Shawn Brummer, an inspiration to family
Even though he was 29 years old, Shawn H. Brummer still got an Easter basket from his mother, and he loved it.
"He loved to celebrate the holidays" when his family came together, said his sister, Stephanie Brummer of Florence.
Mr. Brummer, who died early Thursday morning in an accident on his motorcycle, was the older brother, the one his sisters could count on. They were a close family that depended upon each other, his sister said.
"He was our inspiration and our strength. He was the one that always made us feel safe. He was a pretty protective big brother, " Stephanie Brummer said. "He was always the one we would go to for comfort and security."
He had his own house in Florence, but frequently dropped by his mother's house in Florence. He talked to her every day -- in person, on the phone or via e-mail.
His family helped him take care of his own little girl, Brianna D. Brummer, 8, a student at Ockerman Elementary School. He was always playing with her, taking her places, helping her with her homework, or reading to her, his sister said.
"Make sure you say how much he loved his little girl, " she said.
A native of Florence, Mr. Brummer graduated from Boone County High School in 1993. He worked as a supervisor of information technology operations at Cinergy in Cincinnati, and was in an accelerated learning program, working toward his master's degree in business at Thomas More College.
He took a great interest in keeping himself fit. He worked out with his friends and work buddies, and was involved in the Body-for-LIFE program.
Mr. Brummer was always very interested in motorcycles and cars, his sister said. His father, Jon Brummer of Florence, helped him build a car. The day before his death, he had just brought home a new speedboat.
"He was definitely a free spirit, " his sister said. "He loved to go from place to place and have a good time."
