Edna C. Boberg, switchboard operator
Her niece will remember Edna C. Boberg as a very loving and giving person, one who could never do enough for her.
"She never wanted to put anyone out, " said Kathy Crail of Fort Wright.
Ms. Boberg, who died Wednesday at 90 at St. Elizabeth Hospice, was a switchboard operator retired from Western & Southern Life Insurance Co.
She lived with her sister, Crail's mother, in Covington when Crail was growing up and served as a kind of second mother to her. She had no children of her own.
"Whenever there was a family gathering, a family affair, she was right there with us, " Crail said. "She helped raise the kids and take care of them."
Last fall, with her health declining, she left her home in Fort Mitchell and moved in with Crail's daughter.
When she was healthy, Ms. Boberg spent lots of time at the Baker-Hunt Foundation, a Covington arts and culture center.
She also volunteered at the St. Charles Care Center Village and Lodge in Fort Wright.
She never learned to drive, so she took the bus everywhere. She walked to Mass regularly at Blessed Sacrament Church, but when she developed breathing problems later in life, she hopped on the bus for the two-block trip from her home to the church.
