Freda Pitts, helped establish church
Freda L. Ryle Pitts loved Boone County so much, she spent her whole life living there.
"She was just a plain country girl, " her daughter, Bonnie Doerman, of Hebron said.
Mrs. Pitts was raised on a farm in Boone County and then raised her family in Hebron.
Mrs. Pitts, 82, of Florence, died Wednesday at her home.
Doerman said her parents didn't have a lot of money when she was growing up, but her mother made the most of what they had. She said her mother could make $1 go a long way.
"We were just as happy as if we had a million dollars, " she said.
She also created a warm, loving home as a full-time homemaker, Doerman said.
"I can remember my mother was always there when I came home from school, " she said.
One of Mrs. Pitts' proudest accomplishments was helping to establish the Hebron Baptist Church.
Since the church opened in a storefront in Hebron, it has expanded several times and is now located off Ky. 237.
"We were all enthused, " Doerman said.
Mrs. Pitts was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer J. Pitts Jr., in 1969.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Pitts is survived by a sister, Norma Humphrey, of Lexington; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Hebron.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Robert F. Chappie, 81, of Covington, died Thursday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Harry "Grump" Eglian Sr., 76, of Alexandria, died at 3:02 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired employee of General Motors and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
His wife, Bertie Lou Eglian, died July 8. Daughters, Bertie Lou Eglian and Lenora Eglian, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Harry Eglian Jr. and Harold Eglian, both of Alexandria, Frederick Eglian of Cincinnati, and Michael Eglian of Silver Grove; daughters, Linda Branch of Grove City, Calif., Georgina Hamilton of Conyers, Ga., Victoria Stouffer of Dayton and Jack Eglian of Eureka, Calif.; a sister, Hope Woods of Victorville, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Alexandria Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Natha June Ervin, 71, of Independence, died Thursday at Cardinal Hill Hospital, Fort Thomas.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Lucy Mae Fryman, 87, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Trilogy at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
She was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Cynthiana.
Survivors include a brother, George Everett Fryman of Ewing; and a sister, Maggie Fryman of Cynthiana.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana.
Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Wagoner's Chapel Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Mary Jo Sahnger Heeb, 72, of Lakeside Park, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a homemaker and former sales associate with McAlpin's department store in Crestview Hills, and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell.
She was a member of the church St. Gemma Guild.
A son, Kevin G. Heeb, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, William A. Heeb; sons, William J. Heeb of Florence, Dr. Christopher A. Heeb of Edgewood and J. Bryan Heeb of Fort Wright; a daughter, Mary Gene Bengel of Cincinnati; sisters, Jeanne Hoersting of Oxford, Ohio, Shirley Pitts of Crestview Hills and Nancy Huser of Fort Myers, Fla.; brothers, Jack Sahnger of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jim Sahnger of Alpharetta, Ga.; and 13 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Jack Lynden Gilreath, 62, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at Garden Park Health Care Center, Cincinnati.
He was an engineer with Norfolk Southern Railroad, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Terry Collins Gilreath; sons, Jack Gilreath of Erlanger and Sean Gilreath of Villa Hills; a brother, Bob Gilreath of Stevensville, Mich.; a sister, Kathy Smith of Mason, Ohio; and 11 grandchildren.
Memorials services will be from 4 to 7 tonight at Florence Baptist Church.
Cremation will be at Northern Kentucky Cremation Co., Walton.

George G. Link, 85, of Covington, died Thursday at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was a retired baker.
Survivors include his wife, Lizetta Klare Link; sons, Michael G. Link of Nashville, Tenn., and Mark Link of Orange Beach, Ala.; a daughter, Kethleen Mays of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Jennie Collins of Palos Verde, Calif.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
