Silvion Hopkins, 82, educator for 39 years
Silvion Hopkins was a dedicated teacher for 39 years, instructing students in the Cincinnati Public School system and in central Kentucky schools.
"He loved children, and the children loved him, " said Mr. Hopkins' wife of 59 years, Juanita Hopkins. "He liked teaching so much that he enjoyed teaching in summer school."
Mr. Hopkins, 82, of Burlington died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
He spent most of his career teaching science and also served as a principal.
Mr. Hopkins was an avid naturalist and outdoorsman.
"He was fascinated by how things in nature grew, " said Mrs. Hopkins. "He would stand still for 15 minutes, just looking at a tree. Friends would say, 'He's watching that tree grow.'
"Most people thought he was pretty well laid-back and easy-going. He had a wonderful personality and loved people."
Mr. Hopkins' hobbies included fishing and hunting.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school.
"He loved his church and was devoted to it, " said Mrs. Hopkins.
Other survivors include a son, S. Gregory Hopkins of Cincinnati; and brothers, Arnold Hopkins of Louisville and Thurman "Tom" Hopkins of San Angelo, Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Mary Margaret Rieheman Bertrand, 81, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas funeral home.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert E. Bertrand, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert R. Bertrand of Silverton, Ohio; a daughter, Margaret Kosik of Fayetteville, Ohio; and a sister, Rita Kersten of Highland Heights.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Evelyn Cook, 89, of Bellevue, died Saturday at Highland Heights Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker, a nurse's aide Madonna Manor in Villa Hills and a member of Sacred Heart Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Her husband, Everet Cook, and a daughter, Wanda Cook, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen McGowan of Liberty Township, Ohio; sons, Tom Cook of Iowa City, Iowa, and Fred Cook of Rantoul, Ill; a sister, Helen Meschendorf of Fort Thomas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Leroy Daley, 71, of Alexandria, died at 11:59 p.m. Saturday at his home. He was a retired manager with Woolworths Department Stores.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Eads; daughters, Toni Cheney and Lori Debrosse, both of Piqua, Ohio, Sherrie Collett of Bradford, Ohio, and Vickie Lee Steizner of Bloomington, Ind.; sisters, Naomi Blieill of Reading, Ohio, Shirley Strauss of Cincinnati and Mildred Thomer of Cold Spring; a stepson, Kenneth Eads Jr. of Alexandria; stepdaughters, Jennifer Albrecht of Liberty Township, Ohio, Tammy Eads of Cincinnati and Pam Miller of Silver Grove; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Northern Kentucky Crematory, Walton.
Thelma Pell Glasscock, 94, of Augusta, died Saturday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Augusta Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the church Part Timers Club and served as a Bracken County election officer. Her husband, Leonard Glasscock, died in 1968.
Survivors include nieces, Eva Mae Bravard of Augusta, Peggy Claypool of Crittenden and Thelma Fay Warford of Clearwater, Fla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Augusta Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Bracken County. Joseph R. Knipp, 82, of Florence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired punch press operator with Glenway Sheet Metal Co., Cincinnati. His wife, Pauline Johnson Knipp, died in 1990. A son, Johnny Knipp, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Roy Knipp of Hebron, Douglas Knipp, Stephen Knipp and David Knipp, all of Florence, Jeff Knipp and Bill Knipp, both of Independence; brothers, John Knipp and William Knipp, both of Richmond, Ind.; sisters, Lucille Oney and Margaret Knipp, both of Olive Hill; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at First Christian Church, Olive Hill. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Garvin Ridge Cemetery, Olive Hill. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.
Dolores "Dodi" Jean Kuhlman, 71, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington.
Rita M. McAtee, 82, of Park Hills, died at 4 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright and the church Altar Society.
Her husband, Robert C. McAtee, died in 1986. A daughter, Lois Stephens, died in 2002.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Pieper of Florence, Connie Sorg and Cindy Berns, both of Fort Wright, Marcia Mills of Ludlow and Monica Finke of Park Hills; a son, Rob J. McAtee of Cincinnati; sisters, Rose Ayres of Cincinnati and Eunice Koch of Erlanger; a brother, Leo Riesenbeck of Cincinnati; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Floyd R. McClanahan, 88, of Williamstown, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.
He was a retired farmer, a member of Dry Ridge Christian Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a brother, Ralph McClanahan of Williamstown; sisters, Betty J. McClanahan and Stella Martin, both of Williamstown.

Bernard George Miller, 78, of Fort Thomas, died at 8:25 p.m. Saturday at his home.
He was a retired manager with Frisch's Restaurants, and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. He was also an employee of the Loyal Caf� in Bellevue. His wife, Dorothy Ann Miller, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Ann Noel of Covington, Beverly Susan May of Cincinnati and Linda Eileen Pressman of Villa Hills; sons, Larry B. Miller of Fort Thomas and Daniel G. Miller of Montana; a brother, Al "Babe" Miller of Fort Thomas; a sister, Dorothy "Sis" Young of Bellevue; and five grandchildren.

Michael "Mouse" Smith, 60, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Dry Ridge.
He was a farmer and a member of Knoxville Baptist Church in Williamstown and American Legion Post No. 137, Williamstown.
A daughter, Kim "Sweet Pea" Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Lisa Prince of Verona and Jenny Smith of Dry Ridge; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Susan Kay Rawlings Unger, 36, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at her home.
She as a cafeteria worker with Harrison County Middle School, and a member of Leesburg Christian Church and Cynthiana Elks Lodge No. 438.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Unger; a son, Derek Unger; a daughter, Brittany Unger; her parents, Bill W. and Donna Fay Rawlings of Harrison County; and a sister, Vickie Manion.
