Edna Owens DeBerry, 82, artist, Girl Scout leader
Edna Elizabeth Owens DeBerry turned her home into an art studio.
For more than 50 years, she painted and made pottery, ceramics and other crafts in the basement of her home, where she also taught others how to become artisans.
"She had been a Girl Scout leader, and the studio started as a Girl Scout project gone berserk, " said Mrs. DeBerry's daughter, Sharon Ashford of Taylor Mill. "It was a very nurturing place."
Mrs. DeBerry, 82, of Taylor Mill, died Friday at Woodcrest Manor in Elsmere.
For 35 years, she led a weekly prayer group in connection with the Association for Research and Enlightenment.
"She was meditating long before it was in vogue, " said her daughter.
During World War II, Mrs. DeBerry was a "Rosie Riveter, " working on the assembly line at the Wadsworth electric company.
"Mom wanted to do her part, " said her daughter. "She was never wealthy but was rich in so many ways.
"She was very spiritual, very artistic, very outgoing. She was quick to help somebody if they had a problem. She was a very beautiful woman."
Mrs. DeBerry's husband, Emerson Gilbert DeBerry, died in 1985.
Other survivors include a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Bickel, 84, of California, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Roy L. Bowling, 60, of Latonia, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday at his home.
He was a heavy equipment operator with the Kentucky Highway Department.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Moore Bowling; a son, Patrick Bowling of Cincinnati; a daughter, Donna Miller of Cincinnati; a brother, David H. Bowling of Latonia; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richwood Cemetery.
Elbert Claxton, 64, of Owenton, died Friday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
He was a grinder and welder with William P. Valve Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Booth Claxton; daughters, Virginia Lea Lefevers of Detroit, Cindy A. Norman and Emma Burgin, both of Dayton, Delphia Bramlett of Georgetown and Brenda Bonapfel of California; brothers, Floyd Claxton of Dayton and Delbert Claxton of Patriot, Ind.; a sister, Maxine Thacker of Corbin; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hughes Chapel Cemetery, Boone County.
Dorothy Elizabeth Farrar Goetz, 82, of Florence, died Friday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger.
She was a former assistant city clerk with the city of Highland Heights and a member of Florence United Methodist Church and the church's United Methodist Women. Her husband, George Herbert Goetz, died in 2002. A daughter, Lisa Anne Goetz Sand, died in 2003.
Survivors include a son, Vernon Neal Goetz of Villa Hills; sisters, Dolly O'Neal of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Virginia Reising of Highland Heights; a brother, Preston Farrar of Falmouth; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Florence United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Union.

Tina Gongola, 88, of Ludlow, died at 4:38 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a retired baker with ARA Food Service and a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow. Her husband, Alphonse Gongola, died in 1985.
Survivors include daughters, Rosalie Ash of Delaware, Ohio, Mary Ann Wolfram of Bowling Green, Tina Von Bokern of Owenton, Cindy Jones of Ludlow and Beth Bruemmer of Mason, Ohio; brothers, Emerson Erion of Hamilton, Ohio, and Ralph Erion of San Antonio; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Boniface and James Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Renate Futterer Jones, 67, of Williamstown, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a retired bus driver with Kenton County Schools and a member of the Kenton County Fair Board and Kenton County 4-H.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Jones; daughters, Deborah Bolte of Burlington, Jennifer Bauer of Independence, Melinda Martino of Morning View and Rebecca Conklin of Florence; sons, Steven Jones and Tony Burden, both of Independence; her mother, Karola Futterer of Pforzheim, Germany; a sister, Gabriel Futterer of Pforzheim; brothers, Karl Heinz Futterer, Norbert Futterer and Klaus Futterer, all of Karlsruhle, Germany; and 13 grandchildren.

Andrew Gregory Mistler, 17, of Villa Hills, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday at Carroll County Hospital, Carrollton, of injuries suffered in an auto accident.
He was a senior at Dixie Heights High School and an employee of LaRosa's restaurant, Crescent Springs.
Survivors include his parents, Greg and Michele Mistler of Villa Hills; brothers, Michael Mistler of Taylor Mill and Chad Mistler of Villa Hills; and grandparents, Tom and Helen Mistler of Edgewood and Lou and Jean Moeves of Fort Wright.

Albert L. Moore Sr., 72, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at his home.
He was a retired carpenter, a deacon at Victory Baptist Church in Cynthiana and a member of the Georgetown VFW Post. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Dollie Ritchie Moore, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Albert Moore Jr. of Cynthiana, Gary W. Moore of Pennington Gap, Va., and Terrie A. Moore of Columbia; daughters, Sandra L. Kiskaden and Sherrie A. Highlander, both of Harrison County; brothers, C.D. Moore and Johnny Moore, both of Cynthiana, Billy Moore and Charles Moore, both of Burnside, N.C.; sisters, Ruth Swinford and Barbara Stroub, both of Cynthiana, and Gladys Mattox of Florida; 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Schulze Morrison, 65, of Erlanger, died at 11:37 p.m. Saturday at her home.
She was a custodian with Cathedral Child Development Center, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Nick Morrison; sons, Thomas Schulze, David Schulze, Robert Schulze, Mark Schulze and Timothy Schulze, all of Burlington; a daughter, Martha Schulze of Erlanger; a stepson, Nicholas Morrison of Cincinnati; her father, Bradley Miller of Burlington; four brothers, seven sisters, 25 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Gene Howell Riggs, 84, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:50 a.m. Friday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, Josiah D. Riggs; daughters, Martha Bonvillain of Cincinnati and Lynn Tavel of Phoenix; her mother, Martha Botts; a brother, John Howell of Louisville; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate.

He was a retired general laborer with the Newport Water Works.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Sandlin; a son, Wayne Sandlin of Dayton; a daughter, Cayla Apgar of Bellevue; sisters, Patsy Oliver of Florence and Monjoy Young of Frankfort; brothers, Miles Sandlin of Newport and Estel Sandlin of Booneville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
