Dorothy Finnell, 78, traveled the world
Dorothy Charles Finnell spent her lifetime traveling the world with her late husband, Everett, but planted her roots in Covington as an avid bingo player and a city poll worker.
"She used to love to go to bingo, " said her daughter, Dawn Gary.
"She ended up doing a lot of traveling."
Mrs. Finnell, an American Indian, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She was 78.
A homemaker and member of the Covington Voters' League, Mrs. Finnell also worked at the voting polls for several years before her death.
She and her husband had 10 children, and traveling the world while he was in the Air Force.
They lived abroad in Germany and in various places in the U.S. before settling down in Covington.
Her husband, Everett Finnell, parents William and Eunice Payne, and daughters Dawn E. Finnell and Dollene Sampson preceded her in death.
Mrs. Finnell is survived by sons Daune Finnell of Omaha, Neb., Darryl Finnell and Derek Finnell of Erlanger, Damon Finnell of Covington, and Drecc Finnell of Kansas City; daughters Delece Finnell of Kansas City, Denise Finnell and Dawn Gary of Covington; brothers John Payne of Tucson, Ariz., and Frank Payne of Cincinnati, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lane Chapel CME Church in Covington.
Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Linden Grove cemetery in Covington.
Jones, Simpson and Gee Funeral Home in Covington is handling the arrangements.

Stephen Madewell, 57, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

Mildred "Millie" Grothaus Schiesler, 75, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a mail processor with Disabled American Veterans, and a member of Bellevue Lions and St. Catherine of Siena Seniors, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Joseph Schiesler, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Joe Schiesler and Jim Schiesler, both of Cincinnati, Michael Schiesler of Jesup, Ga., and Jeff Schiesler of Fort Thomas; daughter, Carol Schoonover of Covington and Nancy Harmeyer of Fort Thomas; brothers, Roman Grothaus of Modesto, Calif., Len Grothaus and Donald Grothaus, both of Cold Spring, Vernon Grothaus of Fort Thomas, and Norbert Grothaus of Milford, Ohio; sisters, Laverne Simon of Englewood, Ohio, and Mary Schmitz of Bellevue; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Friday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Barbara Ellen Kuntz Worthington, 86, of Newport, died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford Worthington; a daughter, Bonnie Bauer of Alexandria; a sister, Helen Kindell of Indiana; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
