Juanita Roberts, 76, was 'glue of the family'
As one of the oldest of 17 children, Juanita "Bonnie" Roberts help take care of her younger brothers and sisters.
That proved excellent on-the-job experience for when she became a mother -- and grandmother.
"Mom learned very early in life the value of hard work, " said Mrs. Roberts' daughter, Melody Dilts of Dayton. "She was a strong woman who always stood for what was right. She was the glue of the family."
Mrs. Roberts, 76, of Dayton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
She was a retail clerk retired from Ontario's, and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dayton and the Women's Club of the church.
"When we were young, mom always managed to provide for us even as a single parent, " said Dilts. "Often the hours were long, and the work was hard, but she never complained.
"She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She would never miss a game in which her grandchildren were competing and often would bring the teams snacks. She became the whole team's grandma."
She and her mother went shopping every Saturday "and mom would always buy for everyone but herself, " Dilts said.
"On vacation every year, we could always find her with a bag full of Hilton Head souvenirs for all her family and friends. She loved making other people happy. She lived for helping others."
Mrs. Roberts enjoyed making ceramics and other crafts and was excellent at sewing, crocheting and quilting.
"She never used a pattern, " said her daughter. "She just cut the material, and away she went."
Other survivors include another daughter, Jamie Roberts of Dayton; brothers, James Burns of Cincinnati, Charles Burns and Donald Burns, both of Bellevue, Kenneth Burns and William Burns, both of Dayton; sisters, Ruby Topmiller of Covington, Phyliss Smith of Dayton, Jeannie Edwards of Independence and Marcia Allen of the state of California; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mary Jane Vetter Betz, 85, of Park Hills, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service and a member of the Hilltoppers, Elks and Hibernians. Her first husband, Lawrence C. Vetter, died in 1956. Her second husband, Louis Betz, died in 1989.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Vetter Daly and Jane Vetter Sanning, both of Independence, and Therese Vetter Beimesch of Burlington; sons, John Vetter of Independence, Charles Vetter of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Joseph Vetter of Edgewood; stepdaughters, Mary Ann Gibbs and Barbara Frommeyer, both of Crittenden; sisters, Patricia Robbins of Lakeside Park and Sister Judith McMahon, C.D.P., of New York; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Margaret Schneider Brown-Elliott, 95, of Newport, died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a retired printer and a member of Order of the Eastern Star No. 337, Alexandria. Her husband, Arthur C. Elliott; a daughter, Alice Jean Elliott Stadtmiller; and son, Richard Brown, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, June Chalk of Versailles; a brother, George Schneider of Cynthiana; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Tony Glacken, 22, of Covington, died Saturday of injuries suffered in an auto accident on Kentucky 47, Carroll County.

Christine Kidwell, 85, of Carrollton, died Friday at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carrollton. She was a retired employee of Ogden Hardware Co., Carrollton, and a member of Carrollton Christian Church. Her husband, Hurley Kidwell, died in 1993.
Survivors include a niece, Ruth Shaffer of Punta Gorda, Fla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Elbert D. King Sr., 84, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Harrison County Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana, of injuries suffered in a farming accident. He was a retired roofer and farmer, and an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Elbert King Jr., preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Whitley King; and a brother, David King of Durham, N.C.
Graveside services were today at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. McDonald & New Funeral Home, Owenton, handled arrangements.
The Rev. David William Moeller, 79, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a minister with First Baptist Church in Covington, Eastside Baptist Church in Toledo, Ohio, and East Bend Baptist Church in Boone County.
He was a member of Florence Baptist Church and had a ministry that included Fairhaven Rescue Mission and nursing homes.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Moeller; a son, Mark David Moeller of Genoa, Ohio; daughters, Benetta Jo Moore of Hebron, Rebecca Sue Moeller of Erlanger and Amy Elizabeth Chapman of Florence; a brother, James Lee Moeller of Fort Thomas; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Florence Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Florence Baptist Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Irene Russell, 79, of Crittenden, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Verona Church of Christ.

Edna Miller Simpson, 93, of Williamstown, died Friday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.
She was a retired cook at the Golden Lamb Restaurant in Lebanon, Ohio, and a member of Corinth Christian Church.
Her husband, Raymond C. Simpson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Sammy Simpson of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughters, Ruby Vallandingham and Glada Richardson, both of Williamstown, Betty Brewer of Dry Ridge and Freddie Mae Bosse of Dry Ridge; a stepson, Marvin Hedges of Warsaw; a sister, Bertie Lee Gregg of Williamstown; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Lena "Dolly" Sparrow, 77, of Cincinnati, died Friday at St. Francis Hospital, Mount Airy campus, Cincinnati.

Herschel Spegal, 91, of Demossville, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a farmer, a member of Carters Chapel Methodist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
His wife, Carolyn Polline Menefee Spegal, died in 1971.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Miller of Demossville; a stepdaughter, Karen Gibson of Grove City, Ohio; a sister, Norma Lucille Stephenson of Knoxville, Tenn.; a grandson and two step-grandsons.

Todd Walton, 43, of Demossville, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a former emergency medical technician and a firefighter with the Piner Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Grassy Creek Christian Church and an Army veteran. He also volunteered at Camp Northward.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Fenhoff Walton; sons, Josh Walton, Jason Reller and Bruce Reller, all of Demossville; a daughter, Paige McFarland of Demossville; his parents, Sherry and Larry Walton of Piner; a sister, Carrie List of Villa Hills; and grandmother, Virginia McKellar of Rose City, Mich.

Charles Desha "Hammer" Wiglesworth, 53, of Carlisle, formerly of Harrison County, died Sunday at his home.
He was a farm manager and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include sons, Shay A. Wiglesworth and Dean C. Wiglesworth, both of Sadieville; a stepson, Ben Gann of Cynthiana; brothers, Billy Ray Wiglesworth of Carlisle and James Garnett Wiglesworth of Cynthiana; and a sister, Jean Martin Brown of Cynthiana.
