Georgia Brown, 93, 'had a lot of spirit'
"Fat and sassy" -- that's how Georgia Brown would respond when people asked her how she was doing, but her daughter-in-law said she was neither fat nor sassy.
"It's funny that she would say that to people because she was neither, " daughter-in-law Jeannie Brown of Walton said.
In fact, Brown said her mother-in-law only weighed about 85 pounds most of her life. "But, she had a lot of power and spirit and wanted to stay on the go, " she said.
Georgia Brown, 93, of Walton, died Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence.
Mrs. Brown was a member of First Baptist Church in Walton, where she led the church women's missionary union and taught Sunday school.
"She was a good Christian woman that taught Sunday school and that was a very important part of her life, " Brown said.
Every Christmas, her mother-in-law would hand-make ornaments and give them to the Sunday school children. Just as important to her was her son, Wendell Brown III, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Brown said Mom and son had a close relationship because his father, Wendell Brown, died in 1974.
"They watched over each other and took care of each other, " she said. "They have had a close bond."
Mrs. Brown also enjoyed gardening, reading and spending winters in Florida.
She was a retired practical nurse with the office of Dr. William Waller in Walton and member of Boone County Homemakers.
A son, John Jacobs, died in 1999. A daughter, Elizabeth Vlasis, died July 13.
In addition to her son, survivors included a sister, Birdie Glacken of Covington; brothers, Les Cram of Independence and John Cram of Burlington; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Walton. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 47 S. Main St., Walton, Ky. 41094. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, is handling arrangements.
Helen Barth, 88, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired packer with Henry Hosea Packing Co., Newport. Her husband, Ralph Barth, died in 1994. A son, James Barth, died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Robert Barth of Fort Thomas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, followed by prayers. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Carmel Manor, 100 Carmel Manor Road, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Rachel Kathleen Carter, 23, of Carrollton, died Thursday at her home.
Survivors include her father, Cecil Carter of Carrollton; brothers, James Warren Mattingly, Chris Mattingly, Reuben Mattingly, Charles Joseph Carter, Jacob Carter, Jason Carter and George Rodney Carter, all of Carrollton; sisters, Angela Shields of Ghent, Elenor Carrado, Elizabeth Overstreet, Rebecca Carter and Patricia Carter, all of Carrollton; stepbrothers, Paul E. Edwards of Madison, Ind., and Cecil Carter Jr. of Dallas; and stepsisters, Sally Carter and Wanda Copeland, both of Madison, Ind.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Danny Lee Fogle, 56, of Brooksville, died Wednesday at his home. He was an operation management specialist with the U.S. Customs Service and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hamilton Fogle; a daughter, Angela Dawn McTernan of Berlin, Md.; sons, Danny Fogle Jr. of El Paso, Texas, and Morgan Fogle of Brooksville; sisters, Dorothy Fogle and Rena Barrons, both of Brooksville; brothers, Eddie Fogle of Portsmouth, N.H., and Dennis Fogle of Hastings, Neb.; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.
Paul Joseph Foltz, 82, of Fort Wright, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired cutter and shipping clerk with National Flag Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright, the church Holy Name Society and the Knights of St. John. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a sister, Loretta Shadbolt of Fort Wright, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Entombment will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Josephine F. Haynes, 84, of Florence, died Thursday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere.

Gunther M. Kraeling, 46, of Lexington, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at his home. He was an assistant manager with the Kroger Co.
Survivors include his mother, Margot Geier Kraeling of Fort Wright; a brother, Dr. Stephen Kraeling of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; and a sister, Barbara K. Rauen of Crestview Hills.

Link Robinson Jr., 72, of Florence, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 212 and a member of Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge No. 607 F&AM;, Dayton.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Drees Robinson; a daughter, Denise Estep of Union; sons, Dr. Michael Robinson of Edgewood, Stephen Robinson and Curt Robinson, both of Florence; a brother, Rufus "Hoop" Robinson of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Gladys Mae Harden of Erlanger; and 10 grandchildren.

Rita Cobb Smith, 39, of Williamstown, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Ray Smith; sons, Donald Ray Smith Jr. and Tyler Jordon Smith, both of Williamstown; a daughter, Amy Marie Smith of Williamstown; her father, Lucky Cobb of Cincinnati; her stepfather, Arnold Noe of Hamilton, Ohio; brothers, Dan Cobb of Cincinnati and David Bush of Honolulu, Hawaii; and a sister, Misty Simpson of Hamilton.

Susan T. Steioff, 56, of Latonia, died at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a legal secretary with Dinsmore & Shohl in Cincinnati and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia.
Survivors include a brother, Mark Steioff of Latonia; and sister, Lucy Baker of Crestview Hills, Jan Qualls of Taylor Mill, Amy Steioff of Villa Hills and Vicki Tyree of Independence.

Andy Whalen, 21, of Walton, died Wednesday in an automobile accident on Dixie Highway in Dry Ridge. He was a carpenter.
Survivors include daughters, Sierra Nicole Whalen and Emilee Paige Whalen, both of Walton; his parents, Timothy Whalen of Dry Ridge and Kathy Goecke of Walton; a sister, Carrie Meadows of Walton; and grandparents, Gilbert and Georgia Whalen of Dry Ridge, and Mary Goecke of Walton.
