Walter Brown Sr., 54, was stone mason, church deacon
Walter Brown Sr. loved his family, his church, his stone masonry work and his terriers.
"He was very outgoing and was well-liked, " said Mr. Brown's wife, Carolina Brown.
Mr. Brown, 54, of Latonia, died of stomach cancer Aug. 20 at his home.
He was a self-employed stone mason.
"He was a good family man who enjoyed his children, " said Mrs. Brown.
Mr. Brown was a deacon at Corinthian Baptist Church in Newport.
"He trusted in the Lord, " said his wife. "He served on the brotherhood of the church and drove a van for the youth of the church."
Mr. Brown was skilled at building stone walls of residences.
"He loved his stone work and took great pride in it, " said Mrs. Brown.
Mr. Brown's hobby was raising American Stafford terrier dogs.
"He loved that breed of dog and always had them around, " said his wife.
Other survivors include a son, Walter Brown Jr. of Latonia; a daughter, Watasha Brown of Latonia; his father, Walter Brown of Jackson, Miss.; brothers, Ricky Brown of Cincinnati and James Brown of Newport; and sisters, Shirley Kennedy and Linda Smith, both of Cincinnati, and Nona Haynes of Huntsville, Ala.
Services were at noon today at Corinthian Baptist Church in Newport. Visitation began there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Dorothy Lewis Burns, 65, of Maysville, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday at Robertson County Health Care Center, Mount Olivet.
She was a former employee of Jockey International and Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a member of Worthington Chapel Methodist Church, Minerva, and Burns Chapter No. 31 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, George Burns Sr.; sons, George Burns Jr. and James Burns Sr., both of Maysville; a daughter, Kimberly Adams of Virginia; brothers, Harry Lewis Sr., Barry Lewis and Kenny Lewis, all of Maysville; sisters, Toni Schultz of Cincinnati and Fay Thomas of Chillicothe, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Worthington Chapel Methodist Church, Minerva. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Washington.
Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick, is handling arrangements.
John D. Casey Jr., 45, of Newport, died Sunday at his home.
Survivors include a cousin, David Casey Sr. of New Orleans.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio.

Natha June Ervin, 71, of Independence, died Aug. 12 at Cardinal Hill Hospital, Fort Thomas.
She was a former cook with Children's Psychiatric Hospital, Covington, and a member of Independence Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Rick Ervin of Independence; a brother, Jack Land of Independence; and two grandchildren.
Services will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Robin Long Gollar, 45, of Independence, died Tuesday at her home.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Chuck Gollar; sons, Roy Lee Long II of Pontiac, Mich., Brian Gollar and Christian Gollar, both of Covington; a daughter, Dawn Wehrman of Covington; her parents, Elmer and Gladys Hardymon of Crescent Springs; sisters, Penny Barton of Burlington, Carol Grinninger of Fort Thomas, Jill Herrington of Walton, Sherry Hardymon and Tina Hamilton, both of Crescent Springs; a brother, Greg Marksberry of Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Crescent Springs Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Johnnie Newsom, 89, of Dover, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday at his home.
He was a farmer, a former employee of Wald's in Maysville and a member of Lawrence Creek Christian Church, Moransburg. His wife, Mamie Louise Newsom, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Harold Wayne Newsom of Minerva; daughters, Regina Ann Fraley of Maysville, Diana Vice of Mount Sterling, Barbara Brown of Falmouth, Vicki Newell of Naples, Fla., and Melinda Jane Hutchison of Winchester; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lawrence Creek Christian Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Maysville.

Goldie F. Horton Setters, 77, of Burlington, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a secretary with Levi Strauss, Florence, and a member of Greenview Baptist Church, Florence. Her husband, Eugene Setters, died in 1975.
Survivors include sons, Garry Setters of Burlington and Terry Setters of Verona; a daughter, Gloria Setters of Burlington; a brother, Ivan Horton of Erlanger; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenview Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Janice Faye Snell, 56, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Survivors include daughters, Pauletta R. Stroop and Katherine L. Burris, both of Hagerstown, and Kimberly Faye Snell of Clear Spring, Md.; sons, Paul R. Burris II and Jerry C. Stroop, both of Hagerstown, and Johnny E. Stroop of Cleveland; and a brother, Robert Murphy; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Cincinnati.
