Thomas Ryan, was the 'life of the party'
Thomas Patrick Ryan was good with numbers, great at baseball and always in demand as a storyteller.
"He had the most unbelievable wit and was such a typical Irish story teller, " said Mr. Ryan's daughter, Julie Miller of Lawrenceville, Ga. "He could always make a joke out of something and make a punch line.
"He was the life of the party, always."
Mr. Ryan, 74, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He was a financial consultant for Amicus Insurance Co. of Baton Rouge, La.
"He was very good with numbers and a hard worker, " said Miller. "He was still working at age 74, commuting to Baton Rouge and working there for a couple of weeks before coming home for a break."
Mr. Ryan was a graduate of Newport Catholic High School and a member of the St. Thomas Boosters. He played semi-pro baseball and was a member of the Northern Kentucky Baseball Hall of Fame. "He was such a good baseball player that when he was in the Navy he played baseball for the Navy, " said his daughter. "He also played basketball, enjoyed golf and was an all-around athlete.
"He loved to coach his children and grandchildren and kept up with all their sports."
Other survivors include his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Dressman Ryan; daughters, Laurie Horan, Amy Buter, Peggy Collopy and Molly Giesler, all of Fort Thomas; sons, Pat Ryan of Florence, Mike Ryan of Cicero, N.Y., Shawn Ryan of San Diego, Calif., and Matt Ryan of Fort Thomas; 35 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Madeline Marie Noble Crouch, 77, of Covington, died Sunday at Villasprings Care Center, Erlanger.
She was a homemaker and a member of Covington Baptist Temple. Her son, George Crouch died in 1997. He husband, Thomas Crouch died in 1999.
Survivors include daughters, Sue Powell of Independence and Cindy Finn of Crittenden; sons, Joe Crouch of Burlington and Jerry Crouch of Independence; sisters, Cora Jackson of Sparta and Nancy Powell of Florence; a brother, Jake Noble of Beckley, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday . Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.
Elaine DeWolfe, 69, of Burlington, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a clerical specialist for Phillips Electronics. She had also worked for Proctor & Gamble and Montgomery Ward. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jefferson City, Tenn. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Roger DeWolfe; sons, David DeWolfe of Florence and Tim DeWolfe of Cleveland, Tenn; daughter's, Nancy DeWolfe of Burlington and Terri Patterson of Angola, Ind.; a brother, Dale Dunaway of West Chester, Ohio., a sister, Lanas Hendricks of Southern Pine, N.C.; five grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The crematory will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to First Methodist Church, Jefferson City, Tenn.
Mary F. Earl, 74, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital North, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Earl; her mother, Anita Saylor of Calvin; sons, David Earl of Florence, Jimmy Earl of Waynesville, Mo., Jimmy Earl of Covington, Jerry Earl of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters, Sue Meyer of Atlanta, Ga., Laura Utsler of Cincinnati, and Patty Earl of Ludlow; a brother, Sonny Saylor of Marshall, Texas; a sister, Betty Miller of Barbourville; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Ludlow. Visitation will begin from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling the arrangements.
Daniel Lee Fisher, 56, of Palm Harbor, Fla., died Tuesday at his residence.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Wood of Highland Heights; daughters, Danelle and Nicole Fisher both of Erlanger; a brother, Lou Peluso of Taylor Mill; three grandchildren.

Judith Lee Hodge Huff, 58, of Florence, died Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John Huff Sr.; sons, Joe Huff of Truckee, Calif., John Huff Jr., and J. Kelly Huff both of Florence; sisters, Theresa Broaddus of Richmond and Mary Maines of Paducah; a brother, Frank Robbins of Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Luther Ison, 75, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a self-employed merchant. He served in the Korean War, and he was a member of the Coca Cola Union.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Ison; a son, Steve Ison of Florence; a sister, Madeline Hansel of Florence; brothers, Bruce and Elmer Ison both of Florence; one grandchild.

Douglas "Butch" Kelley, 59, of Latonia, died at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a former dock worker with American Custom Metals, Erlanger.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel A. Ferrell Kelly; sons, Doug Kelley of Latonia, Eddie Kelley and Mark Kelley both of Covington; and four grandchildren.

Lou Bertha Cindy Rowe Kemper, 79, of Petersburg, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William J. Kemper died in 1983.
Survivors include sons, William J. Kemper of Dry Ridge, Chester L. Kemper and Henry Kemper both of Morningview; a daughter, Emma L. Kemper of Aurora, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.

George L. Klein, 82, of Independence, died at 6:57 a.m. Monday at his residence. He was a retired carpenter for Dupont Chemical Company, and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Klein; sons, George D. Klein of Middletown and David B. Klein of Independence; a brother, Arnold Klein of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sisters, Elenore Nagel of Park Ridge, N.J., and Florence Quackbush of West Palm Beach.

Richard L. Kunkel, 64, of Dry Ridge, died at 2:36 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth South, Edgewood.

Lida Moran Linville, 79, of Roberson County Health Care Facility, died Sunday at the nursing home. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her son, Junior Hart, and a daughter, Betty Price.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon L. Linville; sons, Ronnie Hart of Tollesboro and Lovell Linville of Lexington; daughters, Martha Howell of Maysville, Bonnie Schauffenburger of Germantown, and Beatrice Linville of Tollesboro; a twin sister, Nellie Linville of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Thomas "Tom" Bruce McKenzie, 64, of Lakeside Park, died Saturday at his residence.
He was a retired assembly line worker for General Motors, Norwood.
Survivors include his wife, Edna McKenzie of Covington; daughters, Nichole "Nikki" McKenzie of Lakeside Park and Karrissa "Red" McKenzie of Williamsburg; and seven grandchildren.

Arnold "Bud" Myers, 74, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a network engineer for Cincinnati Bell. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, past president, Covington-Kenton County Lion's Club, a life member of Pioneer Club, National Rifle Association and the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Myers; a son, James Arnold Myers of Fort Wright; daughters, June Belt of Florence, Kathleen Myers of Somerset, Tina Walters of Independence; a sister, Dottie Ostendorf of Edgewood; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
