Rowena Carpenter, teacher for 40 years
Rowena Carpenter took care of herself and her relatives her entire life.
Miss Carpenter cared for her mother, who died three years ago at the age of 101, her cousin Janet Davis said. She also helped Davis whenever she needed anything.
"She was strong and independent, " Davis said.
Miss Carpenter, 80, of Taylor Mill, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.
In addition to caring for her relatives, Miss Carpenter fought breast cancer on her own when she was in her 40s. She never married
or had children, Davis said.
Miss Carpenter also cared for her students during her tenure as math and English teacher for 40 years at Simon Kenton, Dixie, Holmes and Highland high schools. At the end of her career, Davis said, Miss Carpenter worked as a librarian at Highland.
"She was very, very smart, " Davis said.
Miss Carpenter enjoyed doing a variety of crafts, including cross-stitch and copper enameling. She learned to knit recently, Davis said.
She also enjoyed visiting relatives in Cynthiana, helping out at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church, where she was a member, and contributing to Georgetown College, where she was a proud alumna.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Visitation will be there from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Carpenter Family Cemetery, Richwood.

Ricky Leo Finke, 45, of Burlington, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Webster's Backhoe and Dozer Services.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Finke; daughters, Angie Chambers of Florence and Erika Forrester and Abby Forrester, both of Burlington; brothers, Mike Finke of Cincinnati; Tim Finke, George Finke and Terry Finke, all of Burlington, and Mark Finke of Union; sisters, Pat Zalla and Pam Lasita, both of Union, and Judy Kirkpatrick and Rose Ann Burcham, both of Burlington.
Services are private. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington.
Miles L. Hackley Jr., 83, of Mount Sterling, died Saturday at Mary Chiles Hospital, Mount Sterling.
He worked in defense supply for the Air Force. He was a World War II veteran and a member of First Baptist Church, Mount Sterling.
Survivors include his wife, Glendora Perkins Hackley; a son, Miles Hackley III of San Antonio, Texas; and Susan Williams of Long Beach, Calif.; and a step-daughter, Diane DeArmond of Mount Sterling.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.
Douglas "Butch" Kelley, 59, of Latonia, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
C. Kenneth Kenner, 77, of Williamstown, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.
He was a retired central office supervisor with Cincinnati Bell.
He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, a member and deacon of the Williamstown Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent, a former member of the finance committee and former trustee, and a member of the Super Seniors.
He served eight years on the Williamstown Board of Education. He also served on the Grant County Planning Commission and as chairman of the Williamstown Board of Adjustments. He was a former announcer for the Grant County Fair horse shows. He was an auctioneer with Grant County Real Estate and Auction Co.
Survivors include his wife, Willena (Scroggins) Kenner; a son, Rodney Kenner of Florence; daughters, Patsy Kenner of Erlanger and Carol Souder of Williamstown; sons, Dennis Kenner and Douglas Kenner, both of Williamstown; a brother, Keith Kenner of Williamstown; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donald Edward "Moon" Lyon, 74, of Covington, died at 5:37 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a supervisor/driver for Rainbow Baking Co. and a salesman/driver for Klosterman Baking Co. He was a member of Latonia Christian Church and a member of Teamsters Union Local 114.
Survivors include his wife, Dorene Brue Lyon; a son, Donald Mark Lyon of Burlington; a brother, R.C. Lyon of Aurora, Ind.; A sister, Thelma Buckler of Petersburg; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.

Thomas "Tom" Bruce McKenzie, 64, of Lakeside Park, died Saturday at his residence.
He was a retired assembly line worker for General Motors, Norwood.
Survivors include his wife, Edna McKenzie of Covington; daughters, Nichole "Nikki" McKenzie of Lakeside Park and Karrissa "Red" McKenzie of Williamsburg; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at T.L.C. Cremation and Funeral Service, Covington. Memorial visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

Thorne Clay McLoney, 73, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
He was a retired electrical inspector and former owner of McLoney Electrical Wholesale. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cynthiana and an Army veteran.

Marian Guy Pauly, 83, of Elsmere, died Saturday at Woodcrest Manor Care Center, Elsmere.
She was a school cafeteria worker at St. Henry School, Elsmere. She was a member of the Elsmere Seniors and Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. She was a former member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Pauly.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony "Tony" Pauly; daughters, Donna Good of Florence and Cindy Schachere of Ludlow; sons, James Pauly of Hayward, Calif., and Dennis Pauly of Fort Mitchell; a brother, Paul Guy of Fort Thomas; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

Hilda C. Rawlings, 90, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church. Her husband, Walter S. Rawlings died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Gordon David of Elsmere and Ronald Davis of Perry Park; a sister, Bertha Roth of Cold Spring; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Katherine "Kathy" Spigles Sams, 52, of Cynthiana, died Friday at her residence.
She was an employee of the 3M Co.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Lee Sams; a brother, Robert Mosley Spigles Sr. of Harrison County; sisters, Cheryl Lane Clifford of Frankfort, Margaret Lee Stanfield of Bourbon County, Pamela Joyce Earle of Harrison County and Patricia Ann Fox of Lee County.

Margaret M. Stallkamp, 77, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ralph Stallkamp, died in 1997. Her son, Thomas Stallkamp, died in 1976. Her daughter, Nancy Gannon, died in 2003.
Survivors include sons, James Stallkamp of Erlanger; daughters, Sharon Rexroat of Fort Mitchell and Joan Whittamore of Independence; sisters, Eileen Stallkamp and Joyce Moore, both of Cincinnati, and Jane Workman of Florence; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Glenn E. Traft, 73, of Bromley, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Covington.
He was an assembler for Michael Art and Bronze, Erlanger. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of St. Augustine Church. He was also a member of the Bromley Fire Department, Iron Workers Union No. 522, and coached Knothole baseball. His wife, Wilma Traft, died in 2001.
Survivors include sons, Garry Pete Traft of Independence, Ronald Lee Traft of Covington and Timothy W. Traft of Bromley; daughters Mary Banks of Ludlow, Missy Eddy of Independence and Brandi Traft and Carrie Yelton, both of Bromley; brothers, Norman Traft of Largo, Fla., Robert Traft of Walton and Raymond Traft of Independence; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Janet M. Trigg, 73, of Villa Hills, died Saturday at her residence.
She was an associate professor emeritus of nursing at the University of Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs, Southwest Ohio Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, Oncology Nurses Association, National Breast Cancer Coalition, Women's Club of University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Town Club, Bankers Club of Cincinnati, Summit Hills Country Club, Sigma Beta Stoner Society Beth and Iota Chapter.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Trigg, Jr.; sons, William C. Trigg III of Albany, N.Y., and Michael J. Trigg of Waukegan, Ill.; daughters, Karen Wigger of Villa Hills and Mary Janet Akau of Maui, Hawaii; a brother, James P. Hoyle of Dixon, Ill; and 12 grandchildren.
