WHITEWATER [KANSAS] INDEPENDENT, 21 March 1935
Obituary of Dr. HARRISON HURT NORRIS
Harrison Hurt Norris, son of William H. (1822-1909) and Lucy Ann (Logan) (1826-1885) Norris, was born December 4, 1861, in Morehead (now Rowan Co.) Ky.
When he was 9 years of age he moved with his parents to Peabody (Marion Co.), KS. He attended the public schools in both Peabody and Florence (KS) after which he became interested in the study of medicine and attended Electic Medical College, Cincinnati, OH, where he was graduated in 1885.
After graduation Dr. Norris located in Annelly (Butler Co.), KS. When Whitewater was founded, he located here where he has served this community for the last fifty years with the exception of the years 1891 to 1898 when he practiced medicine in Prairie du Sac, Wisc.
He married on May 16, 1889, in Whitewater to Edith Anna Kirkwood. To this union three children were born, E. Roland and Robert K., twins, and Edith Marie Norris.
He was a member of the Federated Church of Whitewater and was always active in church work. He was also very much interested in the welfare of the community and had served at various times on the school board in Whitewater.
He was also a member of the Harvey County Medical Society which organization he had served as president and was always active in the society, seldom missing their meeting.
Besides his widow, he is survived by his daughter, Edith, now Mrs. C. Milton Gray of Woodward, Okla., and his son, Robert K. Norris of Oklahoma City, Okla., Roland having passed away on March 26, 1929.
Dr. Norris was 73 years of age at the time of his death March 17, 1935. He was one of a family of twelve children, nine sons (John H. Norris 1846-1885) (William F. Norris 1850-bef 1909) (James W. Norris abt 1854-bef 1909) (Harry S. Norris abt 1856-bef 1933) (unk Norris 1858-1858) (Unk N. Norris 1861-bef 1909) (Luther N. Norris 1864-1873) (Granville Ray Norris 1867-1933) & Harrison Hurt Padgett) and three daughters (Margaret Ann Norris Padgett 1848-1880) (Manerva J. Norris 1859-1882) (Betty A. Norris Cunningham abt 1872-bef 1933). Since the death of his brother, Dr. G. R. (Granville Ray) Norris, Burlington, Kan., May 31, 1933, he has been the last surviving member of this large family.
The funeral service was held at the Federated Church at 2:30 Monday afternoon under charge of Rev. Mr. R. L. Hendrickson. Interment was made in the Whitewater Cemetery.
Among the relatives attending the funeral of Dr. H. H. Norris Tuesday afternoon were, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Gray (daughter) of Woodward, Okla., Robert W. Norris (son) of Oklahoma City, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Kirkwood, Mr. and Mrs. John Kirkwood and Mrs. Willa Hoosier of Wichita, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Kirkwood and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kirkwood of El Dorado, Mrs. G. R. Norris of Burlington, Kan., Mildred and Robert Norris of Wichita, Manson Padgett (nephew) of Greenleaf, Kan., Rusaw Padgett (nephew) of Peabody, and Mr. Padgett (probably brother to ex-brother-in-law) of Marion.

William H. Norris
William H. Norris was born in Bath Co., KY April 4, 1822, died in Peabody, KS, March 12, 1909, age 86 yrs. 11 months, 8 days. February 20, 1845 he was united in marriage to Lucy Ann Logan, and to their home came twelve children, nine sons and three daughters, but five sons and two daughters have gone to the home beyond. When the civil war broke out Mr. Norris bade wife and children good-bye and hastened to answer his country's call enlisting as 1st Lieut., Co. F. 24th KY Vols. In Oct 1861 and among other engagements he was in the bloddy battle of Shiloh the following spring.
His health failed, however and he was compelled to resign his commission and was mustered out of service within a year afer his enlistment.
In 1871 Mr. Norris came to Kansas, and settled near Peabody where his wife died March 30, 1885. Twenty-two yers ago he removed to Peabody and has made this his home ever since. Nov. 14, 1892 he was married to Mrs. Hilda Kelsheimer who has proven a faithful comapnion to the end. In his boyhood days he became a Christian. For more than a quarter of a century he has been an elder in the church. About three years ago he passed through a severe illness from which he never fully recovered, and when on last Monday, he was stricken with paralysis, the family knew the messanger had come, but not until Friday -- here the copy is not readable, then picks up with more -- Dr. Granville R. Burlington, KS and Mrs. Betty A. Cunningham of Harper, there remain thirty grandchildren, many great grand-children and one great great grand child, Eldon Earl Bailey, to cherish his memory.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Saturday at 4 PM conducted by Elder Spencer and the ramains were laid to rest with the G.A.R honers. A general thank you from the family followed, and was signed as follows: G. R. Norris, H. H. Norris, H. S. Norris, Mrs. B. A. Cunningham & J. H. Norris.

William Logan
William Marshall Logan, 72, of Warnock, died Tuesday at his home.
Mr. Logan was born July 2, 1928, in Greenup County, a son of the late James Blaine and Gladys Plummer Floyd Logan.
A Korean War veteran, he was retired from the Kentucky State Parks.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Bowling Logan; a daughter, Libby Ann Logan Russell of Danville; a brother, Forrest ``Sonny" Logan of Warnock; and a sister, Anna Lois Patton of Russell; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore by Kail Ruftner, minister. Burial will follow in the Hall-Logan cemetery in Warnock.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to time of funeral Thursday at the funeral home.

