Wanda Massey, passed love of music to family
Wanda Gorman Bellamy Massey passed on her love of music to all seven of her children.
Mrs. Massey, a singer, and her first husband, Samuel G. Gorman, a guitarist who died in 1978, taught all their children to sing and play instruments.
For years, the family sang hymns every Sunday afternoon and then enjoyed dinner together. They also would invite relatives and friends to watch them perform their "Christmas Jam" every year.
"We were a musical family, " said daughter Dixie M. Karas of Cincinnati. "We were just brought up in that environment."
Mrs. Massey, 75, of Taylor Mill died Monday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
She enjoyed taking care of others, including her first husband, who had muscular dystrophy; her second husband, John G. Massey, who suffered a stroke and later died in 1997, and a good friend in Taylor Mill.
"She had a lot of friends, and she took care of a lot of people, " Karas said.
Mrs. Massey also liked spending time with her four daughters and nieces. They would make a day of shopping and eating, usually in Florence, Karas said.
Mrs. Massey was a homemaker and a member of Hilltop Church of Christ, Taylor Mill.
In addition to Karas, survivors include sons, Thomas E. Gorman and Joseph T. Gorman, both of Cincinnati, and Samuel D. Gorman of Melbourne, Fla.; daughters, Nancy E. Gorman of Taylor Mill, Sandra Kay Mahlman of Albuquerque, N.M., and Priscilla E. Oehlschlaeger of Cincinnati; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Hilltop Church of Christ, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Raymond Applegate, 76, of Maysville, died Friday at Maysville Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility. He was a retired laborer from Parker Tobacco Co., Maysville, and a member of Maysville Church of Christ. His daughters, Ruth Ann Applegate and Sara Lee Applegate, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Ann Applegate; a son, Jessie Applegate of Maysville; a daughter, Irene Applegate Clark of Maysville, a stepson, John Martin Cooney of Maysville; stepdaughters, Mary Ann Jones of Maysville and Kathy Hickman of Graham, Wash.; a brother, Gerna Applegate of New Richmond, Ohio; sisters, Margaret Sweet and Janet McRoberts, both of Lexington; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brell & Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
Nancy Lee Klaserner Barth, 76, of Union, died Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Barth; sons, H. James Barth of Union, Timothy Barth of Morning View, Mark Barth of Florence, and Fr. Michael Barth of Carrollton; daughters, Barbara Barczak of Walton and Kathleen Proctor of Hamilton, Ohio; a sister, Marion Fromme of Cold Spring; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Union. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Covington. Diana Brothers, 68, of Maineville, Ohio, formerly of Grant County, died Friday at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired nurse from Home Health Care, Cincinnati, and a member of Maineville Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Christopher Kurt Douglas of Mount Orab, Ohio; a daughter, Terrace Cunningham of Hamilton, Ohio; and a sister, Jeanette Paduano of Cincinnati.
Services were held on Monday at McDaniel Funeral Home, Corinth. There was no visitation. Burial is in Corinth Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L St. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20037.
Sue Burgett, 66, of Verona, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired assembly worker from Betts Manufacturing, Florence, and a member of Scenic View Christian Church. Her husband, David Samuel Burgett, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Mike Burgett of Glencoe and Eddie Burgett of Verona; her mother, Mae Farris Crowe of Walton; a sister, Janet Hartman of Walton; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Napoleon Odd Fellows Cemetery, Gallatin County.

Thomas E. "Doc" Cobb, 86, of Owenton, died Sunday at his home in Owenton.
He was a retired mobile home park owner and operator in Inverness, Fla., and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise O'Banion Cobb of Owenton and one sister, Elaine Mikel of Muncie, Ind.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald and New Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. there today. Interment will be in the Owenton IOOF Cemetery.

Anna Cox, 88, of Alexandria, formerly of Wolfe County, died Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a retired cook from the Campbell County School District and a member of Campton Baptist Church. Her husband, Charles Cox, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Lois Youtsey of Alexandria, Ina Real of Cold Spring, Kathy Fortner of Lexington, and Charlene Melson of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Helen McPherson, Blanche Miller, Mildred Allen, and Faye Richardson; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Mildred "Mickey" Zechella Garrison, 79, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Therese Church, Southgate. She was also a member of the 55 Club of St. Thomas. Her husband, William C. Garrison, preceded her in death.

Howard Prentice Gouge, 89, of Corinth, formerly of Burlington, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired civil engineer from Southern Railroad and a member of Hebron Baptist Church. His first wife, Geraldine Hedger Gouge, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Howard Gouge; sons, Jerry Gouge of Tyler, Texas, and Larry Gouge of Hebron; a stepson, Leo Taylor of Corinth; sisters, Christine Blackburn and Mary Kay Worthington, both of Crittenden; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.

Elwood William McClung, 82, of Florence, died Sunday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. He was a retired plant manager from Husky Products, Florence, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Burlington, Independent Order of Foresters, Sacred Order of the Dragon, and VFW Post No. 4369, Sharonville, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Hicks McClung; sons, Tommy Ray Craddock of Bull City, Ariz., and Dennis McClung of Greenhills, Ohio; a daughter, Tandye Lynn Elliott of Walton; a sister, Doris Jean Suhr of Sharonville, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

James William McCown, 91, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired railroader from L&N; Railroad. His wife, Lucy McCown, preceded him in death.

Simon Smith, 88, of Brooksville, died Monday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Helen Ruth Smith; a son, Billy Smith; and a daughter, Wanda Kay Smith, preceded him in death.
