Anna Marie Farney, took care of others

Anna Marie Farney spent her life taking care of other people.

"She was an angel, " said her niece, Patte Farney of Latonia. "Entirely selfless, generous, kind and giving."

Ms. Farney, 92, was born in Lexington, but moved to Latonia when her father started Farney's Transmission at 40th Street and Decoursey Avenue.

The Holmes High School graduate worked as the treasurer for Covington Trust Bank until her retirement at age 62.

She spent the next few years taking care of her parents until they died. Then she moved to Lexington to take care of a great aunt. When the great aunt died, she returned to Northern Kentucky and helped take care of her brother until her own death on Monday.

She never married and never had children of her own.

She was a member of Hilltop Church of Christ in Taylor Mill. "She was as fine an example of a Christian as a person could have, " her niece said.

Survivors include a brother, Robert G. Farney of Covington, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hilltop Church of Christ, 5300 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, Ky. 41015; or Athens Christian Church, 6295 Athens-Boonesboro Road, Lexington, Ky. 40509.

Henry Brueggeman, 75, of Union, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

John R. Cahill, 69, of Fairborn, Ohio, formerly of Fort Mitchell, died June 29 at his residence. He was a retired technical sergeant from the U.S. Air Force and manager at Prairie Trace Golf Course at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Cahill; a son, Michael Cahill of Fairborn, Ohio; a daughter, Tamara Shadions of Fairborn, Ohio; stepsons, Stephen Sarchet of Ellensburg, Wash., Brian Sarchet of Apple Valley, Calif., Michael Sarchet and Russ Desroches, both of Fairborn, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Donna McCoart of Fairborn, Ohio; brothers, Vincent Cahill and Raymond Cahill, both of Fort Mitchell; a sister, Dolores Hellmann of Fort Mitchell; one grandson and five step-grandchildren.

Services have been held. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, handled the arrangements.

Madge E. Cox, 86, of Newport, died Monday at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and former owner of Harrison Boat Dock, Dayton, and several local taverns. Her husbands, Elza Cox and George Harrison, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Louis Katrak of West Chester, Ohio; a brother, Harry Campbell of Cincinnati; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-ErschellFuneral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Newport.

Timothy W. Courtney Sr., 42, of Burlington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospital South, Edgewood.

Survivors include his wife, Tonya Courtney; sons, Chance Courtney of Independence and Timothy Courtney, Jr., of Burlington; a daughter, Crystal Courtney of Erlanger; his mother, Martha Courtney of Erlanger; a brother, Tony Courtney of Florence; and sisters, Becky Courtney of Texas and Trish Courtney of Covington.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. There is no visitation. C&C; Mortuary Service, Covington, is handling the arrangements.

Emma Jewell Garrison Dickey, 83, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Lexington. She was a homemaker, a former employee of McKnight's Restaurant, and a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall. Her husband, Raymond Buford Dickey, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Larry Dickey of Cynthiana and William Ray Dickey of Harrison County; daughters, Theresa Sue Whitaker of Williamstown, Barbara Jewell Charlet and Geraldine Herrington Carrico, both of Georgetown; a brother, Gerald Garrison of Floral City, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery.

William C. Edwards, 82, of Alexandria, died Saturday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. He was a retired driver and salesman from Trauth Dairy and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was past president of the Alexandria Fair Board, former president of Eastern Campbell County Volunteer Fire Department, a trustee at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Alexandria, and a member of the Mentor Water District.

Survivors include his wife, Florence F. Edwards; daughters, Pam Cade and Barbara Martin, both of Alexandria, and Sally Reis of California; a brother, Charles Heiert of Wilder; sisters, Ann Nelson of Melbourne and Audrey Thornton of Fort Mitchell; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Alexandria Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 11212 Lees Road, Alexandria, Ky. 41001; or Alzheimer's Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Mary "Turner" Herald, 99, of Newport, formerly of Breathitt County, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the West 7th Street Church of God, Newport. Her husband, Sam Herald, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Jefferson Herald of Taylor Mill and Leonard Herald of Newport; daughters, Martha Turner of Talbert and America Strong of Newport; a brother, Jefferson Turner of Talbert; a sister, Polly Combs of Newport; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Bill Combs Cemetery, Breathitt County. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Lillian Morris McGee, 94, of Dry Ridge, died Friday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

She was a homemaker and a member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church. Her husband, Clifford McGee, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Winnie McGee Evans of Dry Ridge; a brother, Merrell Morris of Dry Ridge; two grandchildren and five grandchildren.

Services and visitation were held Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Memorials are suggested to Dry Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 19 Broadway, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.

