Jonathan Dreifort, 51, knew his way around machines
Jonathan Dreifort believed in fixing things. While most people threw a broken product away, Mr. Dreifort would get on the phone, order a part and fix it, said his wife, Lucy Dreifort.
Mr. Dreifort, 51, who died Friday at his home in Hebron, worked for 20 years as a manager of service stations for Sohio, which became BP. Then he decided he wanted to teach; for the past seven years, he taught auto mechanics at Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio.
He always had a home-improvement project in progress, such as a new patio, his wife said.
He liked to tell the story of a man who paid several auto mechanics to find a rattle in his car, without success. The man came to Mr. Dreifort's shop. Mr. Dreifort took a ride with him and found the rattle -- the car keys hitting the steering column.
Mr. Dreifort and his wife grew up together in Cleveland, where they were junior high sweethearts. They married
other people, were divorced, and Mrs. Dreifort took a job teaching at Burlington Elementary School, near her relatives in Cincinnati.
Mr. Dreifort contacted her from Cleveland about six years ago. They started dating again, were married
in March 2002 and bought a house in Hebron.
Mr. Dreifort taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing in the choir of the First Church of Christ in Burlington, where he was a member.
"He loved to make a joyful noise, " his wife said. "He felt he was worshiping by singing."
