Raymond Gerner, 78, veteran, businessman
While serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, Raymond Edward Gerner fell in love -- with electronics.
He was a radio operator and repair technician in the service, and when he came home he opened and operated his own TV sales and repair store.
Mr. Gerner, 78, of Cold Spring, who died Wednesday at his home, spent 43 years running Gerner's TV and Appliance Store in Newport, and expanded it to Florence and Fort Mitchell.
"He worked his way up, " said Barbara Hughes Gerner, his wife.
After retiring in 1986, he sold his store, he and his wife moved to Venice, Fla. They split time between there and Lake Lorelei, Ohio.
He loved to golf and fish.
"He really enjoyed it, " Barbara Hughes said of her husband's retirement. "Back and forth every year."
Mr. Gerner was a civic-minded individual.
He was a member of St. Mary's Seniors, Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus, and a former member of Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662, Newport.
He earned a Purple Heart in the war.
Through all of his activities, he always found time for his family. He really loved his five daughters. They were "his girls, " his wife said
"They were the loves of his life, " Barbara Gerner said "He would say: 'I'll take girls every day.'"
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gerner is survived by daughters, Diane Feldman of Fort Thomas, Debbie Rottman of Cold Spring, Dona Brown of Delhi Township, Ohio, Dana Gerner of Southgate and Tammy Brautigan of Highland Heights; a sister, Rita Runyon of Fort Thomas; and 11 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas, followed by prayers. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

John "Jack" Ackerman, 68, of Taylor Mill, died at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a pressman with Dynagraphics in Norwood, Ohio, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Peg Lang Ackerman; a son, Thomas J. Ackerman of Covington; daughters, Peggy Fleisch and Amy Marie Ackerman, both of Cincinnati, and Jill Kathleen Perriman of Independence; a brother, Donald Ackerman of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Joan Pohlman Bedinghaus of Deer Park, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Anna E. Chadwell, 96, of Williamstown, died Thursday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

Todd Raymond Dezell, 44, of Ludlow, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Mary Stanfield England, 83, of Erlanger, died Thursday at her home. She was founder of Dixie News Distributing Co. Her husband, Clarence England, a daughter, Patricia England, and son, Bruce England, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Joan Nordloh of Edgewood, Mary Kotzbauer of Union and Cathie Stapleton of Edgewood; sons, James England and David England, both of Union; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Eva Estes, 100, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. Her husband, George W. Estes, died in 1978. A son, Raymond Wilson, and daughter, Kathleen Wilson, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Thelma Baker of Fort Thomas and Marie Brock of Cold Spring; a sister, Ethel Brewer of Booneville; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Albert H. Hartmann, 86, of Latonia, died at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired employee of the Coca-Cola Co. and the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia, the church 50 Plus Club and Tin Can Navy Group. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Helen E. Hill Hartmann; a daughter, Carol Muench of Edgewood; a son, Robert L. Hartmann of Latonia; a sister, Betty Johnston of Erlanger; brothers, Norbert Hartmann of Covington and Robert A. Hartmann of Fort Wright; and a grandson.

Leona Mae Keeton, 95, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, James Clark Keeton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Georgana Taylor Drake and Peggy Northcutt Perry, both of Cynthiana; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Ella Sally Kottmyer, 55, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at her home. She was disabled.
Survivors include her husband, Charles "Bud" Kottmyer; a daughter, Marcella Moore of Morning View; a brother, Depew Sally of Independence; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Stephen A. Madewell, 57, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was an assistant vice president with PNC Bank, Cincinnati, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Madewell; sons, Chris Lockhart of Covington and Andy Madewell of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, William Madewell and James Madewell, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Shirley Giancola of Newport, Rene Stanley of Southgate and Mary Ann Noe of Cincinnati; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Howard "Piddle" O'Banion, 79, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
He was a former Dry Ridge mayor, owner of O.S. Department Store in Dry Ridge and a truck driver with Huey Motor Express, Cincinnati.
He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 100 and Dry Ridge Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Toole O'Banion; a son, Howard Wayne O'Banion of Batavia, Ohio; daughters, Carol Jean Rogers of Dry Ridge, Diane West of Williamstown and Robin Mullikin of Greenwood, Ind.; a brother, Steve O'Banion of Dry Ridge; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert George Perraut, 75, of Maysville, died Wednesday at his home.
He was a retired employee of General Motors Corp. and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville.
A son, James Perraut, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Perraut Jr. of Atlanta; a sister, Alma Ackerman of Fleming County; brothers, Fred Perraut of Maysville, James Perraut of Aberdeen, Ohio, and Bill Perraut of Fleming County; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.

Sylvia Ann Ruh Rassche, 53, of Lakeside Park, died Wednesday at her home.
She was a leasing agent with Eagle Creek Apartments, Independence.

Joseph E. Sargent, 71, of Verona, died Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a retired lead mechanic with Delta Airlines, a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Verona and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Kenley Sargent; a daughter, Jackie Mastin of Walton; sons, Rickey D. Sargent of Warsaw and Mike Sargent of Georgetown; sisters, Garnetta Penn and Dorothy Duncan, both of Georgetown; brothers, Norvel Sargent of Georgetown and James Sargent of Reno, Nev.; and eight grandchildren.

Ella Catherine Breeck Supplee, 85, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Green Valley Health Care Center, Carrollton.
She was a retired cashier with McIntyre Market Basket, Carrollton, and a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church in Carrollton, where she was a member of the women's mission group.
Her husband, Jack Supplee Sr., died in 1992.
A daughter, Helen "Junie" Grobmeier, and a son, Fred Allen Supplee, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Jack Supplee of Lexington, Jimmy Supplee, Jon Supplee and Jerry Supplee, all of Carrollton; sisters, Roberta Ingram of Vernon, Ind., and Betty Stewart of North Vernon, Ind.; a brother, Bernie Breeck of Madison, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Melvin P. Wright, 62, of Florence, died at 10:41 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was an ironworker with International Association of Ironworkers Union Local No. 44, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
His wife, Shirley Mae Fink Wright, died March 20.
Survivors include a son, Melvin J. Wright; stepsons, Daniel J. Schoberg of Berry, David W. Schoberg of Independence, John H. Schoberg and James A. Schoberg, both of Union; two grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren.

Roger L. Yates, 58, of Dryden, Va., formerly of Cynthiana, died Sunday at his home. He was a coal miner.
His first wife, Josephine Yates, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Yates; a stepdaughter, Krystal Anderson of Georgetown; stepsons, Robert Anderson and Christopher Bell, both of Georgetown, and Shaun Anderson of Cynthiana; a brother, Tony Yates of Pennington Gap, Va.; sisters, Loretta Gail Smith of Coeburn, Va., Glenda L. Ellis, Lisa Kennedy and Rita Jean Hale, all of Clenchport, Va.; and five step-grandchildren.