Robert P. Perkins, 94, of Williamstown, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Williamstown. He was a farmer and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. His wife, Leona Fornash Perkins, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Ronnie Perkins of Dry Ridge, Bobby Perkins of Williamstown, and Harold Perkins of Mount Zion; a daughter, Lois Perkins Ford of Williamstown; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation was held on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was in Williamston Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice, North Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Louise M. Pyles, 64, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital North, Covington. She was an office manager at Drees Construction.

Survivors include her husband, Ira Pyles; sons, Gregory Pyles of Verona, Scot Pyles of Union, and Christopher Pyles of Cincinnati; a daughter, Cheryl Boggess of Amelia, Ohio; brothers, Harold Budd of Louisville, Raymond Budd of Marion, N.Y., and Charles Budd of Waco, Texas; sisters, Betty Johns and Doreen Cole, both of Jefferson, Ohio, Evelyn Labonte of Ravenna, Ohio, and Fran Sibson of Plant City, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Church of Christ, Burlington. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and at noon Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, P.O. Raymond P. Saner, 81, of Bellevue, died Friday at VA Medical Center, Fort Thomas. He was a retired inventory control clerk at Control Center, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue Vets, and Bellevue Vets Youth Baseball League, a volunteer at Holy Name Society of Divine Mercy Parish, past president of Campbell County Game and Fish, treasurer of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and treasurer of Bellevue Lions. His wife, Rose Druffel Saner, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Steve Saner of Cold Spring and Mark Saner of Newport; daughters, Sally Saner Heck and Sharon Saner Gastright, both of Cold Spring; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Divine Mercy Parish, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Mr. Saner's body will be donated to the University of Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Divine Mercy Parish, St. Vincent DePaul Society, 317 Division St., Bellevue, Ky. 41073; or Edward H. John Donald Snowden, 71, of Alexandria, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired printer from Perry & Derrick Paint and a member of Campbell County VFW No. 3205.

Survivors include his wife, June McIntosh Snowden; a son, Michael Snowden of Ludlow; a daughter, Kimberly Dischar of Taylor Mill; a brother, Mickey Richardson of Xenia, Ohio; sisters, Jenny Snowden and Wilma Snowden, both of Clay City; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Eila B. Glass Stewart, 94, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas. She was a retired press operator at the Baldwin Piano Co., Cincinnati, and a private duty nurse. Her husband, Joseph Robert Stewart, and son, William Joseph Stewart, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Joy Sullivan of Spring Hill, Fla., five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Kidney Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, 2200 Victory Parkway, Suite 510, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.

William Eric Stewart, 23, of Newport, died Sunday at his residence. He was a tree trimmer for Asplundh, Lebanon, Ohio.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, William Michael and Cheryl Stewart of Dayton; his stepfather, Gary Burns of Independence; brothers, Mike Stewart of Cold Spring, Brian Stewart, Timmy Stewart, and Rusty Stewart, all of Dayton, and Brandon Burns of Independence; sisters, Sarah Stewart and Shannon Stewart, both of Dayton, and Michelle Burns and Brittany Burns, both of Independence; paternal grandparents, Bill and Jewell Stewart of Cold Spring; and step-maternal grandparents, Ledford and Wilma Frasure of Hamilton, Ohio.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Johns Hill Cemetery, Wilder.

James Thomas "Hoppy" Thompson, 61, of Cincinnati, died Sunday at Mercy Anderson Hospital, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Thompson; a son, James T. Thompson, Jr., of Cincinnati; a daughter, Kimberly Thompson Macuare of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Everett Thompson of Maysville; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brell & Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Ida Elizabeth Livers Ware, 86, of Owenton died Sunday in Frankfort. She was a retired employee from Owen Electric, Owenton, and a member of Owenton Second Baptist Church. Her husband, Harrison "Ike" Ware, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Burhnam Clay Ware of Owenton; and two sisters, Mary Emily Jones of Owenton and Lillian Livers Thomas of New Liberty.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Owenton Second Baptist Church, Seminary Street, Owenton, Ky. 41052.

Robert C. Williams, 86, of Crestview, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas. He was a retired salesman from Swallens, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, St. Joseph's Seniors, Bluegrass Seniors, and Holy Name Society. A son, Thomas Williams, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Watson Williams; sons, Garry Williams of Taylor Mill and Kenneth Williams of Newport; daughters, Susan Kidney of California and Mary Beth Barnett of Persimmon Grove; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to American Kidney Foundation, 2200 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206; or Alzheimer's Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Jim Woods, 96, of Erlanger, formerly of Walton, died Sunday at VA Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired warehouseman from Cincinnati Terminal, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of First Baptist Church of Walton.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Jump Woods; a son, Barry Woods of Walton; a brother, Ray Woods ; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Walton. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Walton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Walton Building Fund, 47 S. Main St., Walton, Ky. 41094. Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling the arrangements.
