beard was a woman who resisted the idea of being a grandmother, but quickly warmed to the role after her first grandchild was born.
"She fought becoming a grandmother until she became one. She said, "I don't want to be a grandmother yet, before she got started. And now we've got five of 'em, " said her husband of 37 years, Ronald Beard.
"Once you put that baby in those grandma's arms, that's it, " he said.
Mrs. Beard, 56, of Perry Park died Friday.
She was a retired dispatcher clerk for Cincinnati Bell, where she worked for more than 20 years. She was a longtime member of the Covington Turners and the Perry Park Ladies Association and was a golfer.
She was also a member of the Cincinnati Doowoop Association.
"We were music fans, we grew up with the music, " Ronald Beard said. "She listened and sang the music. She always had a smile on her face."
Mr. Beard described his wife as caring woman.
"She was vivacious. She was always taking care of someone else, always looking out for someone else before herself, " he said. "She loved her family and her grandchildren."
Survivors in addition to her husband are sons, Bryan Beard of Latonia, Ronald Beard Jr. of Park Hills and Glenn Beard of Covington; her mother, Nina Glacken Bryan of Hooven, Ohio; a brother, David Bryan of Hooven; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, Ga. 30368. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Florence Catherine Canfield, 82, of Florence, died Sunday at her residence. She was a housewife.
Survivors include sons, Marvin Lee Canfield of Edgewood, Clarence David Canfield and Timothy Charles Canfield, both of Covington; daughters, Lois Ann Johnson of Elsmere, Bonnie Sue Canfield and Sue Ann Canfield, both of Florence; sisters, Nellie Hardy of Covington and Carol Sandiford of Elsmere; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services and visitation were Tuesday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Isaac Deaton, 82, of Latonia, died Tuesday at his residence.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Thelma Lee Franz, 80, of Ludlow, died Sunday at her daughter's residence. She was a retired seamstress. Her husband, George Andrew Franz, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Aloma Williams of Ludlow; a sister, Bernett Randel of Burlington; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis, Tenn. 38173.
Dorothy Guckiean, 100, of Cincinnati, died Monday at Scarlet Oaks Retirement Community, Cincinnati. She was a retired teacher from Cincinnati Public Schools. Her husband, Ernest T. Guckiean, preceded her in death.
Survivors include several nephews and nieces.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Annunciation Church, Cincinnati. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Maryknoll Sisters, P.O. Box 310, Maryknoll, N.Y. 10545. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling the arrangements.
Carl W. Gulley, 81, of Latonia, died Monday at Cincinnati Veterans Hospital. He was a retired paper cutter from Shearer-Bauer Co., Cincinnati, a security guard for various companies, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Church of God, Latonia. His wife, Christine Ferguson Gulley, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, David Gulley and Steven Gulley, both of Latonia; a brother, Shirley Gulley of Cincinnati; a sister, Alberta Minning of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Andrew Herald, 76, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired machinist from Safeguard Co., Covington, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662, Newport.
Survivors include sons, Michael Herald of Covington, Jeffrey Herald of Cincinnati, Steve Herald, Andrew Herald Jr., Andrew Craig, and Daniel Craig, all of Newport; a brother, Vaughn Herald of Lexington; three sisters, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Catherine S. Jordan Hartman McCoy, 68, of Florence, died Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was retired from John W. Galbraith Cleaning Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington. Her first husband, John Hartman, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, James McCoy of Covington; sons, John Hartman Jr. of Falmouth, George Hartman of Fort Myers, Fla., David Hartman of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Chris Hartman of Atwood, Paul Hartman of Independence, Mike Hartman of Hebron, Joe Hartman and Danny Hartman, both of Piner; daughters, Victoria Hartman of Fort Myers, Fla., Lisa Hartman of Crestview Hills, and Connie Hartman of Covington; a brother, Pat Jordan of Butler; sisters, Bonita Bowman of Falmouth and Margie Jones of Covington; 30 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Lee Williams Martin, 78, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was retired from Potter's Shoe Store in Cincinnati and Florence and Sunny Acres Day Care Center, Latonia. She was a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, Latonia. Her husband, Dudley Martin, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Dudley Martin Jr. of Edgewood; daughters, Rebecca Humphrys of Alexandria, Sandra Lovell of Carefree, Ariz., Victoria Casson and Gertrude Bauer, both of Taylor Mill; sisters, Audrey Hudgins of Worthville and Charlotte Angel of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles Wesley Robertson, 82, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at his residence. He was a retired agent from the federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Cincinnati, and a member of American Legion Post No. 243, Oviedo, Fla., and Masonic Lodge No. 87, Lebanon. His wife, Jean Jones Robertson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Connie Lawson of Lebanon and Patty Weaver of Walton; brothers, Ed Robertson of Louisville and Larry Robertson of Frankfort; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati. Entombment will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to any chapter of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Association. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Robert Lee Strasinger, 75, of Cincinnati, died Saturday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired loader from Tressler Oil Co. His daughter, Terri L. Dempers, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Patty A. Strasinger Whissel of Cincinnati; brothers, Donald R. Strasinger, William Strasinger, and Irvin Strasinger, all of Kentucky; a sister, Janet Braun of Taylor Mill; and two grandchildren.
There is no service scheduled. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Paul R. Young Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Patricia Ann Turner, 64, of Covington, died Sunday. She was a retired property manager at various apartment complexes in Cincinnati. Her first husband, James Manning, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bobby" Turner of Loretto, Tenn.; a son, Dean Manning of London; a daughter, Carla Manning of Covington; special friends, Anne Richter, Joan Goodridge, and Lanny "Butch" Goodridge, all of Covington, and Pvt. Chelsea Kim Choy stationed in Aberdeen, Md.
Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. todayat St. Ann Catholic Church, Covington. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately after the service, at approximately noon.

Elizabeth Wallingford, 91, of Maysville, died Monday at her residence. She was a retired teacher from Maysville High School, a member of First Christian Church, Maysville, and a Mason County Frontiersman. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, American Columnist, Washington Study Club, Mason County Historical Society, University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include a cousin, Dr. Glenn M. Weaver, of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brell & Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Washington Baptist Cemetery, Maysville.
