Lee F. Pieper, veteran and beloved milkman
Lee F. Pieper took time to chat with people as he delivered milk, and because of it was one of the best-liked milkmen in Northern Kentucky.
"It took him a long time to complete his milk route because he loved to talk with the customers, " recalled Mr. Pieper's daughter-in-law, Judy Pieper of Erlanger.
"Customers liked him for that and as a result he received all kinds of gifts and presents from his customers, " she said. "They enjoyed him, and he enjoyed them."
Mr. Pieper, 86, of Florence died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
He was a milk deliveryman with Clover Leaf Dairy from the 1950s through the 1970s and later worked at Turfway Park.
Mr. Pieper, an Army veteran of World War II, was a member of St. Paul Church in Florence and belonged to the Elsmere Senior Citizens.
His wife, Dorothy Pieper, preceded him in death.
"He was wonderful socially, " said Mrs. Pieper. "He had a twinkle in his eye and was a great kidder. He was a charming and wonderful man.
"He was very active in his church, where he ushered and led the Rosary.
"He spent a lot of time with his children and grandchildren and instilled a good work ethic in them."
Mr. Pieper enjoyed all sports and was a big fan of the Reds and Bengals.
His hobbies included working crossword puzzles and playing bingo and cards.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Biedenharn of Erlanger and Marla Kelly of Florence; sons, Jerry Pieper and Tim Pieper, both of Florence, Ken Pieper of Erlanger, Michael Pieper of Cincinnati and Rev. Tom Pieper of Dayton, Ohio; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Church, Florence.
Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Monday.
Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

William Boles, 72, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Louise Collins Crawford, 57, of Germantown, died Wednesday at her home. She was a Head Start teacher and a member of Chatham Church of Christ. Her first husband, Frankie Collins, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Claude "Butch" Crawford; a daughter, Rae Jean Poe of Brooksville; sons, Donnie Collins and Jeff Collins, both of Germantown, and Ronnie Collins of Foster; sisters, Joyce Tuel and Margaret Watkins of Germantown and Sandy Mullikin of Brooksville; brothers, Jr. Linville of Germantown, Jimmy Dale Linville of Augusta and Quinton Earl Linville of Brooksville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chatham Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Myrna G. Gadawski, 65, of Ludlow, died Thursday at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Catherine Odessa Taylor Gaines, 75, of Williamstown, died Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a former nurse's aide with Grant County Hospital, Williamstown.
Survivors include her husband, Lillie Floyd Gaines; daughters, Sharon E. Rasnick of Hamilton, Ohio, Debra S. O'Der of Dry Ridge and Patricia E. Wade of Fairfield, Ohio; sons, Lewis E. Frith of Goshen, Ohio, Daryl C. Frith of Batavia, Ohio, Kenneth D. Frith of Covington and Timothy C. Frith of Milford, Ohio; sisters, Don Ella Altizer of Williamstown and Betty Smith of Manning, S.C.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.
Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery.
Hazel Taylor Kidd, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Everett Kidd, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Miss Marilyn Kidd of Fort Thomas and Denise Brindley of Addison, Ala.; sons, Devoys Kidd and Preston Kidd, both of Fort Thomas, and Johnny Kidd of Bellevue; brothers, Cotton Taylor, Grover Taylor and Raymond Taylor Jr., all of Cincinnati; sisters, Florence Smallwood, Violet McMillan and Vonda Mandish, all of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Virgil T. Marlow, 82, of Cold Spring, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired stationary fireman with Celotex, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Disabled American Veterans. Sons, Robert Marlow and Virgil Marlow, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Margery Gravitt Marlow; sons, Donald Marlow of Independence, Jeff Marlow of Cold Spring and Jerry Marlow of Dayton; daughters, Debbie Belew of Latonia, Pam Bosler of Fort Thomas, Sue Carmack of Dayton, Carol Gross of Florence and Cheryl Wissman of Pendleton County; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Alberta Marcella Robinson, 78, of Warsaw, died Wednesday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Robinson; a daughter, Anna Jean Snow of Warsaw; sons, Wayne Robinson and Jerry Robinson, both of Warsaw; a brother, Melvin Snow of Ghent; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Ghent.

Mary Ann Evansburg Taxel, 72, of Fairview, N.C., formerly of Lakeside Park, died Saturday at her home. She was a professional singer. Her husband, Stanley Taxel, died in 1995.
Survivors include a sister, Luella Bronesky of Edgewood, and niece, Carrie A. Schuler of Edgewood.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Sharon Gail Chasteen Walker, 51, of Lexington, died Wednesday in Lexington.
