Dr. Michael Stone, enjoyed family, travel and the outdoors
Dr. Michael Stone tried to live life to the fullest.
He was passionate about his podiatric practice in Fargo, N.D., and studied innovative treatment methods in Russia and Switzerland.
He enjoyed skydiving and was part owner of two custom rods and motorcycles restoration businesses.
"He had a very full life, " said his mother, Bobbye Stone, of Fort Thomas.
Dr. Stone, 52, died July 8 in Harrison, Ohio, as he was returning to North Dakota after his father's funeral on June 29.
Bobbye Stone said her son was inspired to become a doctor because one of his brothers had Down Syndrome.
"He was very active in his practice, " she said.
Dr. Stone was president of the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, the North Dakota Board of Podiatric Examiners and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He was certified in the treatment of chronic wounds and co-founder of the Meritcare Wound Clinic.
In his free time, Stone enjoyed spending time with his wife, Wendy Hendrickson, and five children, his mother said.
He enjoyed skydiving and owned his own airplane for a short time, she said. He also enjoyed traveling all over the country and the world.
"His real love, naturally, was Kentucky, " she said.
Dr. Stone, who was born in Fort Thomas, moved to North Dakota because "he just thought there was a lot of clean living out there, " his mother said.
Dr. Stone was preceded in death by his father, Robert Stone, and a brother, Danny Stone.
In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include three daughters, Sarah Stone, Brittany Stone and Megan Stone, all of Fargo; two sons, Andy Hendrickson of Grand Forks, N.D., and Luke Hendrickson of Devils Lake, N.D.; two brothers, Joe and John Stone, both of Fort Thomas; a sister, Robin Lowe, of Loveland; a foster sister, Barbara Gregory, of Columbus; and one grandchild.
A memorial Mass will be said at 7 p.m. Friday at Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue.

Elsa M. Busch, 95, of Newtown, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died Monday.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Clemens Bush, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Margaret Kohne of Fort Wright and Rose Blomer of Newtown, Ohio; a sister, Gertrude Krebs of Germany; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Fisher Church, Newtown. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Montgomery, Ohio.

John E. "Jack" Ebert, 76, of Southgate, died Tuesday at his daughter's residence in Mentor.
He was a retired manager for Cincinnati Bell, and a Korean War veteran. He was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport, a former youth leader and Sunday school teacher at St. John's. He was a member of St. John's Chancel Choir. He was active in St. John's Retiree's Club. He was a former board member of Youth Haven and Camp Sunshine.
He was a former member of Southgate City Council and former city of Southgate police judge. He was formerly active in the Village Players. He was a poll worker for the elections.
He volunteered in admitting at St. Luke Hospital and was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the Northern Kentucky Community Chorus. His wife, Joyce (Wilson) Ebert, preceded him in death. She died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa (Ebert) Daniels of Mentor; a son, John Eric Ebert of Independence; a brother, Christian J. Ebert Jr., of Southgate; a sister, Carol Arrasmith of Burgin; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport. Visitation will begin there from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery Mausoleum, Southgate.

Mary Ann Goetz, 82, of Fort Mitchell, died Monday at St. Elizabeth South Hospital, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker. Her son, John, died in 2002.
Survivors include her husband, Albert; sons, Michael Goetz of Louisville, Daniel Goetz of Independence, Paul Goetz and Thomas Goetz both of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Margaret Poppel of Edgewood and Jeanne Goetz of Crittenden; a sister, Margaret Weghorn of Fort Wright; six grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Grace M. Heuser, 78, of Bellevue, died Friday at St. Luke East.
She was a homemaker, a member of St. Anthony Church Bellevue and a member of the Altar Society. Her husband, Kenneth Heuser, died in 1983.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Haas, Donna Betscher and Karen Alwell, all of Bellevue; sons, Kenneth Heuser Jr., and Rick Heuser both of Bellevue; sisters, Ethel Ervin and Eleanor Moore, both of Bellevue; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Rudolph "Bud" Hils Jr., 79, of Highland Heights, formerly of Bellevue, died Monday at St. Luke East.
He was a truck driver for Lang Ironworks Co., Cincinnati, and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. He was a eucharistic minister and usher for the church and a volunteer at the STP Gentlemen, Bellevue Vets, Maritime Models Club, a member of the Bishop Mulloy Knights of Columbus, Boy Scout Leader of Troop 60 of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. His wife, Jean (Horstman) Hils, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Hils of Wilder and Timothy Hils of Cold Spring; brothers, Robert Hils of Edgewood and Edward Hils of Mt. Airy, Ohio.; a sister, Margie Klag of Cold Spring; three grandchildren.

Scott Vincent Charles Hils, 21, of Union, died Tuesday at Big Bone Lick. He was self-employed. Survivors include his father, David Hils of Union; his mother, Kay Knigga of Union; his step-mother, Theresa Hils of Union; and step-father, Nick Knigga of Union; a brother, Davey Joe Hils of Union; sisters, Katherine Hils and Sarah Knigga both of Union, and Danielle James-Hils of Lexington.

Lawrence "Sonny" Francis Kappes, 55, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Highland Heights, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at his residence.
He was a construction foreman for the Sherer Co. in Houston. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Juelg Kappes; his parents, Lawrence B. and Frances V. Kappes of Highland Heights; a son, Michael Kappes of Houston; daughters, Elizabeth Konarzewski of Virginia Beach, Va., and Laura Kappes of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Audrey Kappes Koester of Highland Heights.
A Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Burial will be for the immediate family members only in St. John's Cemetery, Fort Wright.

He worked in general services administration for the Internal Revenue Service and was a World War II Army veteran.
