Husband Follows His Wife In Death
Just a few hours after his beloved wife had dropped dead suddenly, George Lowder, prominent merchant of Quincy, Ky., passed into the Great Beyond, Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock. Death was due to pneumonia fever, with which he had been ill for several days, but it is thought that the shock of his wife's sudden death hastened the end. Worry over her husband's illness is thought to have brought on the attack of heart failure which caused Mrs. Lowder's death also.
Mr. Lowder was one of the most prominent men of Quincy, and had been identified with its growth of the past several years. He was a consistent booster for Quincy, while his reputation for honesty and fair dealing in business extended for miles around in every direction. He and his wife were very devoted to each other and formed an ideal couple, greatly respected in that community. Mr. Lowder had many friends in Portsmouth, who will be grieved to learn of his demise.
Mrs. and Mrs. Lowder are survived by seven children, Harry W. of Elk Valley, Tenn., J. M. and Jasper D. both living at home, the latter's former representative of Lewis county in the Kentucky legislature; and George, now in the United States army; Mrs. Emma Vanbiber of Leatherwood, Ky., Mrs. Mollie Willis of Garrison, Ky., and Mrs. Tilda Felty of Tygart, Ky.
A double funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock at the Quincy Christian church in charge of Rev. Moore and the Quincy Lodge of Masons. Interment will be in the Thomas Cemetery, seven miles back of Quincy. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lowder were devout members of the Christian church, by which their loss will be keenly felt.
