Arthur A. Fueglein, 86, foreman, farmer
Brenda Ross credits her father, Arthur A. Fueglein of Erlanger, with giving her the qualities of fortitude, strength and a sense of humor.
Mr. Fueglein, who died Monday at the age of 86, she said, "would carry out everything he was told to do and stood tall."
He did stand tall, in fact -- about 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds in his prime. "He was a presence, " she said.
His proudest job was serving as Campbell County foreman for the Kentucky Department of Highways, she said. But he also worked in sales for The Kentucky Post, and he did part-time farming on the family farm in Brent, a community just south of Fort Thomas.
A devoted supporter of the Democratic Party, he was a member of the Campbell County Democratic Club.
He was a past president of the Mary Ingles Highway Development Association, a group that residents of Brent, Silver Grove, and Melbourne formed to lobby for the construction of Ky. 8.
Mr. Fueglein also loved animals.
His daughter remembers him taking sacks of feed to the Campbell County Animal Shelter.
He also bought ice cream cones in Cincinnati and gave them to the animals.
He didn't have much formal education, his daughter said, but he taught her the value of education.
A son, Arthur C. Fueglein, died in 1966.
Survivors include daughters Ross, of Pineville, N.C., and Martha Ann McCann of Rockport, Ind.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, followed by prayers.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

William Barnes, 78, of Newport, died at 8:10 a.m. July 16 at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include daughters, Lori Bestfelt of Cincinnati, Lynn Ferguson of Dayton and Candy Spars of Bellevue; sons, Russell Barnes of Dry Ridge, Wayne Barnes of Burlington, Kurt Barnes and Daniel Barnes, both of Dayton, Forrest Barnes and Van Barnes, both of Fort Thomas; and grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen cemetery Chapel, Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.

Mark Wayne Douglas, 45, of Ghent, died Monday at his home.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Lee Neff Douglas; a son, Trever Wayne Douglas of Ghent; a daughter, Chelsea Marie Douglas of Ghent; his parents, Wayne and Sallie Douglas of Crittenden; and a sister, Susan Powers of Crittenden.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Rising Sun, Ind.
Betty S. Hopkins, 74, of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Denise Arnold of Covington, Diane Garrett of Latonia, Corda Lee Pope of Cincinnati, Rene Boozer of Raleigh, N.C., and Terri French of Erlanger.
Services will be at noon Friday at First Baptist Church, Elsmere.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Mary E. Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere.

Anna Margaret Siry Noertker, 93, of Persimmon Grove, died at 2:54 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired teacher and a member of Persimmon Grove Baptist Church.
She was a Sunday school teacher and choir director at the church, and was a volunteer with the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
Her husband, Kiser Noertker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Jaye Neltner of Persimmon Grove; a son, Lloyd Kiser Noertker of Persimmon Grove; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Persimmon Grove Baptist Church.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Persimmon Grove Church Cemetery.

Tommy Nathan Thompson, 47, of Latonia, died Monday at a location in Covington.
He was owner of Reliable Cleaners in Latonia and an employee of Riedinger Dry Cleaners in Covington.
Survivors include daughters, Tasha L. Day of Burlington and Nyoka Thompson of Dry Ridge; his mother, Roberta A. Thompson of Florence; brothers, George Thompson of Akron, Ohio, Gary Thompson of Independence and David Thompson of Elsmere; sisters, Sherry Kuhr of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Debbie Partin of Florence; his fianc�e, Robin Bonar of Latonia; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Brooksville.

Charles Tommy Williams, 77, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at Grand Haven Nursing Home, Cynthiana.
He was a retired employee of Butler Products.
Survivors include a brother, Bill Williams of Cynthiana; and sisters, Nora Gifford of Newport and Bessie Shoemaker of Butler.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
