Grace Betz, gifted in many areas
Grace M. Betz was multi-talented. She was an artist, an insurance executive, a nurse, a corporate secretary, a church volunteer and a world traveler.
"She was a very smart lady, " said Mrs. Betz' nephew, Raymond Reeves of Florence. "Whatever group she was with, she could handle it."
Mrs. Betz, 89, of Erlanger, and formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at the Village Care Center in Erlanger.
She was a member of the Covington Art Club and belonged to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Crestview Hills. Her husband, Raymond Betz, died in 1989.
Mrs. Betz worked as a nurse and also as a secretary at Procter & Gamble Co. She joined her husband in operating the Betz insurance agency for many years.
She was a church volunteer and enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.
Her main hobby was painting.
"She was one of the best painters, " said Mr. Reeves. "She could paint pictures of just about anything on any kind of substance -- wood blocks, china plates, even on household objects like oil cans."
Mrs. Betz also enjoyed playing golf.
"She had an outgoing personality and was close to her relatives, " said Mr. Reeves. "We had lots of good times together."
Other survivors include nephews Robert Howard of Carmel, Ind., Randy Reeves of Elsmere, Neil Robinson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mark Robinson of Toledo, Fla.; and nieces Candace Reeves of Florence and Sandra Lafollette of Falmouth.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Burial will be in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 2718 Dixie Highway, Crestview Hills, Ky. 41017.
Marian Elizabeth Kallmeyer Erion, 78, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church in Florence. She was the Hidden Valley Golf Club women's champion in 1982.
Survivors include sons Michael Erion of Lakeside Park and Mark Erion of Union; a brother, Richard Kallmeyer of Erlanger; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Polly Jane Foster Hayes, 95, of Fort Mitchell, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a former employee of Kay's and Exquisite laundries, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Independence. Her husband, William B. Hayes, died in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Claypole of Fort Mitchell; a son, James Hayes of Dry Ridge; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Viola Johnson, 82, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Floyd Johnson Jr. of Covington; daughters H. Marsha Johnson and Geraldine Singh, both of Covington, and Edna Price of Boone County; a sister, Clara Crumes of Covington; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Jones, Simpson and Gee Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mary E. Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere.
Alexis Mackenzie Louden, the daughter of Glenn and Lisa Davis Louden of Walton, was stillborn Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Other survivors include a brother, Andrew Louden of Walton; grandparents Diane and Bill Davis of Crescent Springs, Terry and Jerry Wright of Walton and Glenn and Jenny Louden of Petersburg; and great-grandparents Janet Noble of Petersburg, Jean and Estil Taylor of Florence, and Providence Conners and Maury Davis, both of Cincinnati.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.

Harold Newkirk, 74, of Falmouth, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a farmer, carpenter and former employee of Davey Tree Co. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Lodge; sons Harold Michael Newkirk and Allen Wayne Newkirk, both of Falmouth; a daughter, Patricia Ann Newkirk of Falmouth; sisters Helen Stokes of Harrison, Ohio, and Beulah West of Falmouth; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery, Kincaid Lake State Park, Falmouth.
Russell Parrett, 82, of Independence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a grocer. Sons Clifford Parrett and Dennis R. Parrett, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Parrett; a son, Jess Michael Parrett of Cincinnati; brothers Ernest Parrett and Raymond Parrett, both of Jackson County; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakes Funeral Home, McKee. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakes Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seven Pines Cemetery, Jackson. Geneva Colston Pelley, 87, of Hebron, died at 8:25 p.m. Monday at Baptist Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was a retired sales clerk and homemaker, and a member of Hebron Baptist Church and the Hebron Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Horace Fillmore Pelley, died in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Fillmore Pelley of Hebron; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Maxwell of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Randall Reeves, 67, of West Union, Ohio, formerly of Mason County, died at 2:17 a.m. Wednesday at Adams County Manor, West Union. He was a tool and die setter, and a member of Augusta Church of the Nazarene. His wife, Eileen Thacker Reeves, died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Darin Reeves; a daughter, Dana Reeves; sisters Peggy Robinson of Cincinnati, Brenda Reeves of Burlington and Sue Steele of Fairfield, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.

Robert A. Schmitz, 77, of Crestview Hills, died at 6:40 a.m. June 29 at Florence Park Care Center. He was a retired clerk with the U.S. Postal Service and a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Albers Schmitz; sons Gregory Schmitz of Erlanger and Terry Schmitz of Crestview Hills; daughters Lynda Price of Crestview Hills and Christy Gilliam of Crescent Springs; a brother, Raymond A. Schmitz of Covington; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Uhling, 78, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.