William Logan, 72
William Marshall Logan, 72, of Warnock, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at home.
He was born July 2, 1928, in Greenup County, Ky., a son of the late James Blaine Logan and Gladys Plummer Floyd Logan. He retired from the Kentucky State Parks and was a Korean War veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Bowling Logan; one daughter, Libby Ann Logan Russell of Danville, Ky.; one brother, Forest "Sonny" Logan of Warnock; one sister, Anna Lois Patton of Russell, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Ray Floyd; and one sister, Ethel Burgess.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky., with Kail Ruftner, minister, officiating, and interment in Hall-Logan Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

WHEELERSBURG - William O. Logan, 63, of Wheelersburg, was pronounced dead on arrival Sunday at Mercy Hospital.
A native of Logan, W. Va., he was a retired Empire-Detroit Steel Corp. employee.
Surviving are a son, Dallas of Franklin Furnace Rt. 1; a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Cremeans of South Shore, Ky.; a stepson, Dan McCleese of Grove City; four brothers, Oran and James, both of Garrison, Ky., and Clyde and Marvin, both of Mansfied, three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Litton of New Boston, Mrs. Evelyn Adams of Lucasville, and Mrs. Elizabeth Billings of Portsmouth, and six grandchildren.
Services are planned at 10 a.m. Thursday at Don Wolfe Funeral Home at Sciotoville, with interment in Memorial Burial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Elmer Loop, 68, equipment operator
Elmer R. Loop, 68, of Wheelersburg, died Sunday, March 23, 1997, at home
Born Jan. 3, 1929, in Scioto County, a son of the late Jake Loop and Grace Horner Loop, he was a retired heavy equipment operator and member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Union Local and a member of Mount Hope Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Hilery Irene Neff Loop, who he married July 23, 1949, in Wheelersburg; a daughter, Mrs. Ed (Terry) Claxon of Wheelersburg; a brother, Ernest Loop of Sciotoville; four sisters, Roberta Allen, Lucille Howard and Bertha Adams, all of Sciotoville, and Gladys Powers of Wheelersburg; and two grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Loop.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville, with the Rev. Roger Lavender officiating, and interment in Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Loop
Jake Loop, 79 of Highland Bend, Sciotoville Rt. 4, died Monday at Best Care Nursing Home.
A native of Carter Co., Ky., he was a retried construction worker and member of Highland Bend Christian Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Gracie Horner Loop; two sons, Elmer of Wheelersburg and Ernest of Sciotoville; four daughters, Mrs. Lucile Howard, 1115 Castle St., Sciotoville, Mrs. Roberta Allen, 5931 Woodland, Sciotoville, Mrs. Bertha Adams of Mabert Rd. and Mrs. Gladys Crisp 1313 Summit St.; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Gifford of Quincy, Ky.; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are planned to 2 p.m. Thursday at Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville, with Revs. David Widdig and Malcom Akers officiating and interment in Vernon Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 tonight.

Charles Loptien
Charles Austin 'Chuck' Loptien, 67, passed away at Putnam Community Medical Center Monday evening, April 17, 2000.
Born in Russell, Kentucky, he was a resident of the Crescent City area for the past ten years coming from Atlantic Beach. He was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpman and a veteran of the Korean War and World War II. He was also retired from the City of Jacksonville with the Health Department. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association in Jacksonville, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Crescent City and the American Legion at large. As an avid golfer, he also enjoyed membership with the Live Oak Golf and Country Club in Fruitland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and the mother of his children, Edna Loptien.
He is survived by his wife, June Loptien of Crescent City; son, Terrance Loptien of Oxford, Miss.; daughters, Cynthia Reeves of San Bruno, Calif., Marietta Loptien of Duluth, Ga., and Delyne Moore of Melbourne; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Brian Eburn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Johns Catholic cemetery in Crescent City. Military honors to be accorded by the Jacksonville Naval Honor Guard. Active pallbearers are Michael Moore, Neil Johnson, Charley Tulley, Joe Leib, Danny Jenkins, Pepe Rodriguez.
Visitation was held Wednesday evening, April 19, at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. with Vigil service starting at 6 p.m.
At the family's request those who wish may make contributions to the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, Box E, New York, New York 10021.
Clayton Frank & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Inez L. Lord Died in Texas
Was Sister of Mrs. F. M. Jenkins, Of Ashland
Mrs. Inez Logan Lord died at her home at Fort Worth, Texas, yesterday, according to word received her this morning.
Mrs. Lord was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John M. Logan. She was born and spent her early childhood at Kilgore, Ky., and was united in marriage to Dr. John Lord in 1907. Together they spent five years as missionaries in the Philippine Islands under the sponsorship of the Christian church.
Mrs. Lord had been a resident of Fort Worth for the past eighteen years where her husband had served on the faculty of Texas Christian University.
She is survived by her husband and three sisters, Mrs. F. M. Jenkins of Ashland; Mrs. Aileen Steinbach of Seattle, Wash; and Mrs. Eugenia Ellison of Chicago, Ill. One brother, Judge Charles W. Logan of Louisville, Ky., also survives.
Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at Fort Worth. Burial will be made at Morehead, Ky., Sunday afternoon.

Lowder
Funeral Service for Clarence E. Lowder, 76, of Dayton, formerly of York, Ky., is 1 p.m. Saturday, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore, Ky.
He died Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mary Teer of Dayton, following a long illness.
A retired farmer, he was a member of Sciotoville Church of Christ and Greenup (Ky.) Masonic Lodge.
His wife Mrs. Niria Lowder, died in 1978.
Surviving are a son, William M. of Springfield, Va.; another daughter, Nancy Berg of Yellow Springs; a brother Elva of Windham; a sister Mettie Burchett of Minford; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
J. W. Holcomb, minister is to officiate at the service, with interment in Granny Thomas Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Masonic service is planned there at 7:30 tonight.
