Tommy Vogt, 36, lived life to fullest

Tommy Vogt was only 36 when he died Tuesday, but his dad says he lived those years to the fullest.

"I know he was 36 when he passed, but I don't think he missed out on too much, " his father, Eddie Vogt, said Wednesday night.

Mr. Vogt, of Fort Wright, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in an auto accident on River Road in unincorporated Boone County.

He loved sports -- both playing and coaching. Mr. Vogt played baseball for one year at Elder High School on Cincinnati's west side and enjoyed golfing, softball and baseball.

He also coached baseball at Covington Catholic High School and basketball at St. Joseph Academy in Walton.

"He relates to kids of all ages, really. From 2 to 22, " his dad said.

Mr. Vogt briefly studied journalism at Northern Kentucky University and wrote freelance stories about high school sports for The Kentucky Post.

Vogt left NKU and became a salesman for B&W; Supply Co. in Florence, where his father said co-workers and local builders loved him.

"He had a wonderful personality, " his dad said. "There wasn't a person that didn't love him."

Mr. Vogt recently returned from an annual trip with friends to Chicago to watch the Chicago Cubs. His dad said he was the highlight of family vacations and golf outings with buddies in South Carolina.

Mr. Vogt also was a member of St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs.

In addition to his father, survivors include his mother, Donna Vogt of Villa Hills; and grandmother, Helen Litzler, of Villa Hills.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to Faith for Future Ministries Foundation, 2470 Lorraine Court, Crescent Springs, Ky. 41017.

William Burns, 90, of Mays Lick, died Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired farmer and a deacon with Second Baptist Church, Mays Lick. His first wife, Margaret Welch Burns, died in 1958. His second wife, Alonzel Bolden Higgins Burns, died in 1995.

Survivors include daughters, Norma Ramsey and Marilyn Lewis, both of Mays Lick, Anna Rice of Dover, Mary Lang of Cincinnati, Virginia Matney, Jane Kirk and Linda Brookins, all of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Frank Burns, George Burns Sr. and Robert Burns, all of Maysville, Larry Burns of Germantown; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, Mays Lick. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Mays Lick Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick, is handling arrangements.

Mary Eleanor Cummins, 74, of North Port, Fla., formerly of Bracken County, died Monday at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla. She was a retired bank loan officer.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Cummins; a son, Marvin Cummins Jr. of Bethel, Ohio; daughters, Kathryn Elaine Shea of Sarasota and Elizabeth Karen Fast of Meridien, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Bladeston. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses. Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta, is handling arrangements.

Garry Lynn Howard, 45, of Mount Orab, Ohio, died Tuesday at Woodside Manor, Cincinnati. He was a salesman with Jeff Wyler Auto, and a member of First Baptist Church, Mount Orab.

Survivors include sons, Jamie Howard of Georgetown, Ohio, and Gary Howard of Williamsburg, Ohio; a daughter, Heather Howard of Williamsburg; his father, Verner Lee Howard of Bethel; and brothers, Bill Howard of Carlisle, Pa., Jerry Howard of Milford, Ohio, and Rick Howard of Hamersville, Ohio.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Mount Orab. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Brooksville.

Judy Kay Marksberry, 57, of Erlanger, was found dead Tuesday in her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Independence and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include daughters, Kimberly Walls of Elsmere, Teresa Crowe of Fort Mitchell, Melissa Meyers of Florence and Shannon Giles of Sparta; sisters, Peggy Godby of Owenton, Nancy Briscoe of Pleasureville and Linda Clark of Independence; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 7 tonight at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Main Street location, Owenton. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to North Key Community Center, P.O. Box 2680, Covington, Ky. 41012.

Howard Walter Rhein, 90, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at A.C. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Emma Daisy Rollins, 78, of Newport, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired line reader with Kenner Toy Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Robert Boone Rollins, died in 1978. Sons, Ricky Rollins and James Rollins, died in 1968 and 1982, respectively.

Survivors include daughters, Daisy Linton and Sandra Combs, both of Newport, and Jeana Burrows of Covington; a son, Robbie Rollins of Newport; sisters, Jean Tomlin of Covington and Jennie Bolton of Owenton; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Dave P. Ross, 62, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was an electrician with Cincinnati Bulk Terminal. A stepdaughter, Sherri Durham Payne, preceded her in death.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Whittaker Ross; a daughter, Shannon Plymire of Mason, Ohio; stepdaughters, Terri Heiert of Fort Thomas, Jan Durham of Newport and Kim Durham of Bellevue; a stepson, Jeff Durham of Burlington; brothers, George Pete Ross of Newport and John Ross of Dayton; sisters, Patsy McIntosh of Edgewood, Carol Sturgill of Newport and Michelle Mickey Roberts of Williamstown; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery.

Edna Louise Vater, 78, of Wilder, died Tuesday at her home. She was a retired customer service representative with Clover Leaf Dairy and Trauth Dairy in Newport, and a Sunday school teacher with First Baptist Church, Newport. She was a member of the XYZ Club and the Senior Adult Action Group, and a PTA officer and health volunteer with Newport Schools. She was also a Girl Scouts leader. Her husband, Charles Vater, died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters, Mary E. Vater and Diane Hunt, both of Wilder; and sisters, Anna Marie Abbot of Highland Heights and Juanita Yutze of Newport.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 801 York St., Newport, Ky. 41071.

John H. Walker, 87, of Lakeside Park, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

He was a retired salesman with T&M; Personnel Services in Fort Wright and Cerro Copper and Brass Co., a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell and Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills, and an Army veteran of World War II.

His wife, Norma Walker, died in 1968.

Survivors include sons, Mike Walker of Crestview Hills and Tom Walker of Edgewood; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood.

Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to St. Pius X Church Building Fund, 348 Dudley Road, Edgewood, Ky. 41017. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Marjorie Wilson, 80, of Worthville, died Tuesday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Madison, Ind., VFW post.

Her husband, Alvin Lee Wilson, died in 1988.

Survivors include a brother, Walter Sutherland Jr. of Worthville, and a sister, Virginia Gullion of Warsaw.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Worthville Cemetery.
